Togo , officially the Togolese Republic (French: République togolaise), is a country in West Africa. It is bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north. The country extends south to the Gulf of Guinea, where its capital and largest city Lomé is located. Togo covers 57,000 square kilometres (22,008 square miles), making it one of the smallest countries in Africa, with a population of approximately 8 million, as well as one of the narrowest countries in the world with a width of less than 115 km (71 mi) between Ghana and its eastern neighbor Benin, which is also quite narrow, except for its northern parts.
From the 11th to the 16th century, various tribes entered the region from all directions. From the 16th century to the 18th century, the coastal region was a major trading center for Europeans to purchase slaves, earning Togo and the surrounding region the name The Slave Coast. In 1884, Germany declared a region including present-day Togo as a protectorate called Togoland. After World War I, rule over Togo was transferred to France. Togo gained its independence from France in 1960.] In 1967, Gnassingbé Eyadéma led a successful military coup d'état after which he became president of an anti-communist, single-party state. Eventually, in 1993, Eyadéma faced multiparty elections, which were marred by irregularities, and he won the presidency three times. At the time of his death, Eyadéma was the longest-serving leader in modern African history, having been president for 38 years. In 2005, his son Faure Gnassingbé was elected president. He continues to hold the office as of 2021.
Togo is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation, whose economy depends highly on agriculture, with a climate that provides good growing seasons. While the official language is French, many other languages are spoken, particularly those of the Gbe family. The largest religious group consists of those with indigenous beliefs, and there are significant Christian and Muslim minorities. Togo is a member of the United Nations, African Union, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone, Francophonie, and Economic Community of West African States.Togo has an area equal to 56,785 km2 (21,925 sq mi) and is one of the smallest countries in Africa. It borders the Bight of Benin in the south; Ghana lies to the west; Benin to the east; and to the north, Togo is bound by Burkina Faso. Togo lies mostly between latitudes 6° and 11°N, and longitudes 0° and 2°E.
The coast of Togo in the Gulf of Guinea is 56 km (35 miles) long and consists of lagoons with sandy beaches. In the north, the land is characterized by a gently rolling savanna in contrast to the center of the country, which is characterized by hills. The south of Togo is characterized by a savanna and woodland plateau which reaches a coastal plain with extensive lagoons and marshes.
The highest mountain of the country is the Mont Agou at 986 metres (3235') above sea level. The longest river is the Mono River with a length of 400 km (250 miles). It runs from north to south.
Climate

The climate is generally tropical[12] with average temperatures ranging from 23 °C (73 °F) on the coast to about 30 °C (86 °F) in the northernmost regions, with a dry climate and characteristics of a tropical savanna. To the south, there are two seasons of rain (the first between April and July and the second between September and November), even though the average rainfall is not very high.[citation needed]
Flora and fauna
Togo contains three terrestrial ecoregions: Eastern Guinean forests, Guinean forest-savanna mosaic, and West Sudanian savanna. The coast of Togo is characterized by marshes and mangroves. High human population growth is leading to rapid deforestation, endangering many species. The country had a 2019 Forest Landscape Integrity Index mean score of 5.88/10, ranking it 92nd globally out of 172 countries.
At least five parks and reserves have been established: Abdoulaye Faunal Reserve, Fazao Malfakassa National Park, Fosse aux Lions National Park, Koutammakou, and Kéran National Park. Quick trip to Aneho, Togo whilst enroute to Ouidah, Benin.
Aného, previously known as Anecho is a town in southeastern Togo, lying on the Gulf of Guinea near the border of Benin. Founded in the late 17th century by Ane people fleeing from Denkyira attacks in Elmina (now in Ghana), Aného developed as a slave port and commercial center. It was the capital of German Togoland from 1885 to 1887 and of the French occupation from 1914 to 1920. Aného remains an important intellectual center for Togo, though it has not grown as rapidly as Togo’s other major cities.
It is situated 45 km east of the capital Lomé, between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Togo in Maritime Region. Historically it was known as Petit Popo and it had a Portuguese slave market. The nearby town of Zebe became the second capital of German Togoland in 1887.[1] It gradually declined in importance after the capital was transferred to Lomé in 1897, a decline exacerbated by coastal erosion.
The town's main industries are farming and fishing, while it is still a center for Voodoo

Lome beach is situated in Togo, a country in West Africa. Lome is the capital and largest city in Togo, with an estimated population of 900.000. Lome is one of the best beaches in Togo. It is now considered to be one of the most underrated cities to visit. But before, it was famously known as the Paris of West – Africa. Lome, a togo beach has its charm with its broad boulevards and the beach is nice palm fringed, but there are not many tourists left due to the political situation. If you follow the road you can get all the way to the Benin-border. Lome beach is beautiful as it spreads across the landscape quite widely. Like mentioned above, it has been reduced to be one of the most underrated places on the face of this planet. Many activities such as football are played by the locals.- World exotic beaches

In today’s video, we shall be counting down the top 10 African countries with the best quality roads. One of the essential factors for economic growth is domestic and international transportation, thus, road infrastructure needs to be maintained and updated regularly. when it comes to ranking countries by their road networks, African countries lag way behind. This is surprising considering the fact that a chunk of the budgetary allocations in many African countries are centered on road development, yet very little can be shown for it. The Global Competitive Report Index is charged with the ranking of roads worldwide to set aside the best from the worst. In ranking the countries, the Global Competitive Report index tracks the performance of approximately 140 countries on 12 pillars of competitiveness, including the quality of road infrastructure development, maintenance and urban-rural balance. In the recent ranking by the Global Competitive Report Index, United Arab, Singapore, and Switzerland, emerged with the best road in the world with scores of 6.2 each, while Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Haiti, emerged with the worst roads with score of 2.1.

According to the just released World Economic Forum of Road Quality Index for Africa, these are the top 10 African countries with the best quality roads.
10. Senegal - Score 4.0.
Officially the Republic of Senegal, is a country in West Africa. Senegal covers a land area of almost 197,000kilo meter square and has an estimated population of about 16.5 million people. The system of roads in Senegal is extensive by West African standards, with paved roads reaching each corner of the country and all major towns
9. Cape Verde - Score 4.1. The road network of Cape Verde is managed by the national government (Instituto de Estradas) and by the municipalities. The total length of the road network is 1,650 km, of which 1,113 km national roads and 537 km municipal roads. Of the national roads, 36% is asphalted. Roadways networks include 10,000 km including unpaved tracks accessible only to four-wheel drive vehicle.
8. Botswana, Score 4.1.
Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa, formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, gained independence on 30th September 1966. It is currently Africa's oldest continuous democracy, with a population of about 2.5 million people and a surface area of 581,730 kilo meter square. Botswana has good quality roads rubbing shoulders with countries in Europe on road quality.

Aflao is a town in Ketu South District in the Volta Region on Ghana's border with Togo. Aflao is the twenty-eighth most populous settlement in Ghana, in terms of population, with a population of 96,550 people.
In the 18th century, Aflao served as one of the major markets for the slave trade. Aflao is a big Land shared by the border of Ghana and Togo. So we have Aflao of Ghana and Aflao of Togo. The culture of this land is base on their clothes called Kente or kete. Their local music is Agbadja and Brekete. Ghana authorities plan to create a unique common post at Aflao.
Aflao is located on the eastern coast of Ghana and is the major border town with neighbouring Togo.
This is a very beautiful town with nice settlement and people. A great town with people coming from all our neighboring towns Togo Benin and nigeria
The Diamond Cement Ghana Limited factory is located at Aflao.
In early 2014, a 2.5 km rail siding was completed to connect the cement works to the port of Lomé. This siding crosses the border from Togo to Ghana and is of the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge.
There are Public Transports from Aflao to major cities such as Accra ; Kumasi; Techiman; Mim, Ahafo ; Sunyani; Takoradi; Tema; Ho; Wa; Bolgatanga; Elubo.
