The TRUTH about PLITVICE LAKES NATIONAL PARK
ARE PLITVICE LAKES WORTH IT?
After exploring Krka National Park: the day before, we decided not to drive back to our Airbnb in Dubrovnik but to instead carry on driving North and book a last minute stay in Kapela Korenička so that we could explore Plitvice National Park.
We woke up early so we could arrive as soon as the park opened but we hadn’t planned on the temperature being so much cooler than Dubrovnik so we only had our summer clothes with us which was super chilly early at the start.
We spent the morning exploring the Upper lakes of Plitvice National Park before crossing the Kozjak Lake by boat to explore the lower lakes section. Both are incredibly beautiful but we definitely preferred the lower section as there’s more of a rugged terrain with azure waters and waterfalls everywhere you look, this area is smaller though so if you visit during high season the lower lakes might be quite crowded, we visited in autumn so the crowds weren’t too bad.
We highly recommend adding this place to your itinerary if you’re visiting Croatia, it’s a great day out in nature (or half day if you want to just do one section) but we did find it to be almost twice as busy as Krka National Park was when we visited the day before.
We managed to make the five hour drive back to Dubrovnik that afternoon/evening, arriving just in time to head out into Dubrovnik old town for drinks - long day but so much fun!

Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia - Yes, I'm going to call this the most beautiful national park in Europe. The Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is one of the most incredible natural landscapes I have ever witnessed.
Plitvice Lakes National Park (Plitvička Jezera) is 300 square kilometers of deep green lush forest, and features 16 incredible lakes, all inter-connected by a seemingly endless series of majestic waterfalls.
The Croatian National Park a well-deserved UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Croatia.
If you're looking for the best things to do in Croatia, I highly recommend coming to Plitvice National Park.
Just be careful of what time of year you come to this National Park, because it does get very crowded in the summer months. I would actually love to come back to Plitvice in the fall!

Plitvice Lakes National Park (Croatian: Nacionalni park Plitvička jezera, colloquial Plitvice, pronounced [plîtʋitse]) is one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.
The national park was founded in 1949 and is situated in the mountainous karst area of central Croatia, at the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The important north-south road connection, which passes through the national park area, connects the Croatian inland with the Adriatic coastal region.
The protected area extends over 296.85 square kilometres (73,350 acres). About 90% of this area is part of Lika-Senj County, while the remaining 10% is part of Karlovac County.
Each year, more than 1 million visitors are recorded. Entrance is subject to variable charges

I used a public bus from Zagreb to Plitvice Lake and stayed at a hotel recommended by Rick Steves guidebook. Plitvice Lake is one of Europe’s most spectacular natural wonders.

Croatia is famous for it's coast but it should also be famous for its National Parks. Croatian national parks have tons of waterfalls (at least the two main ones) and they are gorgeous but of the two, Plitvice National Park in Croatia is much more dramatic and visited. We were there in December and it was almost empty with cool and foggy weather. The lakes were so colorful and the beech forest was dramatic are easy to get to from both Split and Zagreb. We even made friends with a kitty.

Plitvice Lakes National Park | Our FAVORITE stop in Croatia
After the Istrian Peninsula we made our way to Plitvice Lakes National Park! This is Croatia’s first National Park and probably the most visited site in the whole country!
Plitvice Lakes is made up of 16 interconnected lakes which are split between the Upper and Lower Lakes. The lakes are absolutely beautiful, surrounded by lush green forest and filled with crystal-clear water. They tumble into each other, one after the other, in a series of over 90 stunning waterfalls.
We spent the day exploring the winding wooden boardwalks that take you through the park as well as several additional ridge trails where you can take in views from above!
With the turquoise lakes, limestone cliffs, and endless waterfalls, it really was like something out of a fairytale book! Plitvice Lakes is a place we have wanted to visit for quite some time and it still managed to exceed all of our expectations!

We get an early start to our day and we’re on the road by 6:30am. After a very long drive from Rovinj, we finally make it to Plitvice Lakes National Park. We spend the morning exploring the Lower Lakes, and the afternoon exploring the Upper Lakes. It’s a great way to spend a day in Croatia!
We end our day in Split with an incredible dinner at Kitchen 5, which we highly recommend!

A Day in KRKA NATIONAL PARK ( Krka Waterfalls ) Croatia
A Day in Krka National Park - the beautiful Krka waterfalls, Croatia in 4K
Krka National Park is one of Croatia's best places to visit. It lies about 10km inland from Sibenik in Dalmatia region. Named after the Krka River, the Park covers an area of just over 109 square km. The park has a lush green vegetation, a wide variety of flora and fauna and amazing waterfalls with clear turquoise waters. There is a tourist path that leads visitors easily throughout the park.
The top attraction of the Krka National Park is its magnificent waterfalls, including the famous Skradinski Buk , the largest and most popular waterfall. Other highlights include the small island of Visovac and Roski Slap waterfall.
Krka NP is easily reachable from almost anywhere by public transport. You can buy your transport and entry ticket online or at the ticket office in Skradin where most buses are arriving.
From there you also buy the boat ticket for a 30 min boat ride to get to the park.

My Crazy Day at Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia
Plitvice Lakes National Park is an amazing and awe-inspiring place. I traveled through the park yesterday and showed you the pictures I took and also the mindset I had while I was taking the pictures. Then I describe how everything went really wrong and how I almost could have ended up in a serious situation.
