#AfricaAsOne Part 9: Sudan the land of the Mighty Black Pharaohs.

This week the ball is in Sudan. A land where ancient history and modern life collide. We visit a 200 year old well, that is still used by the local people. We witness an ancient ceremony performed by Dervish Dancers, religious elders that have inhabited this region for generations. Finally we learn about the reign of the Black Pharaohs, and end this leg of the trip with a visit to the mighty Nile River.

Forbidden Tunnel inside the Bent Pyramid of Dahshur

When I was alone inside the Bent Pyramid which is located in Dahshur south of Giza and the Great Pyramid, I noticed a door that was locked. It had a hole in the fence so I decided to climb through to see what is inside.
I found myself in a long and steep passage and there was a pit which was covered with wooden planks. Also there was a very strong wind coming from this tunnel.
On the right side there was a white limestone block that was sticking out of the floor which made it look very special.
I continued to walk inside the tunnel and I switched off my flash light to see if there was any light coming from the end of the passage. It was pitch black dark.

It's one of the most unbelievable features of mankind that I've ever seen anywhere on this planet.

If you enjoyed this story, please share it with your friends! South Sudan can benefit from any positive attention as it's gone through rough times like civil war and political unrest.

What’s that under the Great Pyramid?

????Join me May 17-28, 2023 for the Megalithic Marvels of Egypt Tour

On the Megalithic Marvels of Egypt tour we were privileged to receive a 2 hour long after-hours visit inside the Great Pyramid of Giza. Upon entering the descending passage, our first big stop was to visit the subterranean chamber - the basement of the Great Pyramid! I was taken back by how long and steep this passage leading down underneath the pyramid was (approx 300+ ft). While the higher passageways & chambers were lined and finished with precision megalithic blocks, the passage leading down was unfinished in that it was cut straight from the bedrock. Once we reached the bottom, the passageway leveled out & we had to literally crawl on our hands and knees through thick pyramid dust the final section (approx 10 yards) before entering the subterranean chamber. This chamber seemed essentially like a big square with 3 levels - the upper level with smallish cutouts or storage type areas, the main level which featured this circular fence, which in turn, sealed us off from the lower level which is a massive pit with a squared out bottom that featured what appeared to be a nubbed circle popping up in the center of it. What do you think the purpose of this pit was? I will share my theories in more videos coming soon… on the far side of the main level was another tight passageway that led to another smallish room.

Mini-docu Nubia - Land of the Black Pharaohs in Drents Museum

The archaeological exhibition 'Nubia – Land of the Black Pharaohs' provides a new look at Nubia’s ancient history. Whereas Nubia was long portrayed primarily as a colony of Egypt, the Drents Museum now presents it as an African superpower with a rich culture. A selection of more than three hundred objects from the Nubian collection of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston expresses this culture and unveils the mystery of ancient Nubia. Visitors of the exhibition will find themselves in a Nubian pyramid landscape. The exhibits have rarely been displayed in Europe before. Nubia is on display from 5 December 2018 until 5 May 2019 in the Drents Museum.

Sudan - Pyramids of Meroe (More pyramids in Sudan than you can count)

What can I say about Sudan? Well it's beautiful, and so were the people we met in Sudan.

The main tourist attraction if you can call it that (we didn't meet any other tourists) were the Nubian pyramids of Meroe. But before we get on to those and other historical sites we had to visit Khartoum (the capital city of Sudan) to rest and to get our permits for the various locations.

We camped out at the university campus in Khartoum and were honoured to meet and share breakfast with the football team, we were invited into homes for meals, shown where the Blue Nile and White Nile met, offered help around every corner, it truly was a pleasure.

The completely unique experience of being the only people to be exploring the pyramids of Meroe and the archaeological digs at various temple locations is one we will never forget. Meroe and Sudan is one of the places that I would have loved to go back to and visit again one day, hopefully it will be safe to do so again one day.

Land Rover Africa Overland
--------------------------------------------
Twenty years ago my wife and I packed up our life in the UK and set off to drive overland in our Land Rover Defender with the aim of driving all the way to the Cape Town in South Africa, a journey which will take us from coast to coast along the length and breadth of Africa.

Because this journey was twenty years ago, there were no smartphones, no google maps, and no digital cameras. The photos taken on the journey were on transparencies, designed to be projected. I have taken photographs of some of those slides for the purpose of showing in this video.

Pyramids Around The World and The Bosnian Controversy - Semir Sam Osmanagich FULL LECTURE

Subscribe to our channel at Click here to buy full DVD and MP4/MP3 downloads of the 2011 conference. Semir explores the world of pyramid structures from every corner of the planet, then delves in to one of the big archaeological controversies of our era. In 2005, Semir claimed to have discovered some pyramids in Europe near the town of Visoko, Bosnia-Herzegovina. In 2008, Dr. Osmanagich hosted a archaeological conference in Sarajavo which fueled controversy about his discovery dividing the archaeological community. Excavation on the vast complex has been ongoing since 2006. To date the excavation has yielded 5 potential pyramids of various sizes as well as a vast labyrinth of underground tunnels. He holds a PhD in Mayan studies. At Megalithomania 2011 he updated his research about Bosnia looking at archaeoastronomy, earth energies, dating methods and numerous other disciplines that has caused more controversy than any other site on the planet. It has still not been concluded if these are real pyramids.

Highlights of Sudan نبذة عن السودان

#sudan - Is a country located in northeastern #Africa. The name Sudan derives from the #Arabic expression bilād al-sūdān (“land of the #blacks”), by which #medieval Arab geographers referred to the settled African countries that began at the southern edge of the #Sahara.
For more than a century, Sudan—first as a colonial holding, then as an independent country—included its neighbour South Sudan, home to many sub-Saharan African #ethnic groups. Prior to the secession of the south in 2011, Sudan was the largest African country, with an area that represented more than 8 percent of the African continent and almost 2 percent of the #world’s total land area, Sudan’s population still exhibited a diverse profile. The Sudanese #people boast several major ethnic #groups and #hundreds of subgroups, and they speak numerous #languages and #dialects.
Since #ancient times the Sudan region has been an arena for interaction between the #cultural #traditions of Africa and those of the #Mediterranean world. #Islam and the Arabic language achieved ascendancy in many northern parts of the region, while older African languages and cultures predominated in the south.
