Part 1: The WHY - Camino De Santiago 2023 | Vlogumentary | Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Pamplona

Each year thousands of pilgrims start the ancient route from the beautiful small French village of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and walk ~790km to reach the end in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The Camino de Santiago has been a popular pilgrimage since the 8th century. It's often said that you don't find the route but instead you answer the call of the Camino. People walk the Camino for different reasons - some for religious reasons, others try to find their purpose in life, for the physical challenge, the wine, to discover the local culture or recover from a serious personal event.

This first episode follows the start of the journey for me and my bae. We are a couple who left our well-paid IT jobs and the comfort of the big city to find our own meaning in life... and maybe MORE. As we meet with other pilgrims who walk the Camino way, we will try to create a series of portraits and find their WHY.

Follow the yellow arrows with us!

CAMINO DE SANTIAGO, ETAPA 1 | SARRIA-PORTOMARIN

Chavos!

????Why walk 500 miles (800km) on the Camino de Santiago?

I began a 33-day foot journey in September 2019 across Spain to answer that question. What began as a curious case for adventure ended with a newfound appreciation for life through moments of deep reflection and connection. What started out as a solo trip ended with a new Camino family and friends from around the world.

Starting in St. Jean Pied de Port and ending in Santiago de Compostela, the Camino Frances (French Way) is a journey that takes you over the Pyrenees through the rustic Spanish countryside and into the cities while consuming a lifetime's quantity of coffee, Spanish bread, and red wine. But more than anything...it is a journey of personal discovery, human connection, and community.

Here is that journey of adventure, community, and connection. Enjoy and buen camino.
David

Plan your Camino de Santiago walk with confidence...

Join us on our travels! About this episode:

If you have watched our Intro video ( you will know that 2021 turned our world upside down! We decided that as a family we would not wait any longer to start exploring the world and the Camino Frances ( was one of these bucket list items that we just had to do.

Getting ready for this walk (500 miles of it we hasten to add) was nerve racking, we are not massive hikers and we had not done anything like this before, however, after we reached Santiago de Compostela ( after walking for approximately 40 days we felt elated...we now know why other pilgrims do it and return time and time again.

We pretty much completed a daily vlog of our journey with two of our children (Henry, 15 and Megan, 12) and shared it with the YouTube community and we thought it was time to collate those videos and put the best bits into one vlog. We really hope that you enjoy watching this 6 week journey of ours and if you are thinking of doing it with your family then please feel free to comment below with your questions, we will answer each one of them truthfully ????.

Buen Camino and happy travels! ????

The Entire Camino In 10 Minutes

I couldn't record a new video this week due to a family emergency, but we still wanted to try something different. Is this format something you would be interested in seeing more in the future? I know most subscribers aren't interested in the Camino, but it's kind of a cool challenge trying to tell such a long story in only 10 minutes without a bunch of boring exposition. I'll definitely keep making series and long movies for my future hikes, too, but I like trying new things. I am interested in hearing your thoughts!

The ULTIMATE Travel Guide: Santiago de Compostela

Santiago De Compostela Travel Guide, Santiago De Compostela Tour, Santiago De Compostela Travel

Every year for centuries, thousands of pilgrims have traveled the Saint James' Way, arriving at Galicia's capital and entering the famed Cathedral. The relics of James the Apostle, found in the ninth century, are believed by tradition to be interred here. However, Santiago de Compostela is a very vibrant city with a variety of other things to do for tourists, pilgrims included: countless eateries and bars where you can sample delectable Galician seafood, an old town centre that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provocative contemporary art, etc. This city, which blends history with a more contemporary side, offers a lot to do.

Start of the Camino De Santiago! | 4K 2023 Camino De Santiago Vlog 1 (Camino Frances)

Hello all!

The first days of our 800km (500 mile) journey along the Camino Frances on our way to Santiago de Compostela. This is what we have been waiting to do now for the better part of a year. I walked the French Way (still the Camino De Santiago) almost two years ago and I probably talked about it way too much while we were dating, so Grace and I decided to walk it for the beginning of our honeymoon!

We really hope you enjoy it. Please let us know in the comments how we can make our vlogging better. This was a pleasure to film and even more so to experience.

Buen Camino, pilgrims!
