Exploring Nova Scotia - CAT Ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth

Alrighty fellow travelers, it's time to go international for a couple days! Come join me aboard the CAT Ferry Service, that runs from Bar Harbor, Maine to the port town of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in Canada. It's a 3-and-a-half-hour journey across the Atlantic to the entrance of the Bay of Fundy and Yarmouth from Bar Harbor.

The CAT Ferry began in 1998 and was a staple of aquatic travel between the two towns for a decade. Service stopped in 2009 and was not reintroduced to Bar Harbor until this year of 2022. A direct line into Canada this daily ferry offers the quickest and most efficient way of getting into Canada from Central Maine.

BEST IN TRAVEL 2023: NOVA SCOTIA
Taking a road trip around Nova Scotia is a journey you will never forget. Nova Scotia may be one of Canada's smallest provinces, but it's big on charm. Local surfer and entrepreneur Dean Petty shows us why he's obsessed with his island province. In between panoramic motorcycle rides to surprisingly exhilarating mudslides, Dean takes us to the best places to eat and to hang so you can see why this place is one of the BEST places to journey this year. A Scenic Road Trip Guide to Maine’s Coast

Looking for an adventure that includes epic coastal views, amazing food, whale watching, camping, and amusement parks? We’ve got you covered. Coastal Maine has all these things and more. This road trip guide takes you to five must-visit destinations along Maine’s scenic coastline with things to do and places to eat and stay on your way.

Here are five Maine destinations to add to your next road trip: ????

1. Kennebunkport. This cute coastal town is filled with things to do, including whale watching, an electric railway museum, and arguably some of the best lobster rolls. Plus you can glamp or camp at Sandy Pines Campground.

2. Old Orchard Beach. With a waterfront amusement park and the famed Old Orchard Beach Pier, this stop offers coastal views and even has a waterfront RV campground with private decks where you can soak up the scenery.

3. Portland. Known for the most photographed lighthouse in the U.S., Portland is the largest city in Maine offering a fascinating history. Take a walking history tour, catch fresh lobster with Lucky Catch Cruises, and stop at Holy Donut for a sweet treat to end your day.

4. Damariscotta. Referred to as the “Napa Valley of Oysters,” learn all about the oyster industry in this coastal town while sipping wines paired with oysters. There are amazing eateries and an RV campground with beautiful lakefront sites.

5. Bar Harbor. The gateway town to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor offers plenty of dining and shopping options. Walk out on the ocean floor at low tide in the harbor and be sure to spend time on the many hiking trails in Acadia National.

Nova Scotia Road Trip - 10 Days from Halifax to Cape Breton and Back

There's no vacation like a @NovaScotiaTourism vacation, and for 10 days my family and I drove from Halifax to Cape Breton, and back again, exploring some of the best the province has to offer. It was the best road trip I've ever taken.

Watch our road trip from Halifax, to Peggy's Cove, and on to Inverness, Baddeck, Chéticamp, Ingonish, Sydney, Louisbourg, and back to Halifax.

A tremendous thank-you to our partners for the trip: Tourism Nova Scotia, @DiscoverHalifax, @CBTourism, @parkscanada, The Halliburton Hotel, Keltic Lodge, Inverary Resort, the Glenora Distillery, and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.

First Impressions of VAN LIFE in Canada? Two Brits in Nova Scotia! (Peggy’s Cove & Lunenburg)

Well, this is it! Our road trip across the Americas starts here. This past summer has been a difficult one, and we're both feeling ready for a new adventure and a fresh start. We shipped Sophia to Halifax, picked her up and soon began getting reacquainted with our tiny home on wheels after 4 weeks apart. This is the first time either of us has been to Canada and we can't wait to get to know this country more. We're kicking off the road trip in Nova Scotia, one of the beautiful Maritime Provinces, with some overly friendly locals....

We're Chesca and Ben, and with our two pups River & Scout (???? ???? ) we live and travel full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. We spent the past 2 years road tripping as much of Europe as we could, from the wild coasts of Portugal to the Syrian border in Turkey, tackling lockdowns and a van re-build along the way. But now, we're feeling like a new challenge. In the summer of 2022, we'll be shipping our van from the UK to Canada, on a mission to drive her all the way to Mexico baby! ???????? ????

Family RVing in Canada // Ferry to NOVA SCOTIA // You Be You with Zack Saint

This week we had the opportunity to take our motorhome on the Northumberland Ferry Line across the Northumberland Strait from PEI to Nova Scotia! We didn't even know you could take your RV on a ferry. What an adventure! They packed us in like sardines with several other heavy buses and semi trucks and we floated across to the other side in less than an hour and a half, which saved us MANY hours of driving. That was definitely a first for us in our rv life!

Once across, we quickly made our way to Truro where we met up with a fellow YouTuber, Zack Saint, who talked video games with our boys and shared with us the vision for his channel with us, which is to encourage others to be themselves and be passionate about what they love no matter what people may think or say! Zack is a great guy and we want to encourage everyone to go check out his channel here on YouTube, especially if you love games and other nerdery :) Thanks for hanging out with us and showing us around your beautiful hometown, Zack!!!

Zack's Channel:

Zack's Vlog (his perspective on our day together):

Later in the week, while Trent was flying to Louisiana, Siobhan took the boys to the oldest drive-in diner in Canada, The Chickenburger! Started in 1940, they were putting chicken on a bun before Chick-fil-a was even thought of ;) We love us some Chick-fil-a, but The Chickenburger was such a unique, fun experience!

After The Chickenburger we got to use our family ASTC reciprocal museum membership to visit the Discovery Centre in Halifax. What a blast! We truly love being able to visit children's museums all over the country (and outside too) with our whole family...many of them completely free!!!! It's perfect for family travel!

RVing with Cats. Bar Harbor Campground, Maine

I created this video with the YouTube Video Editor (

The Cat makes noise departing Portland

We are in Portland, where we see the Bay of Fundy Lines vessel Alakai, the catamaran that goes to Nova Scotia, as she blows her whistles while departing the port. The run to Nova Scotia takes about 6 or 7 hours if I am not mistaken. Afterwards, we see the Andrew McAllister and the Rowan M. McAllister as they assist us into our berth. Enjoy the view of the vessels. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The video was taken on June 17th, 2017.
