5 Months in 5 Minutes | BACKPACKING CENTRAL AMERICA

Whilst a little known covid-19 was just beginning to be a problem in China in October 2019, I set off backpacking for an epic 22 week journey through El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua & Costa Rica.

Regarding safety I would say 99.9% I felt safe. I hitchhiked through most of Belize and Honduras. Only places I felt slight unease were the big cities in Honduras. That's it!

Budget: $5000.
Including: Envision festival, AOW Scuba dive course + fun dives, 7day Ayahuasca retreat, paragliding, kite surfing, food, accommodation etc.

A fun time indeed. A time before lockdown.

COMUNA 13 - World's MOST DANGEROUS Hood? (Medellin, Colombia) - Gringo's Perspective ????????

Comuna 13 in Medellin, Colombia (San Javier) was considered to be one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the world throughout the 1980s and 1990s. It was run by violent drug trafficking organizations, who used the poor, sprawling hillside barrio as a transit route in and out of the city, and served as a stronghold for guerrillas, gangs, and paramilitaries.

It now has become one of Medellin’s top tourist destinations and many say it should be illegal to visit the city without experiencing Comuna 13. It’s truly amazing to see a community come together at the intersection of art, music, food, dance etc. and transcend what was once the epicenter of drug trafficking in Colombia. Shout out to the Comuna 13 local Johan we met in the street outside the metro for showing us around! Hit him up in advance if you want to do the same - here is his Instagram: @juan.giraldovanegas

Comuna 13 is truly an inspiration to other favelas, comunas, projects etc. around the world. Here are the 10 reasons why you should visit Comuna 13:

1. Easy Metro From Medellin Center
2. Street Art
3. Dance
4. Music
5. Painting
6. Sports
7. Fashion & Merch
8. Hillside Views
9. Affordable & Reliable Public Bus Transport
10. Option To Take Uber As Well

And the number 11th bonus is they serve local food, drinks and even craft beers!

In 2008, Medellin invested in a robust cable car and escalator network that connected residents to the rest of the city saving them massive amounts of time on their commutes and opening up new job opportunities with convenient transportation. Before we started our tour we hopped on the cable car network which took us over Comuna 13 and back. I would recommend you do the same.

You might be wondering is Comuna 13 safe to visit? The short answer is yes in the daytime! I felt a lot safer here than in the city center. I was told the reason is because if a tourist gets robbed not only will the police go after them but also the locals and you don’t want to mess with that combo! As for anywhere in South America, you should always be careful as anything can happen to anyone at anytime including in Comuna 13.

There is a Desert in Colombia And It's One of The Most Unique Places I've Ever Been!

Hola, I’m Katja and I’ve been backpacking around Colombia this winter. My second stop was Villaveija village from where I set out to explore the Tatacoa desert.

In this video I take you on a walk through the breathtaking landscape of the Tatacoa desert and show you what there is to see and experience.

I really loved the unique scenery as well as the nearby village and the local people!

As this lovely place is a bit of the common gringo trail, take a look and see if it’s worth a visit!
