A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve

A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.

As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.

The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.

How Safe Is South Sudan for Travel?

Full safety review:

South Sudan is an African country that has only recently gained its status as an independent country.

South Sudan is a breakaway region of Sudan, and it shares its borders with Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic.

This country has been owned by many countries throughout its history, like the Egyptians, Ottomans, British and Sudanese.

After many decades of ethnoreligious conflict with Sudan, South Sudan legally gained independence on 9 July 2011.

Even though it is an extremely dangerous country and tourists are discouraged from visiting, Safaris to Boma National Park and Nimule National Park are a sight to see.

Overall South Sudan is not safe at all and many governments are advising their citizens against traveling here because of the current conflicts that left a mark on South Sudan. This country is dangerous and if you're currently in South Sudan, make plans to leave as soon as the opportunity presents itself.

Overview

Yirol Church
Yirol is a small but growing town in the middle of South Sudan. It is surrounded by water bodies (a river and a lake) which offer water for human and livestock use and consumption. The fish from the river and lake are a source of badly needed protein for the local population.

Yirol is also the seat of an Anglican bishopric.

Population
As of July 2011, it estimated that the population of Yirol, South Sudan is approximately 11,650.[3]

Economy
The three pillars of the economy in Yirol are (a) cattle ranching (b) fishing and (c) subsistence agriculture. Cattle ranching requires frequent movement of animals in search of green pastures, in concert with the rain patterns in the area. Fishing takes place on nearby Lake Yirol, Lake Nyiboor,Lake Anyii and River Payii.

Transport
Three roads lead out of town:

The road west leads to the town of Rumbek (est.pop: 2011 = 32,100), the capital of western State.
The road north eventually leads to the town of Bentiu (est.pop: 2011 = 7,700), the capital of Unity State
The road south eventually leads to the city of Juba (est.pop: 2008 = 250,000), the capital of South Sudan and the largest city in the country.

01 Entebbe to Kidepo

600 kilometers from Entebbe to Kidepo Savvanna Lodge, perched right up in the north east of Uganda, very close to the South Sudan border. The road to Gulu, ( half way ) is excellent whilst the last few hundred kilometers is rough and very dusty. Temperatures were very hot as Uganda is right under the equator.

We experience numerous villages on the way.

Episode 4 The Lost Generation: Southern Sudan
From the South of Sudan Tim and Will fly via a 1940s Buffalo aircraft, that nearly crashes, to the destroyed lands of the Dinka tribe. Story after story tells of the Islamic Jihadist campaign of rape and death that the Dinkas have suffered for two decades. Famine, diseases and war give little hope for a future, but with a strong message of the coming kingdom of Jesus many dedicate their lives to Christ and hope is found in those who were once hopeless.
