Capital of Somalia

Mogadishu, locally known as Xamar or Hamar, is the capital and most populous city of Somalia. Located in the coastal Banadir region on the Somali Sea, the city has served as an important port for millennia.

Mogadishu is situated on the Somali Sea coast of the Horn of Africa, in the Banaadir administrative region (gobol) in southeastern Somalia. The region itself is coextensive with the city and is much smaller than the historical province of Benadir.

My First Day in SOMALIA as a Tourist! (Extreme Travel) ????????

Is Somalia dangerous for tourists? What about white tourists? Watch and find out.

Today is my first day in Mogadishu, Somalia and I’m enjoying the Somali culture. I’m putting together a series of 5-10 videos to show you the REAL Somalia from my eyes, and not some drive-by tinted window footage like I’ve seen on YouTube. My feet are on the ground and I intend to interact with the locals in Mogadishu.

Is it safe for tourist to visit Mogadishu Somalia in 2023? I’m not entirely sure yet, but I can tell you that my first day was smooth and my guide and guards kept me safe.

I didn’t encounter any dangers and only got the middle finger twice. All around it was a great day for adventure travel. Keep in mind, if you are a non-black tourist then you will require official military guard every time you step outside of your hotel.

If you've enjoyed this video I have many more. Subscribe to my channel and visit me over at and say hello.

Thank you for watching!

Somalia, Mogadishu in 3 days

Mogadishu is the capital and largest city of Somalia, a country located on the eastern coast of Africa. It is situated on the Indian Ocean and serves as the administrative, economic, and cultural hub of Somalia.

Mogadishu has a long and rich history, dating back to ancient times. It was an important trading center and port city along the East African coast, known for its strategic location and vibrant commercial activities.

In recent decades, Mogadishu has faced significant challenges, including political instability and violence due to conflicts and the presence of extremist groups. However, efforts have been made to restore stability and improve the city's infrastructure and governance.

Mogadishu is home to notable landmarks, including the historic district of the old city, the Mogadishu Cathedral, and the Lido Beach, which is a popular recreational spot. Not to forget the amazing Fish Market.

I had a great time, good food with lovely people!

Berbera, Somali port town, Horn of Africa, military base,

I know some rather annoying crows in the Somali port town of Berbera. Every morning, as I eat my breakfast by the beach, they swoop down and steal my bread, my jam, even my butter.
Then they fly back up to their perches on a tall metal fence. They look like sentries, their black feathers gleaming, beaks curved and sharp.
The Russians brought those birds, an elderly Somali tells me. He shows me the giant site of the old Soviet military base, the still-functioning runway they built during the Cold War to counter US influence in the Horn of Africa.
At more than 4km (2.5 miles) in length, it's one of the longest on the continent.
Fast-forward nearly half a century and, once again, Berbera is full of chatter about military bases.
That is because a deal has just been struck for the United Arab Emirates to build a facility there. There is talk of MPs being bribed handsomely to accept it.
Some Somalis feel this is part of yet another effort to colonise their country. They have even started a social media campaign - #UAEHandsOffSomalia.
The Emirates already have a base in Eritrea, just up the coast, which is used to conduct war against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, a short way across the sea.Travel in the other direction and you hit a huge Turkish base stretching along the beach south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Engineers working on its final touches tell me it's going to be Turkey's largest overseas military training camp.
The base is just a small part of Turkey's massive involvement in the country, which started in 2011 during the first famine of the 21st Century. Somalia is an eccentric choice for a gateway into Africa but, like other foreign powers, Turkey wants influence, prestige and economic gain.
It sometimes feels like Mogadishu is a Turkish colony. As soon as you land at the airport, red and white Turkish flags seem to outnumber the sky blue Somali ones.
Many of the staff at the glistening new Turkish-built terminal come from Turkey. They tell me they do not like living in Somalia - it is too hot and there are too many explosions.
