Exploring the colourful streets of Puerto Barrios, Guatemala 2019. Puerto Barrios is a city located within the Gulf of Honduras. The bay in which the harbour is located is called Bahia de Amatique. It is Guatemala's main Caribbean Sea port, together with its more modern twin port town just to the southwest, Santo Tomás de Castilla. Among the many nearby tourist attractions are the Mayan ruins of Quirigua and Castle of San Felipe de Lara. Shots were taken with GoPro Hero 7 Black 1080p HD.

Many will suggest that you walk into the actual city from the pier. While this is possible (and we did it) I would not recommend doing this alone. You are VERY obviously a tourist while visiting this town. I never felt unsafe, but most the shop owners were selling actual goods that locals would purchase and did not speak English. We had a Spanish speaker with us, so it was a different experience for us.
This is the one stop on the cruise we did that I would highly recommend paying for a tour. Otherwise there really is only one place to shop (a giant warehouse type structure with a lot of vendors) and that's it. I bought some great stuff here!
We booked the 1.5 hour open-air trolley tour for $25 a person. It was interesting...because this is not a picturesque coastal town, be prepared for jungle views (basically the color green) and city streets. The coolest thing we saw was this incredibly colorful above ground cemetery.

Santo Tomás de Castilla, also known as Matías de Gálvez is a port city in the Izabal Department, Guatemala. It is located at around 15°41′20″N 88°36′45″W. Coordinates: 15°41′20″N 88°36′45″W. It lies at Amatique Bay off the Gulf of Honduras and is administratively a part of Puerto Barrios.

Visiting Guatemala via cruise ship and docking at the Santo Tomas de Castilla. We cruised the bay and hugged the coastline to Livingston at the mouth of the Rio Dulce. After visiting the town of Livingston we continued boating up the Rio Dulce along the cliffs of the grand canyon to a Mayan village before heading back out to the bay and back to the port. It was quite the adventure and one not to forget.

Las Escobas Springs about 9km from the cruise pier is a tropical rain forest in the Cerro San Gil Protected Area. The Waterfall Trail and the Tropical Rain Forest Trail have beautiful tall trees. No Jaguars' spotted!

Making it from our port in SANTO TOMÁS DE CASTILLA to Tikal national park. Given the distance and short amount of time we had to take a small airplane. I'm not usually not a big fan of little planes but these flights were excellent.

Santo Tomas is part of Guatemala and located on the Carribean Site in Guatemala. Very famous locations there are for example Livingston or Rio Dulce.
