First days in Santiago, Chile and only good things to say about the nation's capital. The weather in Santiago seems to be gorgeous and sunny every day and today I am heading to the Plaza de Armas in the center of Santiago, Chile to walk around and see more of the downtown, or centro area of the capital.

Things to do in Santiago, Chile:

The Santiago Metro is one of the most organized and user friendly public transportation systems in South America which makes travelling Santiago Chile very simple. Took the metro to the centro of Santiago and popped out at the Plaza de Armas and was amazed by the Chilean architecture. Grand buildings, beautiful greenery and busy but relaxing promenades to walk for hours.

So far, Santiago Chile has been one of my favourite capital cities in all of South America, even Latin America in general. Will be doing more things in Santiago Chile and travelling more of Chile so many videos of the capital and the south of Chile to come!

Santiago is the capital and largest city in Chile. It is located in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, in the Chilean central valley, next to the Andes mountain range. It is the largest and most important and developed urban, financial, cultural and administrative center in the country. Called Grande Santiago or simply Santiago, it is an agglomeration that has 32 communes fully and 11 communes partially. Most of Santiago is in the province of the same name, with some peripheral sectors within the provinces of Maipo, Cordillera and Talagante.

In the year 2017, the conurbation extended over 641.4 km² and had a population of 6,257,516 inhabitants, which is equivalent to about 35.6% of the total population of the country in that year. According to these numbers, Santiago is effectively the seventh most populous city in Latin America, the 40th in the world and one of the 45 most populous metropolitan regions in the world.

The city of Santiago is home to the main governmental (with the exception of the National Congress, located in the city of Valparaíso), financial, administrative, commercial and cultural bodies of Chile. Santiago is also the headquarters of ECLAC, in addition to being considered the third Latin American capital with the best quality of life, after Montevideo (Montevideo in European Portuguese) and Buenos Aires, and a Beta + Global City, according to studies by Globalization and World Cities Research Network. It is considered the 2nd most competitive city in Latin America and the 60th in the world. In addition, it is ranked as the 53rd richest city in the world, with an estimated GDP of USD 93 billion (USD 93 billion in European Portuguese) in 2005 and expected to reach USD 205 billion (USD 205 billion in Portuguese). European Union) in the coming years.

Santiago, Chile

With its population of almost 7 million residents, Santiago, Chile’s capital, is one of the biggest cities in the Americas. But with its dozens of unique neighborhoods, and efficient public transit system providing quick movement from one to the other, it doesn’t seem that huge.

If you love fine dining, good-quality healthcare, walkable neighborhoods, and lots of great shopping, then you might enjoy Santiago. Learn more here:

Friday afternoon drive through Santiago Chile in South America. Video begins in Sanhattan (Santiago + Manhattan), the nickname given to Santiago's high-end financial district. The formal name for this area is Los Condes, home to the country's economic elite. Enjoy!
Santiago, also known as Santiago de Chile, is the capital and largest city of Chile as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. It is the center of Chile's largest and most densely populated conurbation, the Santiago Metropolitan Region, whose total population is 7 million. The city is entirely located in the country's central valley. Most of the city lies between 500 m (1,640 ft) and 650 m (2,133 ft) above mean sea level.

Santiago is the cultural, political and financial center of Chile and is home to the regional headquarters of many multinational corporations. The Chilean executive and judiciary are located in Santiago, but Congress meets mostly in nearby Valparaíso. Santiago is named after the biblical figure St. James. Santiago will host the 2023 Pan American Games.

Economy
Santiago is the industrial and financial center of Chile, and generates 45% of the country's GDP. Santiago's steady economic growth over the past few decades has transformed it into a modern metropolis. The city is now home to a growing theater and restaurant scene, extensive suburban development, dozens of shopping centers, and a rising skyline, including the tallest building in Latin America, the Gran Torre Santiago. It includes several major universities, and has developed a modern transportation infrastructure, including a free flow toll-based, partly underground urban freeway system and the Metro de Santiago, South America's most extensive subway system.

Chile, officially the Republic of Chile, is a South American country occupying a long, narrow strip of land between the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage in the far south.

The arid Atacama Desert in northern Chile contains great mineral wealth, principally copper and lithium. The relatively small central area dominates in terms of population and agricultural resources, and is the cultural and political center from which Chile expanded in the late 19th century when it incorporated its northern and southern regions. Southern Chile is rich in forests and grazing lands, and features a string of volcanoes and lakes. The southern coast is a labyrinth of fjords, inlets, canals, twisting peninsulas, and islands.

The modern sovereign state of Chile is among South America's most economically and socially stable and prosperous nations, with a high-income economy and high living standards. It leads Latin American nations in rankings of human development, competitiveness, income per capita, globalization, state of peace, economic freedom, and low perception of corruption. It also ranks high regionally in sustainability of the state, and democratic development.

Chile - Santiago - City tour part 1 - South America, part 73 - Travel video - HD

Founded on February 14, 1541 by Pedro de Valdivia at the base of Cerro Santa Lucia along the bank of the muddy Mapocho river, Santiago was nearly destroyed by Mapuche Indians six months later. It was rebuilt over the years, surviving floods, earthquakes, wars and more natural calamities and is now one of the largest cities of South America. Santiago is Chile's cultural, commercial, industrial and political center.
Santiago is a cosmopolitan city, with ample restaurants, bars, hotels, shopping from tiny boutique and craft fair to giant shopping mall. There are cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet, lively nightlife, plus parks, tree-lined streets and distinct neighborhoods. You'll see brand new high rises and large supermarkets next to old, shabby buildings. You'll have to fend off vendors and peddlers on the busses, but ride in peace and comfort on the subway system.

Luxury Travel to South America - Santiago de Chile - Kuoda Travel

Santiago is one of those metropolitan joys where the more you look, the more you find. Funky cafes and dance clubs dot Bellavista, Forest Park art collections range from pre-Columbian to contemporary, and architecture runs the gamut from the 16th-century San Francisco Church to mirrored office towers.

Santiago de Chile Tour of three city districts

Tour of three city districts: Ñuñoa, Providencia and downtown.

In Ñuñoa is placed the Estadio Nacional, the main sports facility in the country.

Providencia is home to the international district, with the tallest skyscraper in Latin America: the Costanera Center, with 300 meters tall.

In Santiago downtown district, or Santiago Centro is La Moneda, seat of national government, as well as the Cerro Santa Lucía (Saint Saint Lucia Hill).

Growth over the lst decades has produced high rises, a large population (6 million), traffic and all too often.
