San Juan, Puerto Rico Cruise Port Guide: Tips and Overview

Founded in 1521 by Ponce De Leon, San Juan Puerto Rico has two cruise terminals. Our guide focuses on the terminal in Old San Juan.

In addition to being the Capital of Puerto Rico and the oldest city in the US Territory, San Juan is known for its cobblestone streets, 16th century walls and fortresses, colorful architecture, expansive views of the water, and Bacardi Rum, all of which can be reached from the Old San Juan cruise terminal for little or no cost.

Celebrity Cruises stops in San Juan, Puerto on their Eastern Caribbean cruise.

I just got back from the most amazing vacation on Celebrity Cruises! I cruised on the Celebrity Silhouette for 7 nights on their Eastern Caribbean route and we stopped at three different ports: San Juan Puerto Rico; Basseterre, St. Kitts; and Phillipsburg, St. Maarten.

This video is from my incredible excursion to historic San Juan and the Bacardi Factory, where I enjoyed a mojito, toured the grounds and indulged in a 9 course Bacardi and food pairing that was heaven! Who knew rum goes with everything!

I hope you enjoy Puerto Rico travel vlog and my fun-filled adventure! I highly suggest you visit gorgeous San Juan, Puerto and the Casa Bacardi Factory next time you cruise with Celebrity Cruises.

Cruise Ports - San Juan, Puerto Rico

Get a glimpse of the beautiful city and cruise port of San Juan, Puerto Rico. There's lots to see and do during your cruise visit, see the Barcadi Factory, tour the fortifications of del Morro, take a dip on gorgeous sun kissed beaches, take a stroll around Old San Juan enjoying the Spanish architecture, and don't forget to try the many delicious foods and restaurants.

Puerto Rico looks like this?! ❤️ | San Juan old and new tour, Royal Caribbean Cruise Port

We're blown away by Puerto Rico! San Juan was a last minute addition to our Royal Caribbean cruise, so we booked the San Juan old and new walking tour from the cruise port and can't believe....⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —

It's our first time in Puerto Rico and we're sold! We're on a 7 day cruise with Royal Caribbean and one of our Caribbean stops was swapped for San Juan port instead, we weren't sure what to expect but turns out this tour was the most amazing intro to Puerto Rico — now we want to see more of the country!

To best check out San Juan we booked on to the San Juan old and new tour directly through Royal Caribbean, it's pricey as far as tours go, but we got collected from the cruise port in down town San Juan and driven around all day with a guide so the value is definitely there. It was kind of a driven tour and a walking tour all at the same time and kept us out of the burning sun of Puerto Rico!

San Juan is a super colourful place and has so much incredible history, tasty food, lovely people and plenty of soul. Puerto Rico itself has much more to offer than just the capital, so we're sold and will definitely have to come back to travel around more of the country.

Best Time to Visit San Juan, Puerto Rico

See the best times to visit San Juan, Puerto Rico, on vacation. Find out which months have the best temperatures and lowest risk of rain.

* Please SUBSCRIBE to get more videos *

More Puerto Rico tips:

The Puerto Rico cruise port at San Juan is one of the most popular cruise ports in the Caribbean. Tourism is especially popular during the dry season from December through April. The most popular month of the year to visit is March followed by December.

WEATHER TIPS: WHEN IS THE RAINY SEASON?
Puerto Rico has a long rainy season that goes from May through December when the average monthly rainfall ranges between four and six inches.

Historically, the month with the lowest risk of rain is February with an average of two inches. The months with the highest risk of rain are May, September and October with an average of almost six inches. September and October are the peak months of the Caribbean hurricane season.

Even through December is a popular month to visit, it has a higher than normal risk of rain. March is the best month to visit for a combination of warm weather and low risk of rain. April is better for temperatures but also has a higher risk of rain.

WHEN IS HURRICANE SEASON?
Puerto Rico weather also has a hurricane season like the rest of the Caribbean. It goes from June through November when the risk of tropical storms and hurricanes goes higher.

Major storms and hurricanes rarely hit the island directly. Instead, they pass in the vicinity and bring high winds and heavy rains. June and November have the lowest risk, followed by July and August.

AVERAGE TEMPERATURES
Average daytime temperatures stay in a fairly narrow range between 84 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to 89 in the summer, although some days are warmer or cooler than average. These averages come from the U.S. National Weather Service.

Daytime temperatures in the low 80s during the winter sound appealing. But nighttime temperatures often drop into the 60s, which may make seawater too chilly for swimming, especially in the mornings.

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Solo Travel Information and Advice

I forgot to talk about UBER, the Catãna Ferry (which is only 50 cents each way) and the Bacardi Experience. Use the ferry and take an UBER back to the airport to save yourself a few bucks! Yes, you can take an UBER to the airport. You just can’t take one from the airport. The UBER drivers are excellent in PR but highly detested by taxis because like Mexico and similar countries they do not pay all the ordinance fees like taxis do!

San Juan, Puerto Rico - City Tour & Shopping

Come explore San Juan, Puerto Rico with us! This brief video is a quick tour of the city - including historic downtown, a local beach, a centuries-old fort, shopping areas, and ending at the San Juan cruise ship terminal. Check this out for interesting information about the city, as well as helpful advice for those who are visiting San Juan or spending the day there from a cruise ship.

Ponta Delgado Cruise Port Guide

Ponta Delgado Cruise Port Guide. Ponta Delgado is a popular stop of transatlantic carribean cruises. It is a stop that breaks up the long sea day period. My advice here, get an excursion or private taxi tour, as there isn;t much else to do here!

We did a private taxi tour here, and it was very much worth it.

New York City Cruise Port Guide: Manhattan Cruise Terminal Hotel

If you need a place to stay in New York City before or after your cruise, and want a reasonably priced hotel close to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, you might want to check out the Comfort Inn Midtown West.

The hotel is located just a quarter of a mile -- or a 5-minute walk -- from where the cruise ships dock. You can actually see one of the piers -- Pier 88 -- at the end of the road from the hotel! Both times we’ve stayed at the Comfort Inn, we were able to get a decent rate compared to other nearby properties.
