These markets have a huge variety of fruit and other fresh produce and are busy with locals for most of the time they're open - that's 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Saturday. It's not only a good place to shop but also to meet people as a lot of locals do. There are some great options for lunch for the equivalent of about $5 Australian.
Here you're pretty much in the centre of town, a minute or so walk from the flea markets and a few minutes from the fresh fish market where you can pick up the best Samoan sea food right off the boats.
There is a major bus station adjacent to the markets.

Umu has been around for as long as Samoan people have lived on these islands – more than 3,000 years.
It contains meats such as chicken or pork, seafood including different types of fish or octopus placed in half coconut shell ‘bowls’ with coconut cream, a variety of vegetables and fruit like talo (taro), ulu (breadfruit) and unripe bananas (fa’i).

Wondering where to go for fresh and local food while in AMERICAN SAMOA?
This week we're taking you with us to check out the FAGATOGO MARKET.
We ended up going three times while making this video, to show you the experiences of going on different days and at different times.
Saturday morning is actually rather quiet, which surprised us. The first Friday of every month is usually very busy, with food venders and entertainment, but ever since the COVID-19 restrictions, it's been a quieter affair, but still with some delicious food venders. It turns out that Friday mornings are the time to come if you're looking for fresh produce and sea food, with the Fagatogo Fish Market open only on Friday mornings.
