São Tomé e Príncipe as ilhas do chocolate

website:
This is my country came with me to get to know it. Sao Tome and Principe is a small country, consisting of two beautiful islands located right in the middle of Golf of Guinea, just a few miles of the coast of Africa.
As we´re really close to the equator, here it is always warm, which is very good to travel around the island and discover all the beatiful things that we have to offer.
Most of the island's is coverd by a huge forest that we call obô and it is from it that we collect most of our food... And this is also the home of many animal and plant species that only live here because of our sustainable way of planting.
But to discover other incredible creatures we have to visit the beautiful water that surround our islands.
Here we can find our magnificent beaches and it is from this beautiful blue sea that our ever-fresh fish comes from which we eat every day...

São Tomé and Príncipe, the least visited country in Africa - Highlights of São Tomé island

The African islands of São Tomé and Príncipe are nestled in the warm equatorial waters of the Gulf of Guinea and are often forgotten by most travelers. Over the last few years, the country has become a true paradise for eco-tourism with its expansive lush jungle, love for slow food, picture-perfect beaches, and jaw-dropping mountainous volcanic landscape.
The main island of São Tomé is full of incredible experiences: from the coastline shaped by immense pressure of volcanic activity (such as Boca do Inferno blowhole) and scattered with pristine sandy beaches, to steep vertigo-inducing basaltic spires (such as Pico Cao Grande) and ruined plantation houses (like Ribeira Ize). Perhaps the most mysterious experiences are found in the surrounding islets - sailing under the rocky Ilheu de Santana is definitely unforgettable. To top it all of, the people of São Tomé will charm all the visitors with their lively culture and unique cuisine.

Paradise on Earth! | Exploring São Tomé

Welcome to São Tomé. In December of 2019 and with the help of Expedition Earth, I travelled to São Tomé Island. We went on a recon mission to scout the island for future tours. This island was recommended to us by one of Johan's friends and wow this is a lost paradise, to say the least!

We traversed the island for 16 days and despite the Island being reasonably small, we still did not get around to everything. This island has so much to over and see and the history on this remote island is beyond belief. Enjoy this video and I hope everyone gets a chance to travel to this beautiful island called São Tomé!

São Tomé / an Unknown African Destination

There is a quick edit I put together from my trip to São Tomé and Príncipe. No doubt it is now one of my favourite tropical destinations in Africa.

We stayed at @pestanahotels hotels who arranged the trip to Ilhéu das Rolas. (A small island where you can find the center of the ecuator). The director of the resort was so nice with us and show us the activities on the island. After the visit to the center of the world we spent some time backflipping and playing with the locals. An unforgettable experience!

Have you heard about the Island of Príncipe?

The Island of Príncipe and its neighbouring São Tomé can be found 200km off the Gulf of Guinea, West Africa. This Portuguese archipelago provides its visitors with excellent & attentive service, meaningful experiences, organic agriculture, privacy & intimacy, small scale tourism, spectacular accommodations in perfect balance with nature, unique biodiversity & nature and a unique culinary history.

Travel Matters has been talking to HBD about their focus on conservation & sustainability, along with the shared vision of the Regional Government. As of 2012, the island has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve because of its pristine jungles with 300-foot waterfalls, deserted beaches, crystal-clear emerald waters, turtle nesting & hatchling sites and whale watching opportunities.

In 1900 São Tomé & Príncipe was the world’s biggest producer of cacao and the islands were known as the Chocolate Islands. Fast forward to 2011, Príncipe was installed with 24 hour electricity, cars, commerce and workable infrastructure. In order to separate the commercial side of the project from the educational and conservationist, the Principe Trust Foundation was created in 2015. Today, with hotels, maintenance and agriculture, HBD employs 10% of the population of Príncipe, and the majority of the Príncipe Trust Foundation’s staff is now local. HBD is even in collaboration with the Azores Tourism School, where 100 students trained will be placed for 9 months in areas such as; restaurant operation, housekeeping, gardening and reception.

New initiatives are always taking place, like The Fundação Príncipe Trust (FPT), a Conservation NGO based in Príncipe Island that was created in 2015. This Trust was created in order to reorganise the environmental and social arm of the tourism investment company HBD. Today, the FPT is working towards becoming an independent body, operating alongside HBD and the local government and supported closely by Fauna and Flora International, an international conservation NGO that focuses on building and strengthening local NGO's.

Travel Matters believes Príncipe is a truly Sustainable and exciting Destination, especially if you love intact & stunning scenery and a population who are excited to receive open-minded & truly Sustainable guests!

Sao Tome and Principe: The Islands in the Middle of the World

Positioned just off Gabon's coast and secluded from the rest of the globe, this stands as one of Africa's tiniest nations. Its populace is a blend of the descendents of slaves and the initial Portuguese settlers. Within these untouched islands, where Nature is so generous, the people of Sao Tome and Principe revel in a paradise of lush forests, towering peaks, and azure seas.

The small island country of São Tomé and Principe is one of the least visited countries in the world with only around 13,000 tourists a year. The main island, São Tomé, is located 250 km off the western coast of Africa and it’s chocolate is regarded as one of the best in the world.

In this video, I went to São Tomé on a chocolate tasting tour and visited a couple of cocoa plantations on the island (and some other interesting sites). All I can say is, come here before everybody else does!
