Romantic Road (Germany) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about the Romantic Road in Germany.
Thousands of years of history is experienced by those who travel Germany’s Romantic Road with its world famous historic cities, fortresses and palaces, from Würzburg to Neuschwanstein Castle. The picturesque Baroque town of Würzburg is located on the River Main amid the Franconian wine region and is dominated by the mighty Marienberg Fortress. Tauberbischofsheim is one of the oldest cities in the popular Tauber Valley that was once completely walled. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is where Germany’s Middle Ages have been preserved up to the present day with huge entrance gates and high walls that lead into the former imperial city. The High Gothic main church of Saint Jacob gleams with both the Twelve Messenger Altar and the Holy Blood Altar. Bavarian king, Ludwig The Second, made Füssen into a fairy tale place with Castle Neuschwanstein the realisation of his amazing world of fantasy. The castle was in construction for seventeen years and in every way the idyll of ancient German knighthood. The wealth of occidental history, art and culture makes a journey on the Romantic Road a most fascinating adventure into the past. A dream journey through a country and its history.

The Celts created a fortress that subsequent rulers gradually extended and the oldest church in Franconia, including a massive watchtower, continues to be protected by several huge walls. Tauberbischofsheim is one of the oldest cities in the popular Tauber Valley that was once completely walled. Missionary bishop, Boniface, founded Germany’s first women's monastery in Germany in 735 A.D. and installed a family member, Lioba, as abbess, who tutored the daughters of the nobility and the Free Francs. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is where Germany’s Middle Ages have been preserved up to the present day with huge entrance gates and high walls that lead into the former imperial city.
In 1868, Bavarian King Ludwig The Second had a dream come true in Allgäu, southern Germany: Castle Neuschwanstein, the realisation of his amazing world of fantasy.
This fairytale castle was in construction for seventeen years and in every way the idyll of ancient German knighthood.
The wealth of occidental history, art and culture makes a journey on the Romantic Road a most fascinating adventure into the past. A dream journey through a country and its history.

Romantic Road, Germany - Travel Video

Founded in 1950 as a tourist project, the Romantic Road is a 460km route through charming German villages. It runs from Würzburg to Füssen.

What's cool about it? It takes you on a journey through a wealth of history, art, cuisine, and Western culture - while the landscape changes along the way from north to south.

As you travel the 29 cities along the route, I can assure you: it is impossible not to fall in love and be fascinated by the almost time travel.

There are other impressive routes in Germany - it is true - such as the Fairytale Route and the Lake District Route. But the Romantic Route is the oldest and most popular (or still the most loved) of them all.

Here's a curiosity: do you know why the Romantic Route has this name?

Because many German romantic poets of the 18th and 19th centuries found their inspiration in the little towns on the route. Not only them, in fact: Walt Disney was also inspired there. Neuschwanstein Castle on the outskirts of Füssen is the starting point for Cinderella's Castle - and the town Rothenburg, in turn, inspired him in the creation of Pinocchio.

The route begins in Wüzrburg and ends in the Bavarian* town of Füssen.About 30 cities make up the Romantic Route in Germany.

The ones that receive the most praise and that we recommend you visit are: Füssen and Schwangau, Halblech, Steingarden, Landsberg Am Lech, Ausburg, Donauwörth, Nordingen, Dinkelsbühl, Rothenburgh o.d.T and Wüzrburg.A little off the beaten track are Heidelberg, Nuremberg and Zuspitze.I love the option of doing roadtrips with the freedom of a rental car. You don't have to worry about schedules, you can stop wherever and whenever you want and really make a trip according to your interests.

Some people say that the Romantic Route is not a well defined route. I think this is because if you ask in Germany where is the Romantic Road - or romantisch estrasse in German - most of the locals will not know the answer. This is because it is really a tourist name, used mainly by foreigners. But it exists and is well defined, yes! However, it is important to note that the Romantic Road in Germany is not a specific road.

It is the union of alternative routes - off the main roads - connecting 29 cities/villages in the country. In both directions of the route there are BRAND LABELS indicating the route from the beginning to the end. Following them is the easiest way to stay on the right track, avoiding the crowded highways and keeping in the time travel mood, passing through small but charming villages. When is the best time to travel the Romantic Road?

The truth is that this trip can be done at any time of the year.

Germany (Europe) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Germany.
Germany is situated in the middle of Europe and is a land of diverse culture and tradition, from Bavarian homeliness in the south, and mediaeval splendour within its centre, to its flourishing lifestyle in the east and large commercial cities in the north, it is a country which extends from the Alps to the North Sea. The episcopal city of Passau nestles between hills at the confluence of the Danube, Inn and Ilz. High above the rivers and strategically perched on a rock is the castle complex of Veste Oberhaus, imposing and impregnable. The salt trade enriched the town and Italian baroque masters were allowed to create the cityscape of the historic old town. Beginning in Würzburg On The Main, the Romantic Road leads to various well known historic cities, castles and palaces. Between 1642 and the middle of the eighteenth century, three prince-bishops gave the city its Baroque architecture and also the castle known as The Residence. Nuremberg is the ‘secret capital’ of German Franconia and ‘treasure trove of the German Reich’, the epitome of German romanticism and tradition with a long history and also bitter memories of quite recent times. An Imperial City which indeed became the City Of Party Rallies but which has never lost its benevolent spirit. Dresden is the capital of the German free state of Saxony, a major centre of culture with a remarkable history. Although almost completely destroyed at the end of the Second World War and for many years hidden behind the Iron Curtain, today the city shines out in all of its former splendour. Hamburg is a lively metropolis in the north of Germany and for many centuries was a gateway to the world and a work of art with many different faces. Each year on the seventh of May, Harbour Birthday is celebrated when people from all over the world gather within the various galleries of the landing stages to celebrate a huge festival. With its culture and many diverse and beautiful landscapes, Germany is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Germany) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Rothenburg ob der Tauber in Germany.
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a city located on the Romantic Road and where Germany’s Middle Ages have been preserved right up to the present day.
The huge Röder Gate is one of several entrances to this former free imperial city that is protected by a high wall and massive fortified towers.
From the market square, the Herrengasse leads down to the Burg Gate. In previous centuries a horse market was held there and it was also a much-favoured residential area of the aristocracy. Next to the Herrn Fountain is a Franciscan Church, a spartan mediaeval sacred building with five chapels and numerous tombs along its walls.
One of the city’s most famous views is Plönlein Gate, Siebers Tower and a number of half-timbered buildings. Another strongly fortified gate, the Kobolzeller Gate, is both defiant and powerful at the same time.
Located above theTauber Valley, Rothenburg is, not surprisingly, a very popular tourist destination, a fairytale, picture-postcard city.

The Perfect Germany Road Trip | Bavaria, Mountains & Lakes Guide

Welcome back to Germany everybody! After visiting this beautiful country last year we have been planning our return trip - this time to German Bavaria to chase mountains and lakes

Where we stayed Haus Sonnenschein:

Our journey started in Bratislava, Slovakia where we boarded a bus to Vienna Airport, caught a flight to Stutgart, Germany and drove across the country towards Eibsee Lake - big travel day but so worth it for the views of Zugspitze Mountain.

After checking into our cute Airbnb we found a German pub serving pizza, crashed for the night and woke up to miserable weather. But we still wanted to conquer a German mountain here in the Bavarian Alps...it just happens to be Wank mountain...yep.

What a shocking day here in Germany - but so worth it!

Romantic Road Germany (Romantische Straße)

Hey guys welcome back to my channel. This video is basically a summary of all the footage I took when traveling down the romantic road in Germany with my family. Some of the places had so many tourists and people it was hard to take pictures. I think my favorite town was Harburg, because it was so empty. But Rothenberg was also great and I can see why A lot of people visit there. This town had the most group tours as well, so I guess Rick Steves was right when he recommended it.
