Captain Bligh's Tomb

Captain Bligh's tomb is my favourite thing about the Garden Museum in Lambeth. There are actually two reasons why this church is special to me. The two main documentaries I've made are about The Mutiny on the Bounty and Pedlars.
By chance there is a Pedlars Window in this church because a pedlar who did very well for himself once donated an acre of land to the church of St Mary at Lambeth on the condition that they remember him here. The pedlar's acre is now where County Hall stands, the irony being that if you try to peddle your wares there today you get closed down by the council.
In the garden is Captain Bligh's tomb and he really was a remarkable sailor and navigator. He witnessed the death of Captain Cook in Hawaii and was more famously known as the captain who was set adrift in the Pacific Ocean by Fletcher Christian and a gang of mutineers in 1790.
He managed to navigate his way back to Timor in the Dutch East Indies with just a sextant and his memory. There were 19 in the boat and he only lost one man to a savage tribe on an unfriendly island of Tofua.
The maps he drew were still in operation until satellite navigation came in.

Myth Bounty In the Footsteps of a Mutiny (Part 2)

This is the second part of the emotional documentary about the Bounty - Pitcairn Conderence 2005. Barbara Kuchau (BKuchau.com) organized the Conference in the St. Petersburg Bay Area - Florida. She brought together the knowledge and the experiences about the the world's most famous mutiny and the Pitcairn Island history.

Captain Robin Walbridge, one of several interesting speakers is very involved with the history of the Bounty. He is the capitain of the historic sailing ship which was built in 1960 for the remake of the movie Mutiny on the Bounty, starring Marlon Brando.
The Bounty Pitcairn History is rich of curious stories.
One is the castaway story of Tonmarchin and the Monkey Moko. We talk to a witness who worked on the Pioneer Isle in 1957.
Tom and Betty Christian, descendants of the mutineers told us about the living on Pitcairn, which is still a remote island.
Melva showed a video of an accident happend on Pitcairn. One of the boats chrashed into the rocks because of heavy waves.
