Port Call in American Samoa (Drone Footage)
During our last patrol, we pulled into the Territory of American Samoa. AMSAM is usually a port we pull into for some down time and to resupply. During the port call the crew attended a feast at a local bar, and the next day we went on a 7.5 mile cross island hike on Mt. Alava with some great views of the island and Pago Pago Harbor. Destination American Samoa, this page is about many aspects of the archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean. A group of seven islands and atolls, with the main island of Tutuila. American Samoa is an unincorporated overseas territory of the U.S. in the southern Pacific Ocean. The territory shares maritime borders with Samoa, Tonga, Cook Islands (New Zealand), Niue (New Zealand), and Tokelau (New Zealand).
It is the United States' only territory south of the equator, situated about 4,000 km (2,600 mi) south west of Hawaii, east of the island of Samoa (Western Samoa) and 1,200 km south of the island of Kiribati.
With an area of 199 km² American Samoa is about three-quarter the size of Malta, or slightly larger than Washington, DC.
The US territory has a population of 54,300, capital town is Pago Pago on the island of Tutuila. Spoken languages are Samoan 89% (closely related to Hawaiian and other Polynesian languages), English 4%, and Tongan.

National Park of American Samoa
This year we're visiting all 59 National Parks to celebrate the NPS centennial year and share the park love! National Park of American Samoa was #24. It's the only park in the southern hemisphere, it's the farthest in our travels and it's completely unique. Since the park doesn't have camping, we utilized its unique homestay program to stay for a week in Vatia village with a family. The village was surrounded by the park on all sides and we were constantly exploring the park right behind the house with the kids. Check out our video to see how we found our park through the beautiful land, cultures and mostly people of American Samoa!

Pago Pago (pronounced Pango Pango), American Samoa is the only American possession in the Southern Hemisphere and was a port of call on a cruise from San Diego to Sydney, Australia. It was used in the Second World War as an American naval base.

American Samoa, Pacific Ocean - stunning Alega beach in American Samoa. Let's travel to American Samoa in the Pacific Ocean and let's visit the beautiful beach of Alega (Alega Beach) which is located on a village with the same name on the southeast coast of Tutuila Island, American Samoa. Tisa's Barefoot Bar is also in Alega Beach, which is a bar that also operates a fale sleeping four on Alega Beach. Alega beach has a secluded character and is removed from the village. Bus services are frequent between Alega and Pago Pago.
American Samoa is a U.S. territory covering 7 South Pacific islands and atolls. Tutuila, the largest island, is home to the capital Pago Pago, whose natural harbor is framed by volcanic peaks including 1,716-ft.-high Rainmaker Mountain. Divided between the islands Tutuila, Ofu and Ta‘ū, the National Park of American Samoa highlights the territory's tropical scenery with rainforests, beaches and reefs.

Samoa By Drone | Savai'i
Some left over drone footage from a recent trip to Samoa. Footage is unable to be used for real videos, due to shadows in shot, leaves blowing, you can see me, etc etc. The best is yet to come..
All footage shot on Savai'i, the largest of the islands which make up Samoa, using a DJI Phantom 3 Professional quadcopter filming platform (aka drone), shooting 1080P HD footage at 50 frames per second.
Special thanks to Kuki at Le Lagoto Resort, and Sale at Vai Moana Seaside Lodge for making these images possible, co-ordinating access, providing transport, and basically making me feel very welcome in Savai'i.

A Day on American Samoa's Tutuila Island
In 2019, we set an adventurous goal to visit every National Park in the United States, including the 12 far-flung parks in Alaska, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.
We arrived in Pago Pago on Tutuila during their summer (which was early February) and spent the following four days exploring the unique territory of American Samoa. This aerial video showcases American Samoa's iconic Flower Pot Rock, which appears on the license plates there, and Pago Pago harbor, home to the Starkist tuna cannery.
