Penang is also called 'the pearl of the Orient'. This city has an illustrious past and a lot of hidden treasures. It is a paradise for travel enthusiasts, with a lot of history, culture, good food and architecture. Because it was a British colony, there are still many colonial buildings. After that, the city of Georgetown became a trading post for the Chinese, who also left behind their historic structures. On the jetties on the water, they still live the traditional way. We also visit Little India, the oldest Thai temple, the skyscrapers and much more. After an earlier city trip in Kuala Lumpur, a visit to the jungle in Taman Negara, the high mountains in the Cameron Highlands and this journey of discovery in Penang, we will then conclude the journey on the wonderful island of Langkawi!
We make our trip through Malaysia during a year-long world tour. We may even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam. Indonesia is a transcontinental unitary sovereign state located mainly in Southeast Asia, with some territories in Oceania. Indonesia lies between latitudes 11°S and 6°N, and longitudes 95°E and 141°E. It is the largest archipelagic country in the world, extending 5,120 kilometres (3,181 mi) from east to west and 1,760 kilometres (1,094 mi) from north to south. According to a geospatial survey conducted between 2007 and 2010 by the National Mapping Agency, Indonesia has 13,466 islands, scattered over both sides of the equator, and with about 6,000 of them are inhabited. The largest are Java, Sumatra, Borneo (shared with Brunei and Malaysia), Sulawesi, and New Guinea (shared with Papua New Guinea). Indonesia shares land borders with Malaysia on Borneo, Papua New Guinea on the island of New Guinea, and East Timor on the island of Timor. Indonesia shares maritime borders across narrow straits with Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Palau to the north, and Australia to the south.
At 4,884 metres (16,024 ft), Puncak Jaya is Indonesia's highest peak, and Lake Toba in Sumatra is the largest lake, with an area of 1,145 km2 (442 sq mi). Indonesia's largest rivers are in Kalimantan and New Guinea and include Kapuas, Barito, Mamberamo, Sepik and Mahakam; such rivers are communication and transport links between the island's river settlements.
