Gratitude & Acknowledgement:
Thank you to all the Palauans who took part in this video sharing their culture to simply helping me learn. This is what cultural immersion is all about and grateful to all of you.

Why Living Like A..?:

Living Like A Palauan was an idea I had prior to Palau had I immersed myself deeply and naturally into the culture. And because I did, that idea quickly took off with the video project underway Mid November until this week.

But Living Like A.. didnt begin in Palau, it actually began 5 years ago in the Kingdom Of Tonga????????, where I was so blessed to be able to stay in a village on the island group of Vava'u.

Little did I know, my curiosity of the ways Tongans live their lives allowed me to, in the short time that i stayed, LIVE LIKE A TONGAN.

Living Like A Tongan was my very first true culturally immersive experience in my travels and to this day is very special to me, as well as the thousands of Tongans that watch it. It opened the door to a whole new inner passion of mine and that was learning about world cultures. ????

Living Like a Tongan happened to be one of my biggest Youtube videos and has beautifully brought so many proud Tongans to my video and to my channel, thanking me for loving their culture and taking the time to show the Tongan way.

Living Like A Palaun is very much all of this with the same heart, love, and passion for culture. The only difference now, my camera gear is far better and my storytelling and post editing skills are through the roof.

Which means, the ability to extend the voices of Palau and represent a whole culture is far greater. ????????

Palau /pəˈlaʊ/ (help·info), officially the Republic of Palau (Palauan: Beluu er a Belau), is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, some 500 miles (800 km) east of the Philippines and 2,000 miles (3,200 km) south of Tokyo. Having emerged from United Nations trusteeship (administered by the United States) in 1994, it is one of the world's youngest and smallest sovereign states. In English, the name is sometimes spelled Belau in accordance with the native pronunciation. It was formerly also spelled Pelew.[3]

Palau's most populous islands are Angaur, Babeldaob, Koror, and Peleliu. The latter three lie together within the same barrier reef, while Angaur is an oceanic island several miles to the south. About two-thirds of the population live on Koror. The coral atoll of Kayangel is situated north of these islands, while the uninhabited Rock Islands (about 200) are situated to the west of the main island group. A remote group of six islands, known as the Southwest Islands, some 375 miles (600 km) from the main islands, are also part of the country and make up the states of Hatohobei and Sonsorol.

[edit] Climate
Palau enjoys a tropical climate all year round with an annual mean temperature of 82 °F (28 °C). Rainfall can occur throughout the year, averaging a total of 150 inches (3,800 mm). The average humidity over the course of the year is 82%, and although rain falls more frequently between July and October, there is still much sunshine. Typhoons are rare, as Palau is outside the main typhoon zone.

Consists primarily of tourism, subsistence agriculture, and fishing. Tourist activity focuses on scuba diving and snorkeling in the islands' rich marine environment, including its barrier reefs walls and World War II wrecks. The government is the major employer of the work force, relying heavily on financial assistance from the US. Business and tourist arrivals numbered 50,000 in the financial year 2000/2001. The population enjoys a per capita income twice that of the Philippines and much of Micronesia. Long-term prospects for the key tourist sector have been greatly bolstered by the expansion of air travel in the Pacific, the rising prosperity of leading East Asian countries, and the willingness of foreigners to finance infrastructure development.

In July 2004, Palau Micronesia Air was launched with service from Palau to Yap, Guam, Micronesia, Saipan, Australia, and the Philippines. By offering low fares it was planned to be a competitor of Continental Micronesia, however it ceased operations in December of the same year, mainly because of rising fuel prices. Palau Micronesia Air has not restarted operations since but has made a codeshare alliance with Asian Spirit, a carrier that operates flights between Palau and the Philippines (Davao, Cebu, and Manila). There are two flights weekly from Manila via Cebu to Palau and one flight weekly from Davao. Just after few months of service, Asian Spirit ceased its Philippines to Palau route.

Taxes are moderate, the income tax has 3 brackets with medium rates (9.3%, 15% and 19.6%), corporate tax is 4% and general sales tax is 7.5%. There are no property taxes.

MICRONESIA: Interior of a modern Men's House ???? in YAP, let's go inside! (Pacific Ocean)

Island of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia, Pacific Ocean - a men's house (faluw) in Micronesia, Yap island, Pacific Ocean. Let's visit the island of Yap, in the Pacific Ocean, in the Federated States of Micronesia. We will visit a faluw which is the men's house; men's houses (faluw) were built on the shoreline with easy access to the sea. Prior to World War I, on the island of Yap, women were kidnapped by them and taken to the a men's house (faluw) to live with them. Today this practice no longer occurs. Women considered it an honor to be chosen for the men's house (faluw), because only the most beautiful women would be taken there. Such a woman was called the mispil (resident female) of the faluw. As the island's culture was more and more influenced by the rest of the world's views on prostitution, this practice ended. Here's a view of a modern men's house...
Yap is an island in the Federated States of Micronesia, in the Pacific Ocean. It’s ringed by coral reefs that are home to manta rays and sharks. Huge pieces of ancient stone money and traditional thatch-roofed meeting houses dot villages like Kaday and Wanyan. In Colonia town, the Yap Living History Museum explores Micronesian culture through dancing and handicrafts. The Tamilyog Trail winds through dense forest.

Suic*de Cliff
is a cliff above Marpi Point Field near the northern tip of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, which achieved historic significance late in World War II.

Also known as Laderan Banadero, it is a location where numerous Japanese civilians and Imperial Japanese Army soldiers committed suic*de by jumping to their deaths in July 1944 in order to avoid capture by the United States. Japanese propaganda had emphasized brutal American treatment of Japanese, citing the American mutilation of Japanese war dead and claiming U.S. soldiers were bloodthirsty and without morals.

Bird Island
Located on the Pacific Ocean side of Saipan, Bird Island is a striking islet which can be easily seen from roadside viewing areas. A great photo op location.

Banzai Cliff
is a historical site at the northern tip of Saipan island in the Northern Mariana Islands, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Towards the end of the Battle of Saipan in 1944, hundreds of Japanese civilians and soldiers (of the Imperial Japanese Army) jumped off the cliff to their deaths in the ocean and rocks below, to avoid being captured by the Americans. Not far away, a high cliff named Suic*de Cliff overlooks the coastal plain, and was another site of numerous suic*des. At Banzai Cliff, some who jumped did not die and were captured by American ships

| Abandoned Pacific Barrier Radar ||| |
Located at the top of Mt. Petosukura is an abandoned radar tower, a last vestige of Cold War surveillance trying its best to fight back against the encroaching jungle.

The facility dates to the late 1980s when the Air Force chose some high ground on the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the western Pacific. They repurposed the site with some repurposed equipment, cutting out a patch of dense foliage and replanting it with a 40-foot radar tower. The installation on the island of Saipan was the third of the U.S. military’s Pacific Barrier Radar sites—or PACBAR III—and its mission was to detect and track Soviet satellites and missile launches.

Last Japanese Command Post
This bunker was the last command post of the Japanese defenders on Saipan and was captured on 9th of July in 1944 by the 4th Marine Division after heavy fighting. The large hole was caused by a direct hit from a shell fired by an U.S. battleship.

Jellyfish Lake in Palau is open to the public again!

In this 35 min webinar, we give a full update on the status of Jellyfish Lake in Palau.

Ongoing monitoring conducted by the Coral Reef Research Foundation (CRRF) indicated that the jellyfish populations were now rebounding after the declines that were a result of the drought conditions experienced throughout Palau in 2016.

Similar conditions were experienced in 1998 which also decimated the populations of jellyfish but eventually recovered fully as conditions returned to normal. One of many marine lakes throughout the Rock Islands Southern Lagoon (RISL), the unique environments found within these ecosystems were a strong argument for the inscription of the RISL to be a World Heritage Site.

Based on the current conditions and the continued recovery of the site, it was determined that Ongeim’l Tketau or Jellyfish Lake had sufficient numbers of jellyfish to provide visitors with a quality experience.

Similar to 1998, site managers are confident that the populations of jellyfish will make a full recovery and monitoring data from CRRF supports this expectation. While the jellyfish lake is open, management will continue to integrate appropriate safeguards to ensure the protection and sustainable use of this unique site.
