Niue Island Tourism Promotional

We visited this remote island in the South Pacific in 2012 on the (then) once weekly fligth from Auckland. Niue is not your typical South Pacific Island with snowy white sand and swaying palm trees! But what they lack in terms of beaches the reason why you should come here, is the people of the island! Incredible hospitable and we felt that the entire island met us at the airport on arrival. Immediately invited to chair in local traditions (as the weekly sundowner on the beach bar) to local festivities. And on top of the people iot is the incredible diving that are offered on Niue. This is a very special place in the South Pacific scheme of things! The video was given to us by the Niue Tourism Office.

1 month, 3 countries. Rarotonga, Niue and Tonga!

This month, we sailed through 3 countries, spent lots of time on the water, but also, got to see places that we didn't know existed. Being from Quebec, can't say we hear very much about countries like Niue and the Cook Islands.

Thank you for watching!

Travel Tips: Niue

AS SEEN ON THECOCONET.TV

TRAVEL TIPS: NIUE

2,400 kilometers northeast of New Zealand and a part of the triangle formed by the Kingdom of Tonga to the west, the Samoa's to the north and the Cook Islands to the east, sits Niue Island.

Niu ē translates to mean Behold the coconut but the land has been known by a few names in her time; Like the one Captain James Cook coined in 1774, Savage Island.
Legend has it; the natives that greeted him were painted in what appeared to Cook and his crew to be blood. It turns out that the suspicious substance on their teeth was from the harmless hulahula, a native red banana- But Cook wasn't so keen to stick around and find that out- so the name Savage Island stuck for a couple of centuries.
Niue is also affectionately known as The Rock of Polynesia due to the fact that it's one of the world's largest coral Islands. The landscape is made up of steep limestone cliffs that rise out of the ocean to impressive heights of up to 60 meters.
And to our coconet.tv travel guide Shimpal Lelisi -- Niue is simply called- Home. So who better to give you a guided tour? Jump in with Shim and take in the sights and sounds of this truly unique pacific Island.

NIUE

Island of NIUE: Magnificent, STUNNING CAVES ????, let's go inside! (Pacific Ocean)

The caves of the island of Niue, Pacific Ocean - magnificent, stunning caves of the island of Niue in the Pacific Ocean. Let's go visit the magnificent caves of the beautiful island nation of Niue in the Pacific Ocean. According to some European cave experts, Niue possesses the most spectacular and extensive cave system in the entire South Pacific.
Niue’s coastline is punctuated by literally hundreds of magnificent caves and chasms. The caves of Niue are unique and some, where the sea no longer invades, are used for the storage of canoes while others have been used as ancient burial places or homes in the past. Many caves in Niue are still being formed, with stalagmites and stalactites in all stages of formation. Many can be explored self guided but for those that dare tours can be arranged for some more challenging and impressive caves can be booked through the Niue Tourism Visitor Information Centre.
Niue is a small island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. It’s known for its limestone cliffs and coral-reef dive sites. Migrating whales swim in Niue's waters between July and October. In the southeast is the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area, where trails through fossilized coral forests lead to the Togo and Vaikona chasms. The northwest is home to the rock pools of Avaiki Cave and the naturally formed Talava Arches.
