Is MONTAÑITA heaven or hell??? | ECUADOR TRAVEL

Montañita is the most famous beach town in Ecuador, but do you know why? Whether you love it or hate it, it's worth taking a look!

I shot this video right after my camera broke so shooting a video, and audio with all the music pumping was really challenging but I hope I shared something you may not have known before.

You can support my work at where I share tips that don't make it to videos and behind the scenes content.

Need an English speaking guide in Ecuador? I hired my friend Andres to tour the country, he's got an SUV and is a licensed national guide. The best way to reach him is on Whatapp: +593 98 711 9550 and second best by email at andrivet77 AT gmail.com.

His family owns accommodations in Cuenca and it's where I stay! You can book directly with him to avoid booking fees.

This is my SIXTH time exploring Ecuador travel and food.

// MORE ABOUT ME!//
Hi I'm Ayngelina and my full time job is my site BaconisMagic.ca it's all about the best food around the world and how to make it at home.

In 2010 I left a job in advertising, 5 year relationship and sold all my possessions to travel the world. In the last ten years I've had some crazy experiences and even owned a restaurant in Toronto at one time. And prior to 2020 I had been based in Cuba.

When the world shut down I returned to Canada and decided to teach myself video. I wanted to share more than just words and photos but to show people the adventures I have learning about food around the world.

I'm not married. I have no kids. But I do have a lot of local friends who help me discover the best local tips.

Traveling Ecuador, Montanita to Baños: Y43 E6

I spent a month teaching yoga, and surfing in Montanita. Then I went to Baños to teach a few workshops, explore waterfalls, hike the mountains, and visit a top-of-the-world Treehouse, complete with zip lines and a swing into the clouds.

I’d like to thank all the friends I met along the way. You guys are what make traveling truly special. Thank you to Selina and Rosa Mistica for giving me work, and a place to live. I’d also like to share my gratitude with all those friends back home whose love and support make this trip possible. It is wonderful to be alive. Thank you all for being such a loving part of this life!

Montanita and Olon, Ecuador Summer 2018

Montanita and Olon, Ecuador. Montanita was fun. There wasn't much to Olon, but overall both were worth the visit. If you want to party then you need to visit Montanita. We never could stay up late enough to hit the clubs, but we were at the bars earlier for the great happy hour deals!

Entry from: Montañita, Ecuador
Entry Title: Bad weather but great fun

Entry:

So we left Quito in the hope of some sun. We took a night bus and arrived in Montanita at about nine the next morning. We were stopped along the way at some point for a police check. The heads on us as we stumbled off the bus but it´s become something of a regular occurance on these bus trips. Girls to the side, boys along the bus. The police go onto the bus, check the storage above the seats, all our hand luggage is checked, we´re frisked and then it´s back onto the bus again.

We arrived into Montanita and found ourselves a hostal and promptly fell asleep for a few hours. Travelling through the night really takes it out of you, even if you manage to fall asleep on the bus it´s never a proper sleep. We took a little wander around Montanita later on that day, it didn´t take us long. There were about four blocks in total to the village with one main street with a bunch of hostels and restaurants and loads of artists selling their jewellery, hair wraps etc. We took a walk along the beach too. It stretches as far as the eye can see up to the left and about two kilometres to the right. There was a point at the end which you can walk on when the tide is out and go around to the next set of beaches but it got a bit wild when the tide was on the way in.

When we woke up the next morning we met the owner, Ricky, a surfer who must have been about forty but who had the body of a twenty something. He offered us a different place to stay just a three minute walk from the village but for the same price. He told us that the village gets a bit crazy at the weekend and that we wouldn´t get a wink of sleep from all the music and the noise during the night. The place was lovely, five little cabins with a bed and a private bathroom, hammock out the front, which Brian was very happy with.....we were moving in. The next day we got company. A couple from Australia and a guy from America they had picked up along the way. There was also another couple from Australia staying in the place and slowly but surely our little community was forming. The Aussies were great craic, one couple more so than the other but we all got on so well. The weather was pants for the whole week and I really don´t think we would have stayed more than a few days if it wasn´t for our little Village.

The boys went fishing a few mornings. Homemade rods made out of empty water bottles and line and weights that they found in some random little shop down in the village. Some days they were successful, other times not but we ate well for the majority of the week. The Village had unused land just outside the front of our houses so the boys got inventive and created a firepit. We had the most amazing meals from that pit. Baked potatoes, steamed fish, freshly caught that morning, and a whole load of grilled vegetables. YUM!!!! And it was so cheap too. One night we fed ten of us for the grand total of $1.10!!!!!! Unbelievable.

Brian took some surf lessons one of the days. I watched from the comfort of the beach. He concluded after about thirty minutes in the water that he was definitely more of a land man. He took the board out one other day but surfing´s definitely not for him. The beach was packed with surfers. They´d come out in their droves as soon as the tide was an hour from full which meant they got about three hours in the water. The place would be deserted until that time of the day and then they´d all just descend on the waves. There were some local kids too who surfed and there was one guy in particular who was just amazing. He was fourteen years old and was already sponsered by all the big names and had one himself a few competitions. He made it look so easy. God only knows if he went to school .... probably not to be fair. Who needs school when you´ve got sponsership and you get to surf the days away to your heart´s content?

All in all Montanita was good to us. The rum was cheap and the company was brilliant. Enevitably though talks of moving on crept up on us. One of the Aussie couples was ...
