Muslim prayer ritual, West Africa village
A minority people group in West Africa perform the Muslim prayer ritual. The Arabic phrase Allah akbar - God is the greatest or God is greater - is called out repeatedly. It is not a prayer to God, but a prayer which says something about God. To these people the performance of this prayer ritual is the most important key to obtaining good merit, which it is hoped God will take into account, and as a result forgive sins. It is said by them to erase sins such as lying, stealing, adultery, etc.

I heard a lot of beautiful call of prayers while traveling in Turkey especially. But this one we heard today was exceptionally beautiful, I don't really know where this is or anything about this Azan in general, but we found it very beautiful and moving in someways.

Barat Night can be translated to acquittal/absolution, Urdu: Shabe Barat in Persian, as well as in Urdu) is a Muslim event, celebrated on the 15th Sha'aban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. The word Barat translation and meaning in English is the quality of being guileless, without guile or deception.Muslims may also fast on this day or the day after. On this night Allah said : ` who wants forgiveness, I will forgive you. Who wants food, I will provide food.` Allah said this over again and again until fajr. The night of Shab-E-Barat also commemorates the entry of Muhammad into the city of Mecca. The festival of Shab-E-Barat is celebrated with pomp and enthusiasm by Muslims all over the world. For, Muslims believe that on the night of Shab-E-Barat God writes the destinies of all men for the coming year by taking into account the deeds committed by them in the past. It is considered one of the holiest nights on the Islamic Calendar.
The night of mid-Sha'aban is known as Laylatul Bara'ah or Laylatun Nisfe min Sha'ban in the Arab world, and as Shab-e-barat in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan and Nepal. These names are translated as 'the night of records', 'the night of assignment' and 'the night of deliverance'. The observance involves a festive nightlong vigil with prayers; in some regions, this is also a night when one's deceased ancestors are commemorated.
Given the importance some Muslims attach to this night, you would be hard pressed to find any strong Hadith that mention this night. In fact you can find evidence in Al Quran on the contrary. There is no clear concept of this night some scholars think that it is right to celebrate this night but some do not as there is nothing much in Quran about this.
Shab-E-Barat means the night of forgiveness or Day of Atonement.
Sunnis observe Mid-Sha'ban as a night of worship and salvation. Various hadiths have been in this regard, some weak and others graded hassan or sahih. Scholars including Imam Shafii, Imam Nawawi, Imam Ghazzali and Imam Suyuti have declared praying on the night of mid shaban as acceptable.
In his Majmu`, Imam Nawawi quoted Imam al-Shafi`i's Kitab al-Umm that there are 5 nights when dua (prayer) is answered, one of them being the night of the 15th of Sha`ban.
The hadith by Imam Ibn Hajr Haythmi, states:Narrated by Muadh bin Jabal (RA) from Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasalam) who said: Allah turns towards his creation in the Night of Mid-Shabaan and He forgives all of them except for a Mushrik and one who hates other people [Az Zawaid #12860]. Classed as Sahih by Salafi scholar Nasiruddin Albani in his silsilah Al-Sahihah.
Another hadith in Musnad Ahmed hanbal Allah looks at His creation during the night of the 15th of Sha'ban and He forgives His servants except two- one intent on hatred (mushanin) and a murderer (qatilu nafs). Classed Hassan by Albani in his silsilah Al-Sahihah.
Hadith classed sahih by Ibn Hibban Allah looks at His creation in the night of mid-Sha`ban and He forgives all His creation except for a mushrik (idolater) or a mushahin (one bent on hatred). [sahih Ibn Hibban 7/470]. Also reported by Tabrani [Al muajamul Kabir 20/108-9] and Al Bayhaqi [Shubul Iman 2/288]
'Aisha is reported to have said that Muhammad said,This is the middle night of Sha'ban. Allah frees in it a large number of the people from the Hellfire, more than the number of the hair growing on the sheep of the tribe, Kalb. But He does not even look at a person who associates partners with Allah, or at a person who nourishes malice in his heart (against another muslim), or at a person who cuts off the ties of womb-relations, or at a man who leaves his clothes extending beyond his ankles (as a sign of pride), or at a person who disobeys his parents, or at a person who has a habit of drinking wine.

Ever since I heard that Hamtramck, Michigan is America's ONLY Muslim-majority town, I knew that I had to visit (because I love Islam!!) And it turned out to be one of the most incredible experiences that I've had within my own country, the United States of America.
My friend @JessicaKobeissi took me around her stomping grounds to introduce me to the culture that she grew up in, and I was completely amazed. So many Lebanese, Iraqis, Yemenis, Bangladeshis, Somalis, Syrians (etc) all living together in this suburban Michigan town called Hamtramck, along with nearby Dearborn.
I went during the very first day of Ramadan - the holiest month in Islam - and I even participated in the fast myself. Watch until the end to see what is breaking the fast (or iftar) at Jessica's friend's house.
The moral of this story is that America is SO BIG and SO DIVERSE, and there are many micro-communities to be discovered. Would you like to see more stories about the different communities in the USA? Tens of thousands of mourners surrounded the Kaaba in Mecca (pictured), Saudi Arabia, to pay tribute to Jamal Khashoggi (inset), who was their countryman and a vocal critic of the Islamist autocracy that governs the state. Muslims prayed at the Grand Mosque today to commemorate the dissident, who was strangled to death according to Turkish officials. The journalist was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. The Islamic kingdom has blamed 'rogue elements' who acted beyond their brief and claims to be putting in measures to ensure such a thing never happens again. But Turkey says that responsibility for the murder lies at the 'highest levels' of the Saudi government as Turkish media claims audio proves the killing was pre-meditated.
