MONUMENT VALLEY | SCENIC DRIVE & SUNRISE (RV AMERICA)

RVing the Southwest has been every bit has breathtaking as we imagined. When you think of the Southwest, Monument Valley likely what comes to mind. In this episode, we stay at Gouldings RV Park just minuets from the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. If you have a National Park Pass, it won’t work here. We paid $20 for our vehicle and it was a 3 day pass, which was perfect to drive the 17 mile “Valley Drive” and we come back to hike the Wildcat trail the next day. We also woke up early to catch the sunrise at “The View” which is the hotel overlooking the park. During the season, you can dry camp at The View RV Park.

Scenic Drive through Monument Valley | The View Campground

In this travel guide video, we discuss what you need to know when traveling to Monument Valley Navajo Nation Tribal Park, such as entrance fees and various accommodations. We also talk about making a reservation for a camping tent site at the View Campground Monument Valley. This campground is located right in front of the iconic canyon views of West Mitten Butte, East Mitten Butte, and Merrick Butte.

Along with the camping tent sites, the campground offers cabins for rent that get sold out very quickly. It is best to make your reservation three to six months in advance, especially during the busy summer season. We also talk about and show footage from the 17-mile Monument valley scenic loop drive. This unpaved picturesque road takes you through the valley and its renowned buttes and mesas as seen in Western movies. The video also includes timelapse videos we recorded during sunrise and sunset in Monument valley.

Visiting the ICONIC Monument Valley! Amazing ARIZONA - USA Road Trip & van life

Planning a trip to Monument Valley? Wondering if the guided tours are worth it? Click here to find out!

Monument Valley is a Navajo Reserve that essentially functions as a National Park. It's located not far from the 'four corners' of Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado. We added to our itinerary after seeing the 'big 5' National Parks in Utah (Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands), because we absolutely fell in LOVE with Utah and the red rocks.

We booked a guided tour from 4:30 - 7:30 pm, which included dinner. Special thanks for Simpson Trailhandler Tours! You can book the same or similar tours here:

There are a bunch of trails that are marked as 'guided tours only', so we would definitely recommend it. The tour guides are Navajo, and speak with great passion and enthusiasm. We learned about the customs, dance, and food of the Navajo. We even saw some 1000+ year old petroglyphs, carved by a tribe of Navajo that averaged 5 feet tall.

We learned a lot, and in the end, we would ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND the guided tours in Monument Valley.

MONUMENT VALLEY Travel Guide

Monument Valley provides the most enduring images of the American West. The Monument Valley is located within the Navajo Nation on the border of Arizona and Utah.

It is characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 300 meters above the valley floor.
In the 1930s, John Ford started filming Westernized movies here, launching the landscape into international fame. The valley has been the backdrop for many movies and advertisements and is a major tourist attraction.

The Worst Way to Visit Monument Valley - TRIPPED S2 E10

The Worst Way to Visit Monument Valley

Hey Tourists! You can’t leave Arizona or Utah and not visit Monument Valley! (Or so we’ve been told). In retrospect, it wasn’t worth the effort to drive out of the way and visit… as we’re finding is more and more the case with places you’re “supposed” to go. It served as the final straw for us doing things we feel we were obligated to do instead of visiting places that we knew would be great.

TRIPPED TRAVEL GEAR
We make and sell travel products on Amazon. They’re totally rad.
Packing Cubes:
Backpack:
UK/Europe Store:

Monument Valley started off poorly when we attempted to stay at The View Campground. Upon arrival, The View was a mess- super busy, understaffed, and poorly organized. The first time we’ve experienced a 20 minute wait just so we could pull into a RV parking spot. After we were already settled we found out they had a no pets policy- something that was neither on their website or confirmation email.

Luckily, one of the perks of being in a RV is that if you don’t like your neighborhood- it’s super easy to move to a new one!

Changing our plan up meant that would also be trying to cram in our photo sesh at the end of the night instead of the next day- which turned out to be another loss! We just made it to the North side of the valley into the iconic location and view just as the sun was setting.

Monument Valley was something Fin had been looking forward to for the entire trip. Luckily, it's one of the things we walked away from feeling underwhelmed even if we had a 10/10 experience.

If Monument Valley is on your bucket list, here’s a few thoughts to make the most out of your experience:
Set aside plenty of time for “The Picture”. The location you need to take the “endless road” photo is swarming with people taking the other photo. To get the photo right you’ll need to spend some time waiting for your turn as the whole group waits for any traffic to get off the road.
“The Picture” is located on the North side of Monument Valley looking South.
There is no nearby BLM for camping- you’ll need to stay at one of the nearby campgrounds.
Super Pro Tip: Don’t get hit by any cars when you’re in the middle of the road getting your picture taken.

RV Cross Country Wedding Trip - Entering The West! Goulding's RV Resort-Monument Valley

Episode 3 and we are leaving Palo Duro Canyon State Park headed to Monument Valley Utah via I-40. We pass through Albuquerque and take a scenic drive along Route 66. The Navajo Nation was under heavy Covid restrictions so we were unable to do everything we wanted to, but it was still a great time!

Experience Monument Valley, the iconic American West. A travel guide.

Monument Valley is a wilderness area in Utah and Arizona with much of the interest centered on the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Visitors pay an entrance fee to enter the park then can drive the Valley Drive in their own vehicle or take one of many tours on offer.

The scenery is spectacular and an overnight stay in a room at the View Hotel, in one of the cabins, or in the RV and camping park is highly recommended if you want to see more than the standard attractions. Take the opportunity to try some Navajo food while there.

????WE MADE IT TO MONUMENT VALLEY & PAGE ARIZONA! ????
Monument valley has been on our bucket list for a long time. This iconic area has appeared in countless movies and tv shows. Think Westword season 1. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to do the full tour of monument valley, so we did a drive-by scenic tour. Even this quick tour of Monument valley was breathtaking. After that we went to Page, AZ known for horseshoe bend, lake Powell, & antelope valley. Page Arizona gave us a lesson in being flexible while traveling. Of all the things we wanted to do in Page, unfortunately we couldn't do most of them. 100 degree weather forced us to adapt and change our plans.

A few tips when making a road trip like this.. Don't try to move too fast! We've made the mistake of packing too much into our schedule.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?: Family is the most important thing in our lives. Unfortunately, due to circumstances, we cannot safely fly across the country to see our family. That's why we BOUGHT AN AIRSTREAM and we're driving across the United States in a socially distanced and safe way! We moved out of our home in Hermosa Beach, California and into a 22' Airstream.

The opportunity of the open road presents a safe, trustworthy, and accessible way for us to quench our sense of adventure and see our families. We are so grateful that you're joining us as we adventure and drive across America, the beautiful!

Thanks for watching! ????You guys rock :) - Scott & Collette
