Taking the Eurostar from London to Paris (Standard Premier Class) ????????

I begin 2023 by taking the Eurostar from London to Paris, showing what the experience is like in Standard Premier Class. It's also my first visit to France's capital city, despite travelling to the country four times!

After arriving in Paris, I take a sneak peek at the Eiffel Tower, before watching PSG at the Parc des Princes, getting the chance to see Messi play live.

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and YouTuber who's been to 60 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017.

I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This marked the start of my efforts to turn vlogging into a full-time job.

After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.

I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.

I've travelled to North America just once as a YouTuber, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.

In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.

I started my travels in 2023 by finally visiting Paris, taking the Eurostar from London.

London to Paris with Eurostar in their Standard Premier class

I've been on Eurostar a number of times, but always in Standard class. Today, as I have a 1st class Interrail pass, I can pay a reasonable supplement to travel in Standard Premier. Is it worth it? Well come along with me to see...

Departure: London St Pancras International, UK
Destination: Paris Gare du Nord
Distance: 492km / 305 miles
Cost with 1st Class Interrail: Supplement €39 for Standard Premier
Cost bought through Eurostar: Prices for Standard Premier range from £97 / €110 to £281 / €319 depending upon how far in advance you book, which day you travel and which train you choose
Date of Travel: March 2023
Operator: Eurostar
Motive power: Eurostar e320 (2011-2018, Siemens)

Eurail/Interrail infos:

If you're booking your journey in advance then buy your tickets directly on thetrainline.com for example.

If you buy the pass and use it to make early reservations (as the eurail advises on their website) the overall cost of the pass+reservations will be more than buying tickets directly, plus, you will be treated as a suspect second class citizen with your reservation marked as Must Show Pass. Another cons to Eurail/Interrail pass when making a reservation is that you have no way to choose your seat. I was always attributed the worst seats when I used it : usually in the 4-block seats facing strangers (often families with children).

If you try to use the pass few days earlier to your journey on high speed trains in Europe, well it says No Seats Available for pass holders. So in all cases the pass isn't worth it neither when booking early nor lately.

My advice is to book the tickets for all your journeys in advance while having a complete control on your attributed seats and saving money.

I travelled on the Eurostar after 19 years! I travelled on the E320 from London to Paris where we changed to the high speed French train, the TGV, to Montpellier.

We travelled on 2 September and bought our tickets about 4-5 weeks before travel via Rail Europe’s website and paid £141~ for a one way ticket.

St Pancras station has something called ‘The Market’ which essentially a shopping hall with M&S, Boots, Pret and many more options! There is a WHSmith for reading/puzzles and a Holland & Barratt for healthy snack options.

Unlike flying, there is no need to do an online check in. It is just a case of packing your bags and heading to the train station. Note, you need to arrive early. Eurostar advise to arrive early, at least 60 minutes before departure and 90 minutes early if you pre-booked special assistance.

Check in and collecting our tickets were easy! After booking via Rail Europe we had QR code tickets which the desk clerk scanned and confirmed that all was okay. We even managed to change our seats last minute to ones that included a table!

You will then pass through security and immigration. You are permitted to pack liquids such as perfume, water and so on. However, if you are taking alcohol then there are some restrictions.

We were sitting in Standard Class (cheapest). There is also Standard Premier and Business Premier – which I cover in the YouTube video. We were very happy with the Standard Class and we had also picked up some goodies beforehand!

Standard Class is in a 2-2 configuration. There are luggage racks at the beginning of the carriage for large suitcases and luggage and smaller items can be stored above the seat.

The seats dimensions are more generous than many economy airline seats!

There are (quite spacious) lavatories on board and a café with some meal deals and options for those with dietary requirements like me – vegan!

The journey takes 2 hours and 16 minutes or so to get to Paris. It is a very smooth and pleasant journey.

When we reached Paris, we were in a mad rush as we didn’t have a lot of time to get to our next station which required us taking the metro for two stops to Paris Lyon where we hopped on board the TGV to Montpellier.

The journey to Montpellier was equally smooth and pleasant. The TGV is a duplex train with two decks – an upper and lower. We were on the upper deck and had some beautiful views!

Both trains had free WIFI and a café.

I would definitely choose this option again as it is very enjoyable with beautiful scenery.

In Montpellier, we stayed at the Courtyard By Marriott. At the time of our stay, I am a Titanium member on the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program. Be sure to check this review out on YouTube at Luxury Vegan Travel which will be posted on 22 September 2023.

Thanks for reading and hope this was helpful.

WORTH THE PRICE? | EUROSTAR e320 Review | London to Brussels in 2 Hours

Today we will be travelling with Eurostar onboard one of their Class 374 e320 high speed trains from London St Pancras to Brussels-Midi/Zuid. The Eurostar for being notoriously expensive - watch until the end to find out how much this ticket cost, and whether I truly think it's a good alternative to the plane.
