Watch the full episode: Being the midpoint between the Slavic, Germanic, and Italian worlds gives Ljubljana a special spice. So, welcome to Ljubljana!
Between Venice and Vienna, the picturesque city of Ljubljana is one of the smallest European capitals.
It’s never crowded – but also never boring since in the city you can find:
- a historical and architectural heritage
- many food surprises to discover
- an exciting mix of different cultural traditions
- and a hub from which to start your biking and hiking tours

Here below are the 10 main attractions of Ljubljana from my point of view!

1/10: Ljubljana Castle
Built in the 11th century, the castle is the main attraction of the city. From here you can get the most beautiful views of the old town.

2/10: The Triple Bridge
The architect Plečnik had a major impact on the modern architecture of Vienna and Prague, and the Triple Bridge, here in Ljubljana, is one of his most famous works.

3/10: Dragon Bridge
The dragon is a symbol of Ljubljana since the late Middle Ages, and this sculpture remarks the connection between the city and the scary animal.

4/10: Tivoli Park
If you want to escape to nature from the center, visit Tivoli Park: the main green area of the city, which goes down from Rožnik hill with so a lot of walking paths.

5/10: Central Market
Also the Central Market was designed by Plečnik, and here you can have a meal and socialize more easily with the locals.

6/10: Prešernov Square with the Franciscan Church
Prešernov Square is the heart of the historic city center. Here you can find the pink façade of the Franciscan Church, which is probably the most iconic image of Ljubljana.

7/10: Italian food market (Italijanska tržnica) on Friday
Not because I wanted to feel at home, but the Italian market is enjoyable to have a snack dancing to the music beat.

8/10: Get lost along the streets of the old town

9/10: Metelkova
Metelkova mesto, an alternative culture center that developed from a squat in a former army barracks and became one of the best-known attractions of Ljubljana.

10/10: Park Špica
It is one of my favorite place in Ljubljana, to relax after a long tourist walk!

SECONDARY ATTRACTIONS

These are the attractions I liked the most about Ljubljana. Other secondary places of interest to me, are: The Cathedral (Church of St. Nicholas), the Town Hall (built in the late 15th century), and The Cukrarna Gallery (a modern exhibition space).

FOOD TIPS
We ate very well in Slovenia and here you’ll find some tips to taste:
- Filana Paprika: stuffed pepper with mashed potatoes
- Try Slovenian pork!
- Prekmurska gibanica: poppyseeds, walnut cream, apple filling

AROUND LJUBLJANA
If you can spend more days in Slovenia, you can be based in Ljubljana to visit many nearby attractions.
- Bike to the Koseze Pond, 4,5 km (2,8 miles).
- And consider that to take a hiking trip Ljubljana is one of the greenest cities in the world: visit Velika Planina, just over 1 hour by car.
- Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle (40 minutes by car).
- Maribor, just over 1 hour by car.

WHY VISIT LJUBLJANA
So, why spend one day or one week visiting Ljubljana?
Medieval streets like Prague, large palaces like Vienna, extraordinary squares like in Italy.
In my opinion, you should come here if you love history and architecture, food, relax and nature.

1) What is a typical Slovenian Hello or Greeting?
2) How would you describe Ljubljana to a foreigner?
3) How would you describe the people from Ljubljana?
4) How would you describe Slovenian Food?
5) How would you describe Slovenian Wine?
6) Why should a tourist come to Ljubljana?
7) What is a typical Slovenian Goodbye?

Ljubljena Ljubljana (HD - dolgi)

Predstavitveni film o Ljubljani - Ljubljena (dolga različica).

BESEDILO PESMI (TEKST: Martin Lunder)
LJUBLJENA

OD NEKDAJ JE BELA VSA
NAVIHANA PLEŠE ČEZ DAN
IMA ČUDOVITE STRANI
PONOČI ŠE LEPŠI PRIDIH

IN LJUBLJENA OSVAJA SVET
MU JEMLJE DIH KAR BREZ BESED

SONCE MIŽIKNE, KO MIMO GRE
DAN JO POZDRAVI Z NASMEHOM
DEŽ JI NADENE RUMEN PLAŠČ
JO SKRIJE POD PUHAST OBLAK

MIMO NAJU TIHO JE ŠLA
JO S POGLEDOM SVA POBOŽALA
ŠEPETALA NAMA JE KAM
LJUBLJENA, VEDNO
LE ZA NAJU LEPA VSA
OBLJUBILA UTRINKE ZA OBA
ZAPISANA V SRCE
LJUBLJENA…MOJA, TVOJA

USTAVI KAZALCE, KO MIMO GRE
NAJU PRIČAKA Z OBJEMOM
BLIŽE, VSE BLIŽE JE VRH NEBA
LJUBLJENA SLIŠI,
DA TJA SE NE SME, DA TJA SE NE SME, A VSEENO GRE

MIMO NAJU TIHO JE ŠLA
JO S POGLEDOM SVA POBOŽALA
ŠEPETALA NAMA JE KAM
LJUBLJENA, VEDNO
LE ZA NAJU LEPA VSA
OBLJUBILA ZVEZDO ZA VSAKEGA
ZAPISALA V SRCE
LJUBLJENA…VAJINA

ZAPISANA V SRCE
LJUBLJENA…TVOJA, MOJA
TVOJA, MOJA

NANANANANAJINA…

Ljubljana In Your Pocket - Hot Horse Horseburger

Eating horses may horrify most British visitors, but that's only because they've watched too much Mr Ed and have never tried it. It's low in fat, rich in proteins and easy to digest - so swap your steed for a car and get grilling. Hot Horse serves healthy horseburgers from a small kiosk in Tivoli Park and just outside BTC.

Ljubljana In Your Pocket - Robba Fountain (Robbov Vodnjak)

One of the most famous landmarks in the city, this lovely 1751 fountain is named after its creator, the Italian Baroque sculptor Francesco Robba (1698-1757), and is also known as The Fountain of Three Carniolan Rivers. It was the last of Robbas Ljubljana creations. The eight years it took him to complete it essentially bankrupted the man, and he finally left the city for Zagreb. Based loosely on the grand fountains of Rome, the artists masterpiece features three river gods, supposedly representing the Krka, Ljubljanica and Sava rivers.

Koper In Your Pocket - Koper, Slovenia Highlights

Follow In Your Pocket's Tanja Trobec wandering around Koper's Old Town, all narrow streets and Venetian-style houses, you could be forgiven that you had indeed crossed the border into Italy. You are as liable to hear Italian spoken as Slovenian, there are Italian signs everywhere, and it's all a reminder that the border between one country and another has never really mattered all that much in these parts. Always something of a blur, it disappeared forever two years ago when Slovenia joined the Schengen block.

Portorož In Your Pocket - Portorož, Slovenia Highlights

In Your Pocket's Tanja Trobec introduces Portorož, Slovenia's coastal clubbing and party town. The poetically named Portorož, or Port of Roses, is home to one of the largest modern marinas on the Adriatic and is the undisputed king of Slovenia's coastal tourism trade. Although it lacks the Venetian old towns that can be found else where along the coast, its numerous hotels, restaurants, conference centres, spas and casinos make it a popular destination for both foreigners and Slovenes, and an excellent base for day trips and excursions farther afield.

Cycling city Ljubljana - Slovenian shared-use in action, Pt2

This is how cycling works in the Slovenian capital. notice how not one pedestrian flinches, or appears to notice the cyclists weaving abound them. no conflict, no aggresion, and in common with almost all real cyclists around the world, NO HELMETS!
Pt2 continues as the lights change, to Preseren Square, and up a main shopping street. This is where the shared-use REALLY gets serious! Again, nobody seems bothered.
