Italy's last independent hill town, San Marino, still looks formidable, as does the castle-guarded principality of Liechtenstein. And amid the rugged beauty of the Pyrenees, tiny Andorra draws shoppers and hikers alike. #ricksteves #ricksteveseurope

Europe | The Vatican City

Here is the first video in the Europe series! It was an amazing experience getting to see all this stuff in real life, and I just wanted to show you just a little bit of the grandeur that is the Vatican City.

Stay tuned for the rest of the series coming this summer!

Vatican City with Kids/We Visited the Worlds Smallest Country!

While Vatican City is the world's smallest country, the Vatican Museum is enormous (and we know keeping kids occupied, learning, and having fun can in a never-ending museum is almost impossible)! Check out our long day at the Vatican and the little tricks we found out along the way to make it fun (or at least doable) for our kiddos. Plus wait to the end to see how we rewarded our efforts.

Visiting Italy. A Little Look at the Vatican

A week spent in Naples and Rome saw us enjoying the Amalfi Coast. Visiting the outlying sights of Mount Vesuvius, the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum was incredible. We landed at NAP Naples International Airport, Italy, and made our way by airport shuttle bus to the town where we set off to enjoy our first neoploitan Pizza Margherita. Walkinga round for a few days we visited the Galeria Umberto 1, the duomo, royal palace, castel nuovo, piazza del plebiscito, ovo castle, The magnificent Naples archeological museum, and castel sant elmo bedore taking an early morning train to Rome for the colosseum, trevi fountain, sistine chapel, pantheon, st peters basilica and st peters square, the roman forum, spanish steps, palatine hill, circus maximus, trajans column, trajans forum, arch of constantine and of course got all Catholic in the Vatican where the Pope lives. Rome was marvellous, Naples was awful, pizza was incredible!

The Vatican City and Rome | ITALY PART 3 | The Beck Fam Visits Europe

Last but not least, we have Part 3 of our 3-part Italian adventures! In this one we make our way over to Rome and visit country number 24, The Vatican City. In Rome we did an AMAZING food tour, devouring some of the city’s most famous and delicious treats. We of course also visited the Colosseum, because how can you go to Rome and not stop by? The sun was intense, but that didn’t stop the boys from having a little gladiator fight in the middle of the arena. Rome wasn’t our only destination on this stop though, we also spent a morning in The Vatican. The smallest country in the world, and yet SO much to see and learn about. We did breakfast on the premises and had a private tour guide show us around. The history was rich and the art was beyond stunning. We all had our favorite parts, but I think we can agree that the Sistine Chapel Ceiling by Michelangelo was 100% worth the hype. We ended our time at the Vatican by popping in to Saint Peter’s Basilica, a massive church that is still in use today.

As a quick round-up, we have... Dad- Tim, Mom- Tamara, Sister- Haylie. We have been living in the UK for just about 3 years now and we finally are able to show everyone why we love living overseas SO much!!

Missed Part 1?:
Missed Part 2?:

In Part 2/3, we continued our Italian adventures in Positano and the Amalfi Coast! We’ve heard great things about both tourist hotspots, and still can’t decider which one you should go to. Both are unique and gorgeous through and through. Our stay was a beautiful resort right on the water where we could wake up to the ocean crashing along the coastline down below. But it wasn’t all relaxation and soaking in the sun, we took a little limoncello tour on an actual authentic lemon farm, where we learned the process of making the famous drink and also how to make mozzarella! We spent some time in both Positano and Amalie city centers, eating some amazing food and trying out the local wines. Mostly we hung out at the hotel’s private beach and enjoyed a bit of a rest in the middle of the chaos. This location was a dream holiday, it was a little hard to say goodbye and move on, but we had Rome ahead of us and so much more to do! Traveling with the Griswolds has been an adventure and a half and we are only 2/3 done!

In Part 1/3, We started our vlog in Venice, Italy. Venice was hot as can be but gorgeous beyond belief. Every square inch from the pizza to the city streets were pretty brought to be photographed and framed. We spent our time eating our way from one side of the city to the other. Italian food ranks amongst the Becks’ highest treasures and they were not wasting any opportunities to enjoy the cuisine! Pizza, pasta, and gelato flavored our days (and nights and snacks). But have no fear, we also took a gondola ride, water taxi, food tour, photo shoot, and had our fair share of wine. To top things off, we stayed at the breathtaking Danieli. Not a bad way to start out Italian excursions!

What you don’t see in this video is us touring the family around London! Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, Tower Bridge, hop-on hop-off tours, London Eye, Sky Garden, and so so much more! We didn’t film any of this outing, but follow us on Instagram to see all the photos and just how much they loved England!

Tell us, where, in Europe, should we try and go to next! What would you like us to share? What did you think of the video? Leave a comment, like, and subscribe for more!!

The Vatican / Vaticano in Rome / Roma, Italy / Italia

Rome / Roma, Italy / Italia, The Italian Republic / Repubblica Italiana, Europe

Rome is the capital city of Italy / Roma Capitale Italia

Vatican City / Città del Vaticano is a walled enclave within the city of Rome. Within Vatican City are cultural sites such as St. Peter's Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. They feature some of the world's most famous paintings and sculptures.

St. Peter's Basilica is the burial site of its namesake St. Peter, one of the Apostles of Jesus Christ and, also according to tradition, the first Pope and Bishop of Rome.

Pope Francis ( Jorge Mario Bergoglio ) the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church began his Papacy on March 13th 2013

Rome's history spans more than two and a half thousand years. While Roman mythology dates the founding of Rome at only around 753 BC, the site has been inhabited for much longer, making it one of the oldest continuously occupied sites in Europe.

Rome today is one of the most important tourist destinations of the world, due to the incalculable immensity of its archaeological and artistic treasures, as well as for the charm of its unique traditions, the beauty of its panoramic views, and the majesty of its magnificent villas (parks).

My husband and I went on our first Europe Tour. The tour included St. Peter’s Basilica, St. Peter’s Dome, Tombs of the Popes and Vatican Museums. We took this tour in English (Spanish is available). We purchased this tour on the Viator website came out to $220 for two adults. We were running a little late so the tour was going fast but we still enjoyed it! We did had to go back to St. Peter’s Basilica to tour it at our own pace.
