San Marino Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

San Marino – With an area of just over 20 square miles, join us as we explore Europe’s third smallest country. Make no mistake, there’s no shortage of cool spots to check out.

When ready, browse vacation packages to San Marino:

Find the longstanding city-state, #SanMarino, in eastern Italy’s countryside. A #vacation here means enjoying age-old architecture, excellent food, and shopping delights.

Rising from the republic’s rolling hills is Mount Titano, where the country’s founder, Saint Marinus, sought refuge in the 3rd Century. Over the centuries, three towers were built to ward off invaders; today these towers watch over a country overflowing with history, culture and beauty.

Just beyond the towers lies the republic’s ancient capital, San Marino City. The heart and soul of this city is Liberty Square, home to the Statue of Liberty and the Palazzo Pubblico. Wherever you turn you’ll see tributes to the republic’s founder, no more so than in San Marino Basilica, where the bones of the saint now rest beneath the altar.

San Marino is a welcoming escape for lovers of art and history, and a tax-free haven for shoppers.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

A Trip to SAN MARINO - 5th smallest country in the world [4K]

A Trip to San Marino, the 3rd smallest country in Europe in 4K UltraHD.

San Marino, also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino, is one of the wealthiest countries in the world in terms of GDP (per capita), comparable to the most developed European regions. San Marino is considered to have a highly stable economy, with one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, no national debt and a budget surplus. San Marino has the world's highest rate of car ownership, being the only country with more vehicles than people.

San Marino is one of only 3 countries in the world to be completely surrounded by another country (the others being Vatican City, also surrounded by Italy, and Lesotho, surrounded by South Africa). It is the third smallest country in Europe, after Vatican City and Monaco, and the fifth smallest country in the world.

San Marino is a mountainous microstate surrounded by north-central Italy. Among the world’s oldest republics, it retains much of its historic architecture. On the slopes of Monte Titano sits the capital, also called San Marino, known for its medieval walled old town and narrow cobblestone streets. The Three Towers, castlelike citadels dating to the 11th century, sit atop Titano’s neighbouring peaks.

San Marino is an independent mountainous microstate surrounded by Italian territory. Among the world’s oldest republic, it retains much of its historic architecture. The city was founded by Saint Marinus and several Christian refugees in the year 301. Its area is about 61.2 km square. Its flag has two colors – sky blue represents the “sky” and white represents “ snow/ice”. The three towers are also prominent on the flag.
On the mountain’s eastern ridge, a path links three towers, part of the city’s ancient defensive system. These include the Castello della Guaita, a small fortress with crenellated walls enclosing a watchtower. On the slope of Monte Titano sits the capital which is known for its medieval walled old town and narrow cobblestone streets.
More than three million people per year visit the city out of which 85% are Italian and developed as a tourist center. Cars are prohibited in much of the town center. It is the smallest country amongst the members of UN. Its also a member of European Union. Its GDP is 2.1 billion dollars, out of which 2.4% is spent on education, 0.2% on agriculture and 6.1% on health. There is no airport, no college, no university except High school.
San Marino do no accept dual nationality. Females have more rights than males. San Marino has scenic beauty and a beautiful place to visit.

SAN MARINO travel tips - facts and guide to this tiny and amazing country!

Read More:

San Marino is one of the smallest countries in the world and the least visited in Europe but here are some interesting facts and regions to visit this republic!

For such a minuscule country, San Marino provides a fascinating collection of unique facts, outstanding views and an impressive history. Given its size though, many people opt to take just a day trip to San Marino from one of it’s neighbouring Italian cities and not spend a night or more getting to know it.

As the fifth smallest country in the world, and surrounded by Italy, it’s easy to see how San Marino could merely be a novelty country tick while travelling around the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. But I for one think that this micro-state deserves at least one night of your vacation.

Why DON'T People Visit SAN MARINO? A Hidden Gem of Europe

I visited the world's fifth smallest country, San Marino, and explored everything there is to do in this hidden gem of Europe.

Just around 33 500 people live in San Marino, at an area of 61 square kilometers. It's one of three countries in the world that's completely landlocked inside another country. The other two are the Vatican and Lesotho - but this is definitely the most beautiful of the landlocked countries.

The most famous landmark of San Marino is probably the three towers located on the three peaks of Mount Titano, which is where the capital of San Marino is also located. The three towers are called Guaita, Cesta and Montale. Montale, the third tower, is not open to the public, but the other two are well worth a visit.

I also explore other things to do in San Marino, ranging from getting a San Marino visa at an exporbitant cost, looking at the Basilica di San Marino, looking at the different museums in the city, such as the impressive State Museum, and watching the changing of the guard at Piazza della Liberta, by the Palazzo Pubblico.

The Palazzo Pubblico also serves as San Marino's town hall, and it's an absolutely gorgeous place that's lit up at night.

Aside from beautiful views this video also dives into the history of San Marino, and various other places to visit, like Borgo Maggiore, a nearby town. There's surprisingly lot ot see in such a small country, so I hope you will find this interesting!

San Marino,

Family Travel Vlog also see

In July 2020. My family visited San Marino. It is a small republic situated on the slopes of Mount Titano, on the Adriatic side of central Italy between the Emilia-Romagna and Marche regions and surrounded on all sides by the republic of Italy.

It is the smallest independent state in Europe after Vatican City and Monaco. San Marino: According to legend, San Marino was founded by the national saint Marinus (in Italian: San Marino) in 301 AD. The historic city centres of the capital, Monte Titano and the castle district of Borgo Maggiore were declared World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 2008.

We visited Rocca Guaita (or The First Tower) which is the most iconic of San Marino‘s three impressive fortresses located on the peaks Mt Titano.
Castello Cesta (The Second Tower)This tower is must visit for military geeks or children still enchanted by knights and soldiers.
Montale
The Third Tower: Montale is the smallest of the three towers and dates back to the end of the 13th century.

People who are from San Marino are called Sammarinese
Italy is the principal language spoken although Romagnol, an Emilio-Romagna dialect is also spoken
San Marino is not part of the European Union but uses the Euro as its currency.

We had dinner at Restaurant Pizzeria Nido del Falco. It is situated on top of the San Marino city centre.
Good food at reasonable prices.
The view over the valley was stunning
The staff super friendly. Later we enjoyed drinks and danced to Jerusalema (master kg) Song at RESTAURANT PIZZERIA
The Spingarda.

They have an enchanting panorama, here at the Spingarda, you will go and taste traditional dishes in typical Romagna style
