Island of Guam, Pacific Ocean - the second world war (WW2) Japanese headquarters during battle of Guam. Let's go for a brief tour inside (and above) the second world war (WW2) Japanese headquarters location and communications center, used during the battle of Guam, in the island of Guam in the Western Pacific Ocean. The WW2 Japanese headquarters in Guam is a very historic place indeed, let's do it!! Battle of Guam, (21 July–10 August 1944), World War II event. In attacking Guam, U.S. forces were not only acquiring a fine harbor and a number of airfields to use in future operations, but were also liberating U.S. territory—Guam had been captured by the Japanese in 1941. As elsewhere, Guam’s Japanese garrison fought practically to the last man. American casualties included some 1,700 dead and 6,000 wounded; Japanese deaths totaled some 18,000.
Guam is a U.S. island territory in Micronesia, in the Western Pacific. It's distinguished by tropical beaches, Chamorro villages and ancient latte-stone pillars. Guam’s WWII significance is on view at the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, whose sites include Asan Beach, a former battlefield. The island’s Spanish colonial heritage is evident in Fort Nuestra Señora de la Soledad, atop a bluff in Umatac.
