Strait of Gibraltar Pillars of Hercules Rock of Gibraltar

The Pillars of Hercules (Latin: Columnae Herculis, Greek: Ἡράκλειοι Στῆλαι, Arabic: أعمدة هرقل‎, Spanish: Columnas de Hércules) was the phrase that was applied in Antiquity to the promontories that flank the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar. The northern Pillar is the Rock of Gibraltar (now part of the British overseas territory of Gibraltar). A corresponding North African peak not being predominant, the identity of the southern Pillar has been disputed throughout history,[1] with the two most likely candidates being Monte Hacho in Ceuta and Jebel Musa in Morocco.

Gibraltar: The Rock

More info about travel to the Costa del Sol: The Rock of Gibraltar stands like a fortress at the gateway to the Mediterranean. With its strategic setting, Gibraltar has an illustrious military history and remnants of its martial past are everywhere. But within a generation the economy has gone from one dominated by the military to one based on tourism.

Strait of Gibraltar: 30 Knots of WIND and 15 foot SEAS

We finally depart Cascais and set sail for Gibraltar. Despite an aggravated sea state and strong winds, we decide to leave. The wind is increasing steadily and is on our nose out of the East. We make a decision to head for Barbate on the Spanish coast to wait for better weather. On arrival I dive under the boat to see what the problem is with our prop and discover a fishing net tangled up in the prop. Gene and I take turns cutting away the net. An hour later the prop is clear and fortunately not damaged. Several days later we decide to proceed through the straits of Gibraltar and continue on to Almerimar a Spanish port for a short stay and then procced to Cartagena.

SAILING LIFE - SERIOUS Boat Traffic in the STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR - Ep. 23

In this episode of Sailing Zephyr - SAILING LIFE - SERIOUS Boat Traffic in the STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR - Ep. 23 - we leave CADIZ behind after just two days! We have a small weather window that creeps up on us fast to get through the Strait of Gibraltar and we can’t afford to miss it! So we venture in thick fog (our first time sailing in fog) and contend with a TON of boat traffic in the Strait. I spot two sunfish as we make our way to Gibraltar Bay to anchor for the night! This makes my day!

Early the next morning we leave for Malaga where my Dad joins us aboard Zephyr and we begin coast hopping to Valencia.

Hope you enjoy the video!

GIBRALTAR FROM ABOVE - Passing the Strait of Gibraltar

#gibraltar #scenic #birdsview

Hey guys,

it´s time for the next and last video in 2021. This time passing overhead the straits of Gibraltar. This is a narrow strait that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea and seperates the european continent from Africa. On the northern side of the Strait are Spain and Gibraltar (a British overseas territory), while on the southern side are Morocco and Ceuta (Spain). The minimum width is only 13 km while the deepest point is 900 meters.

Severe Storm at the Spain & Gibraltar Coast, High Waves, Tide and Damage done Night of 4 April, 2022

A sever storm blew into Gibraltar and La Linea Spain on Monday April 4 2022. Little did the citizens of this small Spanish community know how much damage this storm would cause.

Flooding damaged the main highway through the town as well as the main walkway along the sea. Boulders and sea walls were smashed and over turned. Make sure to subscribe to see the next video that features the aftermath of the destruction!
