How Safe Is Honduras for Travel?

Full safety review:

Honduras is the second biggest country in Central America.

It shares borders with Guatemala to the northwest, El Salvador to the south, and Nicaragua to the southeast.

It boasts natural beauties, colonial villages (Gracias, Comayagua), a breathtaking history that can be experienced during a visit to the ancient Maya ruins, natural parks, both Pacific and Caribbean coastline, and the Bay Islands, that are basically just jaw-dropping beaches offering world-class snorkeling and diving.

Experiencing the coral reefs in the Caribbean paradise of Bay Islands: Utila, Roatán, Guanaja, and the Hog Islands is an exceptional adventure.

Visit the impressive ancient Maya civilization in Copán and marvel at its sculptures that are world-known for their quality.

Overall Honduras is somewhat safe to visit, though it has many dangers. You should be aware that tourist hotspots, public transportation and some streets are places where most thefts and pickpocketing occur, and that violent crime exists on the streets, too.

Roatan Honduras: Top Tips For Travelers

I’m sure you have heard of Honduras, but not many people think about it as a vacation destination. Roatan Honduras is one of my favorite places to visit on any Western Caribbean cruise itinerary and I want to show you why.
We have been to Roatan Honduras before, and it quickly became one of our favorite places to visit. The people here are so friendly and welcoming. We sailed in on Princess Cruise Line for this visit so we ported at Mahogany Bay. This port is the newest and largest of the two cruise ports. During our trip to Roatan we visited a few great places that we highly recommend. One of the is Arch's Iguana Reserve. If you want to see a lot of iguanas and get up close to them, this is a great place to do so. The other place is Manawakiee Park, where you can interact with monkeys, sloths, and birds. This is a great place with friendly staff.

Honduras Travel Tips after COVID // what to expect & how to prepare

Explaining my experience traveling to Utila, Honduras and living here for the past month and a half in the wake of COVID.

Coming to Utila was STRESSFUL, I had no idea what conditions were like, how people were handling COVID, and what the conditions in airports were going to be like if I wasn't fully prepared. On my way to the island, I wanted to make sure there was no chance of me getting stranded halfway, or even just at the airport upon entering the country.

In this video I walk through how I prepared for a seamless trip to the country (from the United States), conditions during travel, and what the experience has actually been like here.

!DISCLAIMER!
This video is strictly speaking from my experience! Please do lots of your own research looking at local and national guidelines for COVID & traveling regulations/restrictions, things are still changing fast and the last thing you want is to be stranded somewhere after only listening to a YouTube video thinking things would go the same for you as they did for me :-).

Best of luck in your travels and thank you for watching!

Transportation Around the Island: If you plan to stay in any place away from the town center, then it is highly recommended you find a good tuk tuk driver and get his whatsapp contact information. A tuk tuk driver can be hired for about $20+ a day (prices have gone up with more travelers) and this will allow you to get a ride anytime, get your errands done and it is a lot cheaper than buying per trip ($7-$15 per trip). For TukTuk Driver and Water Taxi recommendations, leave a comment below.

Scuba Diving
There are ample diving sites all around the island and for the most part, the water currents are mild and safe. Some of the diving companies that operate on the island that you may want to consider include: Utila Dive center, Alton’s dive center, Gunter’s ecomarine dive center, and Parrots dive shop.

Restaurants
The two most recommended places are Mango Tango and El Castillo. Other places to eat include Che Pancho, Mario’s Place, Rio coco Cafe and Hot spot Cafe. Breakfast is usually under $5 and you can have a decent lunch/supper for $10-$15.

Is Honduras SAFE to Visit?! - and Even Worth Visiting???

After spending some time in Honduras, many people have asked me: Is Honduras safe to visit?! And even worth visiting???

The country, which is flanked by the Caribbean in the north, lends itself to some incredible nature including world-renowned scuba diving.

Dangers and annoyances, however, including being known as one of the “murder capitals” of the world have given the Latin American country a bad rap.

Check out this vid to see if you should head to Honduras or not!

Couchsurf Honduras | SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER | Ep. 52 | Tegucigalpa

This is why you want to couchsurf ! Although some people ask me whether it is safe to couchsurf in Honduras / Central America / Latin America as a solo female traveler, I believe that by carefully selecting a well reviewed host, you can have the best time exploring a foreign country! What made backpacking and traveling in Central America amazing for me was couchsurfing and hanging out with the locals. Especially in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, I had the best experience couchsurfing with Marlon and his friends. I really saw what his life was like and I got to explore both Tegucigalpa and the nightlife of Tegucigalpa with my couchsurfing host and his friends. I was pleasantly surprised with Tegucigalpa and would recommend you backpackers to visit it! From all the Central American countries so far (starting from Mexico down till Honduras), Tegucigalpa was my favourite of all the Central American capital cities so far. It was really modern and had even a European hipster twist to it.

#4 - How to Travel Wallet Safe / Honduras: A cautionary tale

Continue reading here:

What did I learn in Honduras?

1) Never separate yourself from your credit cards or important documents. Hotel-room safes can be reset by hotel staff, so not all of these safes are necessarily trustworthy.
2) Scan your passport and keep in your phone and computer, and email to family or friends. Do same with air reservation numbers, driver's license and credit cards you plan to bring with you.
3) Make sure your personal property insurance, or credit card company, covers for loss or theft abroad.
