Driving in the Faroes

Guide to driving in the Faroe Islands:

Exploring the Faroe Islands’ beautiful landscapes by car, campervan or motorcycle is a popular way to get around. Most islands are connected by an excellent infrastructure of roads, bridges and subsea tunnels, making it effortless to travel by car.

Driving is on the right and most road signs follow inter-national standards. The use of seat belts is required. The speed limit is 50 km in the towns and villages and 80 km on the main roads. For cars with trailers, the speed limit is 50 kph and for caravans the speed limit is 70 kph. The consequences for speeding are severe. Parking in the towns of Klaksvík, Tórshavn, Runavík and the Airport is restricted.

Parking discs must be displayed in the lower right hand corner of the front windscreen showing the time you parked your car. These display discs are available at no charge from banks and the tourist offices. There is a fine of DKK 200 for parking violations.

Head-lights must be on when driving and seat belts fastened.

As you drive along, please be aware that the sheep may be startled and leap out in front of you. If you happen to collide with a sheep, immediately contact the police in Tórs-havn at tel 351448 for assistance.

The Faroe Islands Guide | An Amazing Tunnel System | Vestmanna Cliffs

Welcome to Day 5 of My Adventures around the Faroe Islands. In this video you will get a feel of the amazing tunnel network built there. The Faroese went from cutting some of their drives down from hours to mere minutes. Find out and see. Did you know they even built a roundabout 600ft or roughly 185 meters below the surface of the sea? Amazing engineering!
Also in this video I will be taking a sea journey from Vestmanna to see the amazing cliffs nearby.

Lastly stay until the end to see an amazing dinner and then sunset!

You don't want to miss the beauty!

How Good is Public Transport in The Faroe Islands? I'll try as many modes as I can in a Single Day.

I arrived in The Faroe Islands with no intention of hiring a car or taking an official tour, but would this really be possible? Join me in Tórshavn as I set out on a day of adventure. The challenge will be to try as many different modes of transport as I can so if you fancy seeing how I got on and what sights I saw along the way, let's get on the road!

Filmed in The Faroe Islands on Tuesday 13th June 2023.

I don’t pretend to be a travel expert, but I love what I do and would be honoured if you came along with me. My channel focusses on the wide-eyed wonder and excitement of finding somewhere new, and my genuine reaction to it. You might not get a history lesson in my videos, but who knows, you might pick up some useful travel tips along the way, add a few destinations to your bucket list and hopefully be entertained by what you see. Thanks for watching, it means a lot to me :)

I do ALL of this myself. Planning, filming, editing, promoting, all with a weekly upload schedule, so please understand not every video will be an epic adventure. But my pledge is to always do my best in any situation.

FAQs:
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I was born in Glasgow but have lived in Carnoustie, Dalgety Bay, Stonehaven, Edinburgh, Montrose, and further afield (Salamanca, Spain & Devonport, New Zealand)
WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE DESTINATION?
This can be difficult to pinpoint as I get most pleasure from visiting new places (and often that will be somewhere I've never even heard of). But to try and categorise it, I'd say take me to a small, cold island somewhere the beer is not too expensive and I'll be happy. Any suggestions?
WHEN DO YOU UPLOAD?
Saturdays at 10am Scottish time. Occasionally a bonus midweek video will pop up.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
I film with a GoPro11 and my iPhone12. I edit on iMovie and use epidemicsound.com for music. I also use canva.com for thumbnails etc.
WHY DON'T YOU SPEND LONGER AT DESTINATIONS?
The usual suspects I'm afraid - time and money! Hotels especially these days make my eyes water like a true Scotsman.
WHERE'S ALICJA?
Alicja will feature as often as possible, but I'm afraid she has a proper job so it can take weeks for our schedules to match up.
DO YOU PAY FOR YOUR OWN TRAVEL?
Yes I do. I've only ever accepted a complementary ticket as compensation for a previous problem. All my opinions are frank and honest reflections of travel as I experience it.
CAN I CONTACT YOU?
I used to list my email address but felt bad not having the capacity to respond to everything so took it down (and I got a LOT of spam so missed many genuine messages along the way).
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE CHANNEL?
Watching my videos is of course support enough, but if you'd like to support further, I'll pop links below for Paypal and Patreon. All kind donations are super-appreciated and will go 100% towards future filming trips.
DO YOU ACCEPT SPONSORSHIPS?
I don't like to upset the flow of my videos, so I don't even include mid-roll ads anymore (at significant loss of income to myself), so I prefer not to include sponsorships either. I'm open to a small slide at the start/end of each video, but I don't want to get into talking about products, it's something I don't like as a viewer myself (especially as a viewer who pays for YouTube Premium). So it's probably a polite no, although all of this goes out the window if you offer me something which can give me the chance to make a video for my audience that would otherwise be impossible.

Donate here to future videos: (thank you!)

Faroe Islands Tunnel Road Trip

Faroe Islands: Inside the undersea tunnel network

In the Faroe, the tunnels network connect the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy in a network of around 11km long.

The lowest point of the tunnel is 187m below sea level.

The roundabout in the middle of the network contains artwork by Trondur Patursson, obviously a Faroese artist.
