Guatemala Medical Tourism Destination & Employer-Sponsored MEDICAL TRAVEL options for US Employees
Positive feedback of Miami’s Latino Community leaders about Guatemala’s private medical services with prices 60% to 70% lower than in the U.S. but with similar high quality of care, as an option for elective surgeries and medical/dental treatments. The Guatemalan Consulate together with members of Guatemala’s Health & Wellness Tourism sector jointly organized this P.R. event at the SOFITEL Miami to present Guatemala as medical travel destination to business and Community leaders of South Florida. The luncheon was sponsored by the Guatemala tourist Board (INGUAT), the Guatemalan Exporters Association (AGEXPORT) and the Trade and Investment Program of the Guatemalan Ministry of Economy (PACIT).
This was the first time that Keith Johnson, Corporate Healthcare Consultant to Guatemala and President of Stop-Loss Brokerage, introduced the “Latin American Preferred Health Plan” (LAPHP) to the Guatemalan business Community of Florida. During the same event, attendees were able to network with U.S.-Guatemalan Physicians, Guatemalan Specialists in cosmetic and rehabilitative dentistry and with the managers of Travel Agency “ConExpress”, Hot-Springs Spa Resort “Santa Teresita” and Medical Travel Facilitator “Medical Tourism Guatemala”, all active members of the Guatemalan Exporters Association who have partnered with U.S.-based insurance organizations via Stop-Loss Brokerage to promote a U.S. corporate health plan (= LAPHP) designed to offer to employees a medical travel option to Guatemala’s private medical network, allowing significant savings in claims on elective surgical and medical procedures, while maintaining permanent access to a U.S. medical network.

On today's episode we're heading to Antigua Guatemala, to chow down on some delicious street food during SEMANA SANTA, which is the week leading up to Easter Sunday in Spanish culture. You've never seen a street food tour like this one! Join me as we delve into 8 unique Guatemalan and Central American delicacies, and feast on foods like bufalos, enchiladas, tacos de papa, elote, churros, lemonade, chile relleno, and rellenitos!
Our entire foodie adventure takes place in front of the Iglesia De La Merced, which is where the majority of the street food vendors set up shop. This church is incredibly beautiful, and people from all over the world come here to celebrate the holiday. The streets today are packed with tourists, and local Guatemalan's, but because this video is being filmed during a global health crisis, many events have been canceled, or greatly reduced. This is the second year in a row where attendance has been much lower than in years past. As always, I take ALL safety measures to ensure the continued health of myself and those around me.

107 - Can tourism help communities? Corazon del Bosque, Guatemala. Giving nature back to people.
The community side of tourism intrigues me. Can tourism really help local communities and bring them benefits? So far, I have found the answer to be yes - but that there is no 'one size fits all' approach. The way tourism can benefit local communities depends on the place and the people.
I've been volunteering at Corazon del Bosque in Solola, Guatemala. Here I've been learning all about how they use their local environment for the benefit of the local community, whilst also protecting and nurturing that same environment. Corazon del Bosque is a community effort in eco-tourism, in sustainable forest management and in human-environment interaction. It's a very different type of tourism than what I have been experiencing so far. And I've learnt so much from my time here.
