I flew from Iceland to Greenland on the world's longest Dash 8-200 flight (3 hours, 15 minutes)
Air Greenland serves Keflavík International Airport from Nuuk, the capital of Greenland (pop. 19,694). The airline is owned by the Greenlandic Government, and it operates a fleet of 28 aircraft: one A330neo used for transatlantic and charter flights, 9 propeller aircraft primarily serving the domestic network, and 19 helicopters that serve the remote settlements within Greenland and its rugged coastline.
Although Air Greenland's headquarters are in Nuuk, its main hub is located at Kangerlussuaq Airport. This small port city currently has the longest runway and the most reliable weather for the airline's daily jet flight to Copenhagen. This will all change in a few years when Nuuk Airport expands its runway to 6,560ft and constructs a brand new terminal. Concerns about Nuuk's unpredictable and often foggy weather are high, but Greenland wants to put Nuuk on the world map however it can.

The World's Strangest International Airport - Kangerlussuaq, Greenland (Cultural Travel Guide)
Kangerlussuaq has a fascinating history and an uncertain future. The former US airbase of Sondrestrom is currently the hub of Air Greenland's network and the only airport in the country that can accommodate the Airbus A330 that flies the daily lifeline link to Copenhagen. A small town of around 500 people services the airport, far from the major urban centres of Greenland. Local tour operators provide options for transiting passengers that include searching for musk oxen and driving to the ice cap. However, all that is about to change as new international airports are scheduled to open in Nuuk and Ilulissat in 2024. The future for Kangerlussuaq's airport and, more importantly, for its residents, is very much in doubt.

Transatlantic on the Dash 8! Nuuk–Kulusuk–Keflavik
In this video we take the Air Greenland Dash 8-200 flight from Nuuk (GOH) to Reykjavik's Keflavik Airport (KEF) via Kulusuk (KUS), a gravel runway nestled in the mountains of East Greenland. See the long sunrise give way to a long sunset over three and a half hours of Dash 8 flying, the second part of which is over open ocean to Iceland. Along the way we get a look at the Nuuk fjords and surrounding mountains, wide vistas of the Greenland ice sheet (we even spot a Cold War era DYE radar station!), the mountains of East Greenland and the most productive glacier on the island, the stunning moon over Kulusuk and a Bell 212 about to take off there (not to mention some polar bear skins), and we perform a lovely dusk landing into Keflavik. This was one of the most stunning flights ever!

When you arrive at Nuuk International Airport, you'll be happy to know that it's definitely NOT as hectic an experience as landing in London, Paris or New York. And it's pretty chillled getting from the airport into town too!
Flying Air Greenland from Kangerlussuaq to Nuuk via Maniitsoq
Welcome to another trip report!
On August 20, I flew Air Greenland from Kangerlussuaq, GL to Nuuk, GL through Maniitsoq, GL. Nuuk is the capital and largest city in Greenland with over 17,000 residents. Air Greenland (previously known as Greenlandair) is the flag carrier and only airline based in Greenland. They operate a fleet of 32 aircraft and are owned by the Greenlandic Government. Besides running scheduled services and government-contracted flights to most villages in the country, they also support remote research stations and provide charter services for tourists and Greenland's energy and mineral-resource industries along with medivac operations during emergencies. They technically have seven subsidiaries: the airline, hotels, tour operators, a travel agency specialized in Greenlandic tourism, and the Arctic Umiaq Line, an unprofitable but government-subsidized ferry service that I am interested in doing a video on in the near future.
On our way, we had a quick stop in Maniitsoq to drop off and pick up some passengers. Maniitsoq is the 6th largest town in Greenland with 2,670 residents.

Nuuk, The tip, is the capital and largest city of Greenland, and the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. Nuuk has a population of 15469, making Nuuk one of the smallest capital cities in the world by population!
Air Greenland - A330 800neo - Business Class - Kangerlussuaq (SFJ) to Copenhagen (CPH) | TRIP REPORT
I recently flew on Air Greenland's newest aircraft to experience its Premium cabin with snowy landscapes and friendly Danish hospitality.
Air Greenland is owned by the Greenlandic government, but realistically it's a heavily Danish-influenced airline with mostly European executives. The airline has played a pivotal role in connecting the vast and unpredictable landscapes of Greenland for decades as the autonomous territory of Denmark has no roads outside of town limits. Aviation serves as a lifeline for remote communities, especially those without access to harbors. SAS and a Danish mining company founded the airline as Grønlandsfly in 1960.
The A330-800neo has been a slow seller as only 7 have been built so far. But the shortened widebody fits Air Greenland's future plans to connect the capital city Nuuk's short-runway and Copenhagen while being stuffed with cargo. It replaced the airline's previous jet (an old A330-200 nicknamed Norsaq). Passenger comfort was decreased in the new high-density jet, and the quality in Premium class also decreased poorly. I was disappointed in the undercooked food, lack of hot towels, and reduced personal touch (even though prices were increased 2x).

Nuuk to Kangerlussuaq with Air Greenland - 4K
In this video, I take a domestic hop with Air Greenland from their headquarters in Nuuk to their *current* international hub located in Kangerlussuaq. The flight is on board the backbone of the airline's domestic fleet, the Dash-8~200, a fun aircraft that speaks for itself.

Air Greenland's aircraft were the first to take off and land on the first stage of Nuuk Airport's new runway, which went into service today, Thursday 3 November. We were there for the take off and landing in Nuuk.
