GRENADA TRAVEL GUIDE - WHAT TO SEE IN 1 DAY - 4K - 2023

Grenada is a Caribbean country comprising a main island, also called Grenada, and smaller surrounding islands. Dubbed the “Spice Isle,” the hilly main island is home to numerous nutmeg plantations. It’s also the site of the capital, St. George’s, whose colourful homes, Georgian buildings and early-18th-century Fort George overlook narrow Carenage Harbour. To the south is Grand Anse Beach, with resorts and bars. ― Google

Grenada Travel Video Guide

Grenada Travel Video Guide - Christopher Columbus discovered Grenada in 1498. The island was already inhabited by the Carib Indians, who had migrated from the South American mainland, killing or enslaving the peaceful Arawaks who were already inhabitants there. The Amerindians called their island Camerhogue, but Columbus renamed it Concepción. However, travelling Spanish sailors found its lush green hills so evocative of Andalusia that they rejected this name in favor of Granada.

Over the centuries, although control of the island passed from France to Britain (and briefly back to France again), the name endured with just the slightest of alterations, changing from Granada to La Grenade to Grenada.

The French were the first to settle and travel to Grenada. Legend holds that in 1652 the last of the defending Caribs rather than be ruled by the French, threw themselves into the sea from a spot that was christened Le Morne des Sauteurs, and is known today as Leapers' Hill and Carib's Leap.

Exploited first for indigo (hence the name of an area True Blue), and later for sugar production, the island prospered and, like many others in the Caribbean, attracted the attention of the British. Captured by Admiral George Rodney in 1762, near the end of the European Seven Years' War (1756-63), Grenada reverted to French rule from 1779 until 1783 when the island was restored to Britain by the Treaty of Versailles.

The inhabitants' loyalties remained divided between the two European powers for many years, as illustrated by Fedon's Rebellion of 1795. In the course of this violent episode, a group of rebels under the command of the mulatto General Julien Fedon, and inspired by the rhetoric of the French Revolution wreaked havoc on the island and its British settlers in an unsuccessful attempt to reunite with France.

Grenada Travel Guide

Grenada Travel Guide - Isn't that the place that the US invaded in the '80s? Didn't it get munched by a hurricane a few years ago? Grenada is used to bad press. But like a fighter on the ropes, it's come out swinging and has reinvented itself as the next big thing. The one big island and two small ones plonked in the sea in the southeast corner of the Caribbean are undiscovered and rarely visited.

Grenada Island is elliptically shaped and alive with a rainforested interior. Underrated beaches line the coast and sublime scuba diving is on offer just below the surface. St George's, the largest town, has one of the most picturesque waterfronts in all of the Caribbean. Stone buildings, forts from a forgotten time and houses of all colors meld into a hilly buffet of urban aesthetics. Friendly, welcoming locals go about their lives and are happy to include you in the process. Carriacou is a step back in time. With a cadence a notch or two slower then Grenada Island, this petite isle is a relaxed affair where endearing locals and an eclectic village life is added to sublime scenery. And if that sounds too busy, head over to Petit Martinique where even less happens -- and the locals like it that way.

Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique - The Spice Isles

The three island states of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique are best known for their pretty beaches and topography, arts, crafts, tropical gardens, sailing, diving, spice activities, delicious chocolate and cocoa.

Investing in Grenada - a gateway to The Grenadines and the hub for sailers from Tobago, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbados - will be an attractive option for someone looking for a slower pace of life and the desire to see an island grow in its richness of accommodation whilst connecting with the warmth of the Grenadian people.

Carriacou, Grenada

Carriacou, and Grenada in general, are inhabited with friendly people of mostly African ancestry. It is combined with the original West Indian Arawaks, and has also been peppered with lineage from Europe, various parts of the Americas (including the US), and Canada. In my opinion, the people here are a beautiful melting pot of humanity. The current estimated population is around 6,000. Grenada Vacation Travel Video Guide

Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique MapThe State of Grenada lies between Trinidad and Tobago to the south and St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the north in the Eastern Caribbean. It is the southern-most of the Windward Islands. It is 100 miles north of Venezuela, 158 miles south west of Barbados.

Grenada, St George's Port and beautiful harbour. Jean reports for Doris Visits.

Best WiFi was in the chocolate museum and cafe! Grenada is just 68 miles from St Vincent, and these islands are so close they often play together on many a cruise. Grenada deserves to be in the team. St George's is the charming capital with a population of around 30,000. We walk round the harbour, explain the local buses, meet the vendors selling shells and groceries and visit a charming chocolate museum. See cruise guides worldwide on
