Exploring Kyrgyzstan - The Last Soviet Corner in Central Asia

Nestled in the heart of Central Asia lies a hidden gem: Kyrgyzstan. This enchanting country boasts stunning mountain ranges, shimmering alpine lakes, and a rich nomadic culture that spans centuries. But what truly sets Kyrgyzstan apart is its fascinating Soviet past, which is still visible in the many relics and artifacts that dot the landscape. From grandiose Soviet-era monuments to the stark, utilitarian architecture of the city centers, Kyrgyzstan offers a unique window into a bygone era.

Me and my friend Andrew went to Kyrgyzstan for several days to explore local culture and to find hidden soviet gems.

Timecods:

Kyrgyzstan - The Amazing Country You've Never Heard Of

The beautiful Tien Shan Mountains of Kyrgyzstan, starting in Bishkek and Osh Bazaar and trekking to Chon Kemin National Park, Kegeti Gorge and Burana Tower. Kol Tor Lake and Kochkor to Konerchek Canyons and their fabulous red rocks, then hiking from Kyzart to Song Kol Lake, driving over high Tuz Ashuu Pass on the way to Tash Rabat, a 15th Century stopover on the Silk Road. From there along the Chinese Border to Kelsuu Lake, staying with a family of shepherds. Then on to the remote Kokshaal Too Mountain Range with fantastic views of Kyzyl Asker Mountain, then along the shores of Yssyk Kul Lake, before trekking to Alakul Lake and Altyn Arashan.

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.

The country of BRUNEI is one of them.

I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

Have you ever visited any countries that you didn't enjoy? Please share below, I'm curious to know.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

Discover the beauty of Kyrgyzstan - diariesof

In this video, we have put together some of the best drone shots and some of the best experiences we had while riding our motorcycle around Kyrgyzstan! In issue number #9 of diariesof magazine, we will take you on a unique (time-travel) adventure to Kyrgyzstan. The issue explores the unique nomadic traditions and games that happen in summer festivals. Come with us to meet the main actors in the surprising world of Kok-Boru, horseback archery and falconry. Join us on an expedition to Lenin Peak, one of the Kyrgyz mountains that reaches the 7,000 metres of altitude. diariesof Kyrgyzstan went in search of the typical food and found that mare’s milk is still a preference amongst locals. We spent time in yurts and rode on horseback until our buttocks hurt. And we invite you to live all this and much more with our magazine about Kyrgyzstan. Enjoy it!

You've got to love Kyrgyzstan and the Kyrgyz people! :)
