World's BEST DRUMMERS (Burundi) ????????

This is one of my favorite stories that I've ever told you!!

Welcome to BURUNDI, country #186. This East African nation is overshadowed in many ways by its neighbors of Rwanda, Tanzania, DRC and Uganda -- but there is SO MUCH life happening on these streets, nothing more impressive than their insane drumming skills!

Today, I drove 3 hours from the capital of Bujumbura to a small village called Gishora to witness the drumming culture where it all started. In fact, they claim to have invented the drum here way back in the day (made of wood and cow skin), and they are expert drummers to this day. It's a full production of dancing, singing and ... carrying drums on their heads? It's much harder than it looks!

Here is the full story, which I hope you enjoy -- I stayed up all night editing this one cuz I am so excited to share :)

This is Africa at it's finest.

While I constantly try to find the positives in every place I visit, there are a few nations that I just simply didn't enjoy.

The country of BRUNEI is one of them.

I went to Brunei back in 2014, three years before I made videos, but my negative experiences in the country have stuck in my mind ever since. That, combined with its absurd human rights laws such as stoning to death LGBT members, I felt like this video needed to be shared with the world.

Have you ever visited any countries that you didn't enjoy? Please share below, I'm curious to know.

The past few days in Antananarivo, Madagascar have been overwhelming, intense and eye-opening. And I apologize for the delays in posting these videos -- it's been nearly impossible to find decent enough wifi.

Madagascar, as a whole, is a beautiful tropical island with stunning greenery, giant baobab trees and unique wildlife (like lemurs!). It's also massive -- about twice the size of my home state of Arizona -- floating 250 miles off the southeastern part of mainland Africa.

But putting the natural beauty aside, Madagascar is one of the World's poorest countries, with the 5th lowest GDP per capita. Walking on the streets of Antananarivo, I couldn't help but observe and analyze what I was seeing --- people just barely managing to survive, working labor-intensive jobs with very little pay.

My new local friends and I took a mini road trip to some outer villages, where I learned about the daily life of people working in the markets. Here's what I discovered.

If there's any takeaway from today (and through travel in general) -- it is to appreciate the life I live. If you are reading this as well, consider yourself lucky because you have internet, which most of the people in Madagascar cannot afford.

Today I met Bernadette, who is the boss lady of the fabric business in Burundi! Her shop stood out to me among the thousands in the Bujumbura City Market because it was the busiest and best one around.

This wonderful story shares why her positive ethics have led her to be successful in her 25 years in the fabric industry, whereas many of the others fail after a few years.

Long story short, she pays her taxes and they don't.

I truly love making stories like this one, and I hope you find it inspiring!

Bernadette and myself would like to wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays to all!

Exploring Africa's Strangest Country (Djibouti)

✅ SUBSCRIBE for More Travel Videos:
???? Get My Top 100 Travel Pics FREE!

Have you ever heard of the country called DJIBOUTI? If not, don't feel embarrassed... because it's a very tiny country in the Horn of Africa that gets minimal tourism -- roughly 70,000 visitors per year.

Over the last 2 days, I have explored every facet of the capital & biggest city called Djibouti City. I find this place to be the most interesting country in Africa.

Here are some of my quick realizations:

- It's VERY EXPENSIVE -- I have spent more than $400 in the last 2 days and I haven't done much other than walk around, take a few taxis, eat 4 meals & sleep (keep in mind my visa was $90 and my hotel was $105).

- Walking around the streets feels very much like France, from the colonization period that started in 1884 and ended in 1977. The people here speak French (first), Arabic (second) and English (third, if any at all).

- There is a LOT OF SECURITY everywhere -- police/military guards standing on every corner (literally) with giant guns strapped to their backs. It is kind of crazy and very intimidating, but safe.

- About a quarter of Djibouti's population (~250,000 people) are living in extreme poverty, which is more extreme than you'd think given that this country is so expensive. A massive contrast between rich & poor.

All of my thoughts on this mysterious country, and more, are in this video. Have you ever been to Djibouti?

Burundi Explained: Geography, History, Culture, and Food

The Heart of Africa - Exploring Burundi

Burundi, nestled in East Africa's Great Rift Valley, is a small but geographically diverse country, featuring mountains, hills, plateaus, lakes, and savanna plains. It has a rich history, beginning with the Twa hunter-gatherers, followed by the Hutu and Tutsi peoples. The region was colonized by Germany, then Belgium, before gaining independence in 1962. Post-independence, Burundi faced ethnic conflicts, genocides, and political instability. Despite challenges, it has made strides towards reconciliation and stability. Burundi's population of 12.8 million consists mainly of Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups. The majority practice Christianity, with Catholicism being predominant, alongside indigenous beliefs. Kirundi and French are the official languages, with Swahili spoken in some areas. Burundi's economy relies heavily on agriculture, with coffee, cotton, and tea as main exports. Political instability and infrastructure deficits have constrained economic growth. Burundi's culture is rich in dance, music, arts, and oral heritage, with the Royal Drummers of Burundi being internationally renowned.

BURUNDI is a landlocked country located in East Africa

BURUNDI is a landlocked country located in East Africa. Here's some information about its location, economy, education, and history:

Location:
Burundi is situated in the Great Lakes region of East Africa. It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. The country has a diverse geography, with highland areas in the west and a plateau in the east.

Economy:
Burundi has a predominantly agricultural economy, with the majority of the population engaged in subsistence farming. The main crops grown include coffee, tea, maize, beans, and bananas. Agriculture accounts for a significant portion of the country's GDP and exports. In recent years, there has been some growth in the mining sector, particularly in the extraction of nickel, tin, and tungsten. However, Burundi remains one of the poorest countries in the world, with a high poverty rate and limited infrastructure development.

Education:
The education system in Burundi is based on the French system. Education is compulsory for children between the ages of 7 and 13. The system consists of primary education, which lasts for six years, followed by secondary education, which is divided into a lower cycle of four years and an upper cycle of three years. There are also vocational and technical training schools available for students who wish to pursue practical skills.

However, the education system in Burundi faces various challenges, including a lack of resources, qualified teachers, and infrastructure. Access to education is limited, particularly in rural areas, and there is a significant gender disparity in enrollment rates, with girls often having less access to education than boys.

History:
Burundi has a complex history marked by ethnic tensions and political instability. The area that is now Burundi was inhabited by various African kingdoms and chiefdoms before colonization by Germany in the late 19th century. After World War I, the region became a Belgian mandate territory under the League of Nations. Burundi gained independence in 1962.

Since independence, Burundi has experienced cycles of ethnic conflict between the Hutu and Tutsi communities, resulting in periods of violence and political instability. The country has faced several civil wars and a genocide in 1972, which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. A peace agreement in 2000 paved the way for a transitional government and subsequent elections.

While Burundi has made some progress in the post-conflict period, challenges related to political stability, human rights, and socioeconomic development remain. Efforts towards reconciliation and economic development are ongoing, but the country continues to face significant obstacles on its path to stability and prosperity.

The history of Burundi | Burundi documentary | World Of Knowledge ????

Burundi , officially the Republic of Burundi , is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley where the African Great Lakes region and East Africa converge.

It is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east and southeast, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west; Lake Tanganyika lies along its southwestern border.

The capital cities are Gitega and Bujumbura

The Twa, Hutu and Tutsi peoples have lived in Burundi for at least 500 years.

For more than 200 of those years, Burundi was an independent kingdom, until the beginning of the 20th century, when Germany colonised the region.

After the First World War and Germany's defeat, it ceded the territory to Belgium.

Both Germans and Belgians ruled Burundi and Rwanda as a European colony known as Ruanda-Urundi.

Burundi and Rwanda had never been under common rule until the time of European colonisation.

Burundi gained independence in 1962 and initially had a monarchy, but a series of assassinations, coups and a general climate of regional instability culminated in the establishment of a republic and one-party state in 1966.

Bouts of ethnic cleansing and ultimately two civil wars and genocides during the 1970s and again in the 1990s left the economy undeveloped and the population as one of the world's poorest.

The sovereign state of Burundi's political system is that of a presidential representative democratic republic based upon a multi-party state.

The President of Burundi is the head of state and head of government.
