Russian expedition to Arctic with Poseidon Expeditions during the unforgettable trip to Arctic brought us to Tikhaya Bukhta, the arctic station where polar bears are frequent visitors. Those arctic habitats are coming to the base to have so food.
Franz Josef Land is the end of the world. Almost. Tikhaya Bukhta is a Polar weather station. This is the place from where you can send a letter home. No wi-fi, no internet. Just a classical rapper letter. This is Russian Arctic National Park. Unique place, yes.

USS TRITON PARK DEDICATION 11-10-11
On Thursday, November 10, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. The Port dedicated the sail park in memory of the service men stationed on submarines.
Several submarines have been decommissioned in Bremerton and their nuclear reactor cores unloaded at the Port's barge slip for permanent storage at Hanford.
The USS Triton was the first marine vessel to circumnavigate the world under water following the course Ferdinand Magellan set in the 16th century. It carried a crew of 16 officers, 156 enlisted and 8 scientific and technical personnel. During the 84-day 141,500-mile voyage, they conducted hydrographic, oceanographic, magnetic and gravitational surveys.
The sail is the large tower-like structure located on top of a submarine. The USS Triton's sail housed the conning tower, periscope, radar and communication masts. The conning tower could be used in an emergency to operate the submarine with only three men. The 447- foot, 5,900 ton Triton submarine was built by General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut and commissioned on November 10, 1959. It is the only non-Russian submarine powered by two nuclear reactors and the last U.S. submarine to have a conning tower, a stern torpedo room and use twin screws.

Description: Danny and his partner Marianne have been visiting and studying in Ireland annually since 2015. The course will share stories about people and places they have come to know quite well. Ireland is a land where the past is never very far away, whether struggling to foster peace and reconciliation in the face of centuries of sectarian conflict or attending a pre-Christian Celtic ceremony at a Neolithic passage tomb. Simultaneously the Irish try to put “The Troubles” behind them and look to a future of social and economic justice built on shared values of honoring the land & the past and making life better for future generations
Presenters’ Background: Danny Dullea is a performance storyteller, actor and civic media filmmaker.
He recently retired from Clarkson University. During his career as instructor and Director of Creative Media for the Communication and Media Department, he taught digital video production, mass media and public speaking. Danny’s first extended trip to Ireland was actually a sabbatical to teach a practical distance learning course called Documenting Social Activism where he met and participated in events with environmental activists. Twice weekly he shared the experience live (via “Zoom”) to students back at Clarkson.

Der Fotojournalist Rolf Stang, München, nahm im Juli 2004 auf Einladung des Reiseveranstalters Ikarus Tours, Königstein im Taunus, an einer damals seltenen mehrwöchigen Expedition zum Franz-Josef-Land auf dem russischen Eisbrecher Kapitän Dranitsyn teil. Ausgangshafen war Kirkenes.
Diese 55minütige Dokumentation aus dem Jahr 2013 zeigt neben wenigen dokumentarischen Darstellungen nur Fotos von Rolf Stang, der zuvor ca. 50 Jahre lang analog fotografierte. Dieses waren seine ersten Digitalfotos mit der ersten E5000-NIKON-Kamera.

Athene is coming to pick up Børge and Thomas at Cape Flora, Franz Josef Land
In 2007, Borge and Thomas Ulrich started on an old dream; to follow in Fridtjof nansen and Hjalmar Johansens footsteps through Frans Josef land. They finally reached cape Flora in the south parts 24th of July. Here they had to wait almost three weeks, and were forced to live of the land, before the 44 feet long sailboat Athene managed to rech them and picked up the two explorers 13th of August. Sailing across the Barents sea, first to Murmansk to stamp passpoert (Franz Josef Land is russian territory), and then to North Cape, the northern most point in Norway.
REACTION MOTORS AREA R - ABANDONED ROCKET ENGINE TEST SITE IN NEW JERSEY
This week, Gene and Jeff set out to uncover the REACTION MOTORS - AREA R - TEST SITE located in New Jersey.
Reaction Motors, Inc., was one of the first companies to build liquid-propellant rocket engines in America. The rocket propulsion system was a four-chamber engine. On 16 March 1945, the United States Army Air Forces' Flight Test Division and the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) (now NASA) contracted Bell Aircraft to build three XS-1 (for Experimental, Supersonic, later X-1) aircraft to obtain flight data on conditions in the transonic speed range. WARNING: WE DO NOT ENCOURAGE OR PROMOTE ANY TRESPASSING AND/OR DEFACING PRIVATE PROPERTY!!! THIS VIDEO WAS MADE WITHOUT ANY DAMAGE TO THE PROPERTY IT WAS MADE ON!
Since we made this video we received the below information from Ken Montanye. Ken was a independent marketing consultant for Estes-Cox ( for many years and designed six model rockets. Baby Bertha, Skywriter, Deluxe Super Shot Screw Machine, Coinveerter, Screamin MiMi, and 36 D Squared.
Reaction Motors first started in a garage of James Hart Wyld in Midvale NJ. James hart Wyld (1913-1953) was originally from Pompton Lakes NJ. They incorporated in Dec 1941, there are three different dates 10, 16, 18. They set up shop under their new business name on Wanaque Ave in Pompton Lakes, in the R & M Hardware buidling (still standing today). They also had a test stand in Franklin Lakes, NJ located at 936 Dogwood Trail, there use to be a block house there until about seven years ago, it was knocked down and the porperty is vacant. Here is were the JATO (Jet Assisted Take Off) motors were tested.
From there (1941) RMI moved to the sandpit in Pompton Plains NJ (now Rt 23 and West Parkway) there is a marker there at the place of their factory and test stand area. Here is where they developed and tested the XLR-11 Bell X-1 motors. They made so much noise, they were asked to leave and moved thier testing to the NARTS (Naval Air Rocekt Test Station ) within Picatinny (former Navy Depot)
RMI had their headquarter at Elm and Stickle in Rockaway with an office on Main St in Rockaway. They erected their main headquarters at 100 Ford Road in Denville, this building still stands today. There are two plaques mounted on stones in the front of the building.
Many test stnads were in Picatinny and only two remain today. Area R is where they tested the XLR-99 X-15 engines. This area is under the control of the EPA.
Remaining test sites are area D along Snake Den Road and Area E which still stands today and where many of the XLR- X-15 motors test were conducted.
Basically, the XLR-11 Bell X-1 motors were developed in Pompton Plains and they were used in the Chuck Yeager flight breaking the sound barrier on Oct 14, 1947.
You can find a XLR-99 engine on display at the NJ Aviation Museum at the Teterboro Airport in Teterboro.

State Historical Society of Missouri (Behind the Organization)
The first episode spotlighting a state historical society and its historical marker program is Missouris! The State Historical Society dates back to 1898, and has housed and provided several volumes of history of the Show-Me State. From 1953 to 1963, there were historical markers put up in every Missouri county. All of them show different historical information about the county, county seats or notable towns/cities in that county. Most of the markers are still standing. I show you a history of that organization.
