In 1999 JustPlanes was lucky to spend a week in Libreville Gabon where GABON EXPRESS was filmed including the Hawker Siddley 748 and 10 flights in the cockpit of the SE 210 Caravelle, It holds the distinction of being the world's first jet-powered airliner to be developed for the short/medium-range market and has been out of service for around 15 years! Cockpit CARAVELLE to Oyem Gabon (1999)
20 Years ago JustPlanes was very lucky to have been invited to Gabon to film the very last Caravelle operating in scheduled passenger service. Our crew was able to take no less than 10 flights on this aircraft across the country of Gabon and was even able to film one air to air flight with some amazing memorable footage of the aircraft!
The Caravelle first flew on May 27th 1955, a total of 282 units were built and nearly 100 airlines operated them until the aircraft was retired in 2005.
Gabon Express started operated scheduled jet and prop services to various destinations in Gabon from 1998 to 2004. . At the time this program was filmed Gabon Express was the last airline in the world to operate a Caravelle in scheduled passenger service making this dvd a very unique experience.
The program also features the Hawker Sidley 748 and you will learn about both types of aircraft as you follow flights to very primitive fields in Africa. At Oyem the Caravelle must engage its reversers before landing due to the short runway!
An experience that cannot be missed is the air to air of the Caravelle over the coastline of Gabon, this is certainly one of the highlights of the World Air Routes series!

Imágenes Históricas grabadas en mayo de 1999 desde una casa del lado norte del Aeropuerto Internacional El Dorado de Bogotá Colombia, cuando aún no existía la actual Avenida José Celestino Mutis. Apreciamos las antíguas instalaciones del aeropuerto posteriormente demolidas o intervenidas. Puente Aéreo de Avianca, edificio principal, torre de control y otras estructuras. En cuanto a aeronaves vemos en carrera de despegue o carreteando varios McDonell Douglas MD-83, Boeing 767 y Fokker 50 de Avianca con su livery rojo y blanco. Boeing 727 de la desparecida Aerolínea ACES y otro de la carguera panameña Pacific; algún DASH-8 de Aires (hoy Latam Colombia) y los Douglas DC-9 de Intercontinental de Aviación INTER, también extinta aerolínea colombiana. También un Fokker 28 de la estatal Satena, algún DC3 y otras aeronaves más pequeñas, que nos gustaría que ustedes identificaran en la caja de comentarios. Al fondo estacionados alcanzamos a ver un Sud Aviation Caravelle de Líneas Aéreas Suramericanas LAS y un Boeing 727 de Aerosucre. Para los amigos del transporte terrestre también encuadramos los buses de la época, muchos de ellos ya antiguos y obsoletos de la era pre Trans Milenio, así como el aspecto de la estrecha vía que luego fue convertida en la actual Avenida Mutis. This airplane flew for the first time in 1966 and was ordered by Scandinavian airline systems (SAS) and under the 70-80-90s it flew for the swedish military and later given away in 1999 to Le caravelle club. This beatiful airplane now stands on Arlanda airport just north from Stockholm, Sweden.

Interior & Exterior of a Classic Sud SE-210 Caravelle VI-R at VNY
N98KT (cn 102) Built 1961
Recorded in 1993
This classic started out as N1017U with United Air Lines and served them from 1961 to 1970. This was the last Caravelle to fly commercially in the United States. She flew into VNY in 1978 and never flew again. Sadly, she was broken up in 2010.
