Let's visit the island of Futuna, part of the Territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands, which is a French island collectivity in the South Pacific. We are visiting the island of Futuna which is an 80 km2 (30 sq mi) island with a population of 3,225 and a maximum elevation of 500 m (1,600 ft) in the Pacific Ocean. In Futuna we are going to visit the lava pyramids created many years ago from a volcanic explosion. As the lava flowed towards the sea, after a volcanic explosion on Futuna, it cooled rapidly and formed Futuna's stunning lava pyramids.
Futuna is where Pierre Chanel was martyred in 1841, becoming Polynesia's only Catholic saint. The cathedral of Poi now stands on the site where he was martyred.
We are going to view the spectacular pyramids, formed thousands of years ago from volcanic explosions and lava flows and located on the rough eastern coast of Futuna, in the French territory of Wallis and Futuna in the Pacific Ocean.

The Tongan fort Talietumu or Kolo Nui is an archaeological site in Wallis and Futuna in the southwestern part of the Pacific Ocean.
Talietumu is situated about 9 km (5.6 mi) southwest of the capital of Mata-Utu and northeast of Halalo in the Mu'a district on Wallis Island (Uvea).
The Tongan fort Talietumu was a fortified Tongan settlement called Kolo Nui and the whole fortress is surrounded by a strong defensive wall build of basalt with several entrances.[2] Inside the fort there are a few preserved buildings and structures, lawns and the central elevated platform called Talietumu (a Marae or Mala´e, Sacred Place). The platform is of circular prolonged shape upon a circular stockade base. Raised walkways paved in stone start from the mala'e and radiate outward from within the fort.

The jungle around lake Lalolalo is inhabited by tropical birds and flying foxes which regularly fly low over the lake. The lake has a population of eels, which many conservationists have been concerned with due to the lake's inaccessibility.

We are going to visit the place (where the cathedral of Poi now stands) where Pierre Chanel was martyred in 1841 at Saint Peter Chanel Cathedral, becoming Polynesia's only Catholic saint. Saint Peter Chanel (12 July 1803 – 28 April 1841), born Pierre Louis Marie Chanel, was a Catholic priest, missionary, and martyr.
Chanel was murdered in Futuna on 28 April 1841. Chanel was declared a martyr and beatified in 1889. He was canonized on 12 June 1954 by Pope Pius XII. Chanel is recognized as the protomartyr and patron saint of Oceania. His feast day is 28 April.
