Madagascar: A Country Full Of Breathtaking Nature | Somewhere On Earth

Madagascar is one of the worlds largest islands, red from the colour of the earth, and full of tropical life. We meet Elysee a botany student with a fascination for her country’s national tree: the baobab. Soloda is a vaso, which is a group of nomadic coastal inhabitants who lives in an isolated village on the Mozambique channel. And Gil, a Frenchman has lived on the island for over 20 years, and has made his home in the foothills of the mountains working on reforesting the valley where he lives.

» THE TRADITIONAL FOOD IN MADAGASCAR

1. TSENA’NY TANTSAHA TALATAMATY: Rice Porridge + Chinese Noodle Soup
ADDRESS: Talatamaty City
OPEN: 3AM - 7AM (or whenever the police shut it down)

Four miles outside of Madagascar’s capital city, Antananarivo, lies Talatamaty City. Talatamaty City is home to one of the country’s largest local morning markets, Tsena’ny Tantsaha. Sellers open up shop at 3am, selling everything from produce to fabrics. And lucky for us, the market has no shortage of food to try as well.

????RICE PORRIDGE: Zebu (Malagasy cattle) and sausage are mixed with leaves, ginger, special Malagasy rice, porridge and spices.

????CHINESE NOODLE DISH: Pasta, macaroni, potato, mayonnaise and zebu skin.
----
2. TALATA VOLON’ONDRY: Sausage + Koba
ADDRESS: Talata Volon’ondry
OPEN: Varies

Talata Volon’ondry is a village located just outside of Antananarivo. The village is known for producing sausage and Madagascar’s national snack, koba.

????SAUSAGE: There are typically two types of sausage being sold - zebu sausage and a halal style potato sausage. This snack is frequently accompanied by local rum.

????????KOBA: Lay out banana leaf spines with banana leaves on top. Add a layer of rice flour to prevent the koba mixture from sticking to the banana leaves. Then add the koba mixture, a combination of crushed raw peanuts and sugar. Wrap it all up in the banana leaves and allow it to cook in a bit of water for 3 days.

Koba is beloved across Madagascar, primarily sold on the street or to people in their cars as they drive through a city. The fuel from the ingredients gives people energy and helps them stay full even when walking long distances without and source of food along the way.
????PRICE: Sausage .14 USD/500 MGA | Koba .50 USD/1,756 MGA

Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but currently call Vietnam home. I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer. If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. Lemurs of Madagascar HD

Lemurs are primitive primates known as pro-simians, or pre-monkeys. They live in large female-dominated family groups, in sharp contrast to most other male-dominated primate societies. Native only to the island of Madagascar, lemurs resemble the oldest ancestors of primates.

Lemurs, and most of the wildlife on Madagascar, have been isolated for tens of millions of years. In fact, 80% of the wildlife found here exists no where else on earth. When man first arrived in Madagascar about 2000 years ago from Indonesia, he hunted lemurs for food. The largest species, including one the size of a gorilla, are now extinct. Of the 53 varieties of lemurs known to exist here, we were able to film during our three week visit.

ANTANANARIVO: Madagascar Capital City Walk

Madagascar is an island nation, off the coast of southern Africa, in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. The capital city is known as Antananarivo. With a population of nearly 1.5 million residents, it suffers from many of the same endemic problems as other developing countries — namely traffic, air pollution, sanitation and crime.

Madagascar is often visited by foreign tourists, who are drawn by the natural beauty and wildlife of the magnificent Baobab trees. And the unique species of lemurs that reside here.

But few visitors will spend any time in Antananarivo, using it as an entry and exit point only. A simple wander around the streets here reveals the Malagasy people to be friendly, polite and unassuming. Their daily struggle to survive is readily apparent. As the English expression states, to understand a person you must 'walk a mile in their shoes.' So watch this video, and take a meandering walk through the crowded streets of Antananarivo. Familiarize yourself with this French influenced culture. And witness a very different way of life. #madagascar #antananarivo

Exploring the Lost World of Makay // // Allibert Trekking // Madagascar

#Madagascar #8th Continent #adventure #hiking #unknown

In November 2018, I was given the opportunity to film one of the last “lost worlds” of our planet. According to conservation experts, the Makay is one of the most monumental examples of untouched nature left on Earth. For hundreds of millions of years, life has evolved in these canyons and gorges which exists no where else. I’m proud to release this film in collaboration with Allibert Trekking .

Exploring the Andrefana Dry Forests of Madagascar | SLICE TRAVEL | FULL DOCUMENTARY

In Madagascar, three seasoned speleologists hope to discover new cavities.

They come to the terrain to verify the presence of chasms detected on satellite photos. A new technique that could revolutionise cave exploration. But in the Tsingys massif of the Ankarana, nothing is ever easy. In the stifling heat, progression is slow, as the zone is virgin and unexplored.

Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Tsingy appears as veritable limestone cathedrals, constituted by a dense network of faults, crevasses, surfaces of stone sculpted into sharp needles or blades.
