Haka Maori People

The haka is used by the Maori people as a war cry or to celebrate achievements. This was used to welcome us in their village. The Maori people has a great culture.

This is the performance that we watched while visiting New Zealand in Rotarua. It can be seen in Tepuia geothermal park. It really is worth the extra fee to watch the show.

Audience can interact with the actors and can even go upstage and do the haka. When the young stud started singing, it really caught me by surprise. I was just expecting warriors fighting, shouting and showing weapons. But the show has varieties. It is not just about the Maori haka. There are also the women that supports their warrior's at home and in battle.

It is very informative and you get to learn a lot more about their culture. For more information go to my website linked below.

Maori haka! New Zealand. Маори, Хака!

An expressive Maori Haka performed by locals!

New Zealand Maori Dancing

The Maori people of New Zealand have a proud heritage which they have shared with visitors from all around the world. For hundreds of years, they have been hosting and welcoming visitors into their homes and backyards, demonstrating their traditional dances.

The origins of the haka are deeply rooted in the mists of time. It is a history rich in folklore and legend that reflects Maori heritage. New Zealand has grown up immersed in haka since first encounters between Maori and early European explorers, missionaries and settlers.

To most people, the haka is a war dance. This is understandable as many have seen the haka performed as a pre-battle challenge to their opposition.

But the word haka simply means a dance, or a song accompanied by dance. While they are the correct terms to associate with the haka, they do not do justice to the life force, the actions, words, rhythm, themes, meaning, style or history that are the haka.

While there are many variations between the types of war dance the common feature is that they are all performed with weapons.

In pre-European and early contact times, the haka was used as a part of the formal process when two parties came together.

Impressive Haka performed at Tamaki Village, not far from Rotorua.
I wish we had a Maori club in Belgium to learn it. I'd be their first member!
I've seen this Haka 5 times on location and I can't wait to see it a 6th time.

The Haka - Maori War dance

It will give you goosebumps.
As a New Zealander I'm proud to watch it.

Maori Haka Dance

The Haka (plural is the same as singular: haka) is a traditional ancestral war cry, dance or challenge from the Māori people of New Zealand. It is a posture dance performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniment. The New Zealand rugby team's practice of performing a haka before their matches has made the dance more widely known around the world.

Maori dance, (New Zealand )

The haka (plural haka, in both Māori and English) is a traditional war cry, war dance, or challenge in Māori culture.[1] It is a posture dance performed by a group, with vigorous movements and stamping of the feet with rhythmically shouted accompaniment.[a]

War haka were originally performed by warriors before a battle, proclaiming their strength and prowess in order to intimidate the opposition, but haka are also performed to welcome distinguished guests, or to acknowledge great achievements, occasions or funerals, and kapa haka (performing arts) groups are very common in schools.[citation needed]

New Zealand sports teams' practice of performing a haka before their international matches has made the haka more widely known around the world. This tradition began with the 1888–89 New Zealand Native football team tour and has been carried on by the New Zealand rugby union team (All Blacks) since 1905.[2]

New Zealand Maori Haka - Learn how to do it

Haka World in Rotoua gives you the chance to learn how to do the haka, having fun with friends and family while you are there. Learn the history of the haka and how to do it the right way.

Haka Dance

We visited the Maori Village from Rotorua in New Zealand. After a 2 minute lesson in performing the Haka, a traditional Maori war dance, I got to show off what I learned. Then of course I just had to laugh at myself later after watching them perform the Haka with so much passion and intimidation. This place was tons of fun!
