We hiked in the rain, snow and sunshine in the three days that we were out there. The first evening was very cold, a freezing -9°C!

Our filmmaker Robert in his little interview about this video says: The Wild Coast was formerly known as the Transkei. It is one of the less developed and unspoiled coastal areas in South Africa. Getting down to the coast can be tricky since the roads are often very bad. We visited there recently because my brother is working as a doctor in the rural village of Sinangwana. He lives with his wife and daughter in a small house next to the river. While we were there I spent some time filming on my drone - it is not often that I get a chance to fly over empty beaches. I flew mostly in the early morning and late afternoon and was lucky enough to capture a pod of dolphins in the waves. So enjoy the beauty of South Africa`s coast and feel free to relax watching the waves!
The Transkei coastline is known for its stunning natural beauty and pristine beaches. The region boasts over 250 kilometers of rugged coastline along the Indian Ocean, with stretches of white sand beaches, towering cliffs, and rocky coves. The beaches in the Transkei are popular destinations for surfing, fishing, and swimming. The waters are teeming with marine life, including dolphins, whales, and various species of fish.
One of the most distinctive features of the Transkei coastline is the presence of traditional Xhosa villages and communities. Many of these villages are situated along the coastline and offer visitors a glimpse into the local culture and way of life. Visitors can interact with the local people, learn about Xhosa traditions, and even participate in cultural activities such as traditional music and dance performances.

Drone footage from 5 days backpacking on the Drakensberg escarpment, followed by a quick road trip through the tiny country of Leshoto.
Not seen here: nearly freezing to death after gale-force winds collapsed my tent on day 2. I had to plan the rest of my trip around find caves for shelter. Given how long human's have been around in this part of the world, I like to think that the same caves have probably been used as shelter since the dawn of man.

12 Hours In The Drakensberg - Views From A DJI Mavic Pro (4K)
With 2020 dealing a solid blow to any kind of travel, I took a weekend away to explore my favorite local getaway, the area of the Southern Drakensberg in South Africa. It was mostly just an excuse to fly my drone around, and get out the city for a bit - far away from any coronavirus cases.
Naturally, I decided to make a typical ambient montage showcasing the very few clips I managed to get (all in one day - inclement weather meant much less exploring than intended).
As tourism has pretty much come to a complete halt from COVID-19, the entire area was almost devoid of any other tourists - local or international. Having this vast area to myself was something I'm not exactly used to, but I hope the +-12 hours of filming window I had does a good job at showcasing it.
All filmed entirely on a DJI Mavic Pro drone in 4k at 24fps, and edited in Premiere Pro CC. Soundtrack from the free audio library on YouTube.
