Day Tours in Torres del Paine, Chile (Patagonia Expedition #09)

In the last episode of the Patagonia Expedition we show you all possible day tours in Torres del Paine including the popular full paine tour and finish with a boat excursion to the Grey Glacier

After doing the full circuit hike in Torres del Paine we stayed for 4 days more at the Hotel Las Torres to explore the other sides and viewpoints of the national park we haven’t seen yet. One of the best options to see various sights in just one day is the Full Paine tour in Torres del Paine which follows the road inside the park and takes you to some very stunning viewpoints e.g. at the Pehoe lake and the Lago Grey.

At the end of the road you can opt-in for a boat excursion on the Lago Grey to see the Grey Glacier up close. The boat trip isn’t cheap but the views to the glacier are incredible! Other great day tours are:
day hike to the base of the torres / mirador base de las torres
day hike / horseback ride to the top of Cerro Paine (aka Huella de Puma)
half day tour to Laguna Amarga & Laguna Azul
horseback ride along the Lago Nordernskjöld
day hike to Refugio Los Perros

This part of the trip was executed within 4 days and this is what we saw:
- Torres del Paine National Park
- Hotel Las Torres
- Cerro Paine
- Hosteria Pehoe
- Southern Patagonian Ice Field
- Salto Grande
- Laguna Amarga
- Laguna Azul
- Campo Hielo Sur
- Glaciar Grey / Grey Glacier
- Refugio Grey
- Hotel Lago Grey
- Lago Nordernskjöld
- Base Las Torres
- Valle Ascencio
- Lago Pehoe

It was a pleasure to share all our experiences in Patagonia in this video series. You can find all information needed to replicate our trip or parts of it on my website.

The Patagonian Expedition is a 95% self funded video documentary project following my trip in 2012/2013. Our aim is to show you the beauty of the rather unknown parts in Patagonia alongside with the famous spots.

Beside beautiful landscape you can expect loads of information and our personal experiences and struggles along the way.

Hiking Torres del Paine Circuit & W in Chile (Patagonia Expedition #08)

Our last destination is the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile where we hike the circuit including the popular W trek in 8 days - here is what happened.

For weeks we prepared physically and mentally for our trekking adventure in the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. For me it was the second time doing the full circuit trek after I did the circuit back in 2013. The Torres del Paine circuit is also called the „O“ due to the shape of the trail - it also represents the extension of the „W“ trek which is most famous hiking route in Chile.

Before heading into the park we prepared in Puerto Natales where we bought all supplies needed and planned out our trip and route. We took the early bus into the park and left all the stuff we didn’t need for the trek at the Hotel Las Torres where we were supposed to stay after the finish of the trek.

This part of the trip was executed within 8 days and this is what we saw:
- Torres del Paine National Park
- Hotel Las Torres
- Campamento Serón
- Refugio Dickson
- Southern Patagonian Ice Field
- Campamento Los Perros
- Glaciar Los Perros
- Puerto Natales
- Campo Hielo Sur
- Campamento Paso
- Glaciar Grey / Grey Glacier
- Refugio Grey
- Refugio Paine Grande
- Campamento Italiano
- Mirador Britanico & French Valley / Valle Frances
- Refugio Los Cuernos
- Refugio Chileno
- Campamento Torres (CONAF)
- Lago Nordernskjöld
- Base Las Torres
- Valle Ascencio
- Lago Pehoe
- Paso John Gardner

I'm excited to share all our experiences in Patagonia in this video series. In the next episode we will do more tours in Torres del Paine National Park and meet more impressive characters along the way.

What 10 days in TORRES DEL PAINE in Patagonia looks like & how does it work? | No W Trek!

Thinking about planning a trip to Patagonia? Here's how I spent 10 days in Torres del Paine National Park in Chile without doing the W Trek or O Circuit. We also share with you, how to get to the park, where to stay, and the operators to consider.

Splitting time between Hotel Las Torres and Chile Nativo, we got a chance to do everything from hiking Mirador Las Torres/Base of the Towers, kayak Lago Grey, go horseback riding, see pumas in the wild, hike the hidden gem Cerro Paine, and more!

Why not the W Trek? As it turns out, you can actually see a lot of what the W Trek offers by doing day trips instead of the gruelling 5 or more days. This 10 day Patagonia itinerary shows you that you actually get to see a lot more by not doing the W.

Travel Patagonia by Drone in 4k (Best of the Patagonia Expedition)

For me Patagonia is one of the most beautiful travel destinations on earth, to showcase this I created a montage of the best drone footage from my recent trip.
My Guide for Chile:
My Guide for Argentina:

EQUIPMENT USED
DJI Phantom 3 Pro
Carbon Propellers
Remote Sunshade
Extra Batteries
Charging Hub
Manfrotto Drone Backpack
Waterproof Memory Card Case
Durable HDD

Over the course of 2 months I traveled Chilean as well as Argentine Patagonia from north to south to produce a documentary series called The Patagonia Expedition together with my friend Kristin Addis. The trip started in Bariloche (Argentina) and went via the Carretera Austral (Chile) down south to El Chaltén (Argentina) and finally to Torres del Paine (Chile).

It wasn't easy to travel with all the camera gear beside the other equipment we needed, especially considering all the camping stuff (tent, sleeping bag, cooking equipment etc) but I wanted to capture the beauty of traveling through Patagonia the best way possible.

Throughout the trip we got in touch with locals, stayed longer in one spot to really get to know the place and did all kinds of tough outdoor activities. Due to my former travels I already knew most of the places, got in touch with local friends and tourism businesses to help us create these videos. Not to mention the physical preparations which enabled us do all this activities under those partially tough conditions.

We are very grateful for all those experiences, new friendships and cooperations with locals as well as park rangers!

DRONE LAWS IN PATAGONIA
Please consider that all shots were filmed considering the drone laws in Argentina and Chile at the time we filmed there. Moreover we got special permissions by park rangers in some of the locations such as National Parks or filmed on private property with the permission of the owner (e.g. Torres del Paine).

Furthermore I'd like to point out that I took several weeks of practice in training spaces in Europe to ensure safe flights in Patagonia with my drone, especially due to the harsh weather and wind conditions.

In order to protect nature and wildlife in this sensitive part of the world I highly recommend to follow these rules as well if you plan to do something similar. Please check with the local laws before you fly, don't fly in National Parks without special permission, please check the weather conditions before you fly and take your time to calibrate your drone before each flight.

DRONE & PATAGONIAN WEATHER
Consider the extreme weather conditions and come prepared with special equipment as listed above such as a good drone backpack, special propellers, waterproof housing for sd cards and a durable HDD.

FILMING LOCATIONS
Following I list all the places we visited during our Patagonia Travel:
- Bariloche & Villa La Angostura
- Chaiten
- Puyuhuapi

I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS PATAGONIA | TORRES DEL PAINE, CHILE

WE ARE IN PATAGONIA!!!

We were so excited to sail towards the Grey Glacier, until we got to the hotel and realised it's actually 125USD per person for a 3 hour trip!

Too expensive for us that are earning in Malaysian Ringgit, so we stayed at the shore, and hiked to the lookout point instead. We were glad we did that, as we managed to take a few timelapses of the panorama that were just simply epic (due to the microclimates).

Important fact:
The Grey Glacier is one of the 50 massive glaciers in the Patagonian Andes that is shrinking. It retreats by more than 450 feet annually.
Only the Perito Moreno and Pio XI glaciers in Patagonia is advancing.
