Gibraltar Airport:

Gibraltar Airport is listed as one of the most dangerous airports in the World. Not at least because of it's only 1777m long runway, but also because of the 4-lane Winston Churchill Avenue, which is crossing the runway. This is very unique.

Gibraltar's Crazy Airport - Is it Dangerous ?

Gibraltars International Airport experience
Flying with British Airways from Gibraltar back to London.

I took the time to cross the runway and visit the top of the rock and taking in some views before heading back across the active runway and checking out the airport before taking my flight home.

I hope you enjoy this look around Gibraltar airport and the flight back with British Airways.

Gibraltar Airport - Now Upgraded to 10th Most Dangerous!

It seems its more recently been designated the 10 Most Dangerous Airport - Good News For Gibraltar!

Gibraltar Airport is considered to be in the top 10 for the most dangerous airports to land or take off.

Ii's a relatively short runway with the sea at each end and on one side, to the other side is the Rock of Gibraltar and the town. The runway crosses the main road into town, so when an aircraft needs to use it the barriers come down to stop traffic and pedestrians - just like at a railway crossing!

Gibraltar Airport – The Runway With A Road Crossing

While walking across the runway at most international airports would get you arrested, it is actually encouraged at Gibraltar Airport. Here, the main road in and out of the British Overseas Territory crosses right over the runway.

Trip Report | London to Gibraltar | British Airways EuroTraveler | Flight Review | Airbus A320

Join me on this short EuroTraveller flight on board British Airways from Heathrow down to Gibraltar. I've reviewed the flight taken in May 2022 from London to Gibraltar. Let me know what you think of the review in the comments.

If you like this flight review, check out my blog articles at

Flight Details
Route: London Heathrow (LHR) to Gibraltar (GIB)
Airline: British Airways
Flight: BA429
Aircraft: Airbus A320 (G-MIDO)
Seat: 21A
Cabin Class: Euro Traveler (Economy)
Scheduled Departure: 1 May 2022 @ 7:10. Actual Departure @ 7:25
Scheduled Arrival: 1 May 2022 @ 11:05. Actual landing @ 10:45
Duration: 2:55 scheduled, 2:21 actual.

Overall the flight was pretty good for an economy service, notably because of the good pre departure lounge experience. I think the buy on board menu also helped make the flight more enjoyable and made the journey fly by as I ate my way across Spain. I would have liked to use the WiFi to stream some shows but writing this blog post was just as enjoyable. The approach and landing into Gibraltar was spectacular for those, like me, who are seated on the left hand side of the aircraft making it a must do flight for any true aviation geek. I’ll post a blog on my amazing day in Gibraltar soon but this brings us to the end of this flight review.

This trip report Video review was filmed in 4K on GoPro Hero 10.

2160p 4K HD!

Gibraltar is one of the most notorious airports in the world! Famous as being the airport with a road that crosses the runway. As well as that it’s location and proximity to the Rock of Gibraltar can create some challenging winds for aircraft. So there’s several challenges faced by pilots flying to GIB.
With that being said & with Gibraltar currently on the green list for travel I decided a trip was in order!
This is a selection of videos from various locations taken on July 5th 2021!

Aircraft included:
British Airways A320’s
EasyJet A320NEO
Eastern Airways E170
BA cityflyer E190

Both Eastern Airways & BA cityflyer are new visitors to GIB, only starting operations this year.

Gibraltar Airport Aircraft Movements

One of the top 10 most dangerous airports in the world is Gibraltar Airport according to some articles. There's some rotor winds that come from the Gibraltar rock which makes the landings very challenging in times of high winds. During this video we also had the ongoing situation that cannot be named which if you divert to Spain, the passengers are then bussed and required to enter a 14 day Quarantine but most people will be coming here for a holiday and not to do a quarantine, so you can imagine what the passengers were thinking of the Go-around. Even me I was worried when flying here as I was only going for 3 nights so a 14 day quarantine would have affected me more monetarily. This Gibraltar Airport runway has a pedestrian crossing which is really cool to walk across.
In this Gibraltar Airport video you will see the two main airlines that now fly here which is British Airways and Easyjet. The British Airways A320 Neo which has big engines. LXGB is the ICAO code for Gibraltar Airport.

Stunning arrival in Gibraltar - British Airways A320

After a great flight from London Heathrow, we arrived at Gibraltar with a great view of the Rock of Gibraltar. The hard landing was planned, due to the winds being close to the operational limits at the airport. Thankfully we did not have to divert to Malaga, as the return flight to London was a few hours later!

Gibraltar Airport Take Off and Fly Around The Rock Onboard easyJet A320neo

An incredible view of the entire territory of Gibraltar, with a complete fly around and rock as we took off from Gibraltar Airport's RWY 27. We took off facing west before turning left to go south and fly around the rock giving some unbelievable views and some you don't get to see unless in an aircraft.

Gibraltar: Runway closure during Take-Off of British Airways aircraft

The main road from Spain to Gibraltar crosses the runway of Gibraltar Airport. Like with railroad crossings there are barriers and signals which turn on if there is an incoming or outgoing flight.
