Many people come for Semuc Champey, but I particularly fell in love with the experience of visiting the Lanquin Caves, hiking to the Semuc Champey Mirador, and eating lunch with the locals. Zephyr Lodge is also an experience in itself, with beautiful dorms, deluxe dorms, private rooms, cabins, an infinity pool with the best view, and a restaurant on site there is everything you need. My opinion is this is the best place to stay when visiting Lanquin, Guatemala and Semuc Champey.

Visiting Semuc Champey Guatemala | Caving (2019) Backpacking Central America
In this episode of our Backpacking Central America Series we arrive at the famous Semuc Champey in Guatemala and a short drive from the town of Lanquin.
Semuc Champey is famous for its blue natural pools, waterfalls and caves. For those feeling brave you can jump from the top of the waterfall or even the main bridge, however this is not suggested during dry season as the water levels are low.
As part of our trip we did the caving - a 1km walk & swim though pitch black caves, holding only a candle. We loved the caving but please be careful not to slip or fall from the ladders or rope climbs.
Semuc Champey means underground river in the Myan language and there is an underground river that flows under the blue natural pools. We loved this day our and would recommend this as a day trip if you are in Guatemala.
Due to the wet day - we were only able to bring our go-pro camera and apologise if some of the audio is a little quiet due to water being in the microphones.

WE FOUND PARADISE (Semuc Champey in Guatemala)
We found paradise at Semuc Champey in Guatemala’s jungle interior.
Semuc Champey is a beautiful natural watering hole with pristine waterfalls in the middle of the Guatemalan jungle. Getting there was NOT easy (check out our last video, linked below)! BUT when we finally arrived, we found ourselves swimming in pristine turquoise waters and hiking up to an epic viewpoint.

Semuc Champey Pool & Caving in Guatemala
We stayed in the town of Lanquín, Guatemala, famous for it's stunning lush mountains and the natural pools of Semuc Champey. We also went caving in the area. It's easy to do both when you book a day trip. You can pretty easily do it yourself as well without a guide but it's a bit of a ways from the town so having transportation there and back is great, and they watch your stuff as you swim in the pools. Also it's supporting the local economy so if you're not on too tight a budget I'd suggest a guided tour.

We visited the gorgeous natural pool sof Semuc Champey, which involved us: exploring a cave with candles, swinging into water via a rope swing, cracking open a beer whilst tubing down a river and of course jumping into and swimming in the natural pools themselves... incredible.

I started off the day in the town of Lanquin where I stopped in a corner store to pick up breakfast and top up my Tigo data plan. From there I wandered through the market before catching a pickup truck for the 20-30 min drive to Semuc Champey.
Once there I checked out three different swimming pools before hiking up to a viewing platform overlooking the river.
