Today we will be travelling from Badulla to Colombo in what is sold as 'First Class', but as you'll see, it is anything but! I really wanted this trip to be great, but unfortunately these coaches are only good for one thing, and that's the scrap heap!

“Udarata menike” train is one of the most famous train in sri Lanka. This train starting from Colombo Fort railway station at 0830 am. The train daily runs between Colombo and badulla. Total travel time is approximately 10 hours. Total distance is 290 km. The “udarata menike” express train start her maiden journey on 23 april 1956.
This is most scenic and breathtaking train journey through misty mountains, cloud forest, beautiful landscapes and darkest railway tunnels.

After Sri Lanka went through such a huge tragedy last year, it was truly inspiring to experience so much positivity and hospitality from the local people. Sri Lanka Railway has first, This is the main railway station situated in the heart of Colombo. It was built in 1908. At present, the station consists of 10 platforms and over 200000 passengers travel daily. Sri Lanka Railway operates 67 Long-Distance and 16 Intercity trains and carries about 3.72 Million passengers daily. SLR owns and maintains 1561km of rail tracks, At present, it has a workforce of 17,634. Colombo to Puttalam is 133 Km. My journey is on the west part of Sri Lanka. We began our trip in Galle before driving down to Yala National Park, where we went on an unexpected safari. We then drove up to Ella, where we caught the train to Nuwara Eliya. After spending some time there, we continued north to Sigiriya, where we climbed one of the most famous rocks among travelers in the world.

Exploring Colombo Fort Railway Station in Sri Lanka
This is Colombo fort railway station which was opened in 1917. It is similar to Manchester Victoria station in the United Kingdom.
The station was built on land reclaimed from Beira Lake in Colombo. Fort station was opened by G.P. Green who was the General Manager at CGR. There are 11 tracks at Fort railway station.
