Bhutan Travel and Tourism - Paradise on Earth: A Himalayan Wonder

When I visited Bhutan I instantly fell in love with the country and its people.

Bhutan the land of Thunder Dragon, can be called the Paradise on Earth.

The Bhutanese pride themselves on a sustainable, eco-friendly approach in line with the country's popular philosophy of Gross National Happiness.

Bhutan has got amazing mountainous landscape, where snowcapped peaks rise out of primeval forests in every shade of green. Taking up prime positions in this landscape are the fantastic monasteries and incredible fortresslike dzongs. The unique Buddhist architecture embodies the traditional Buddhist culture and sets the scene for spectacular religious dance festivals. Then there are the textiles and handicrafts, outrageous archery competitions, spectacular trekking trails and stunning flora and fauna. All this sets Bhutan aside as the last remaining great Himalayan kingdom.

This video is a tribute to the country on my behalf.

Kingdom of Bhutan | Bhutan Travel | In Harmony With Nature | Himalayan Wonders

Kingdom of Bhutan
Wikipedia:
Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked state in South Asia, located at the eastern end of the Himalayas and bordered to the south, east and west by the Republic of India and to the north by the People's Republic of China. Bhutan is separated from the nearby country of Nepal to the west by the Indian state of Sikkim, and from Bangladesh to the south by the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal.
Bhutan existed as a patchwork of minor warring fiefdoms until the early 17th century, when the area was unified by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who fled religious persecution in Tibet and cultivated a separate Bhutanese identity. In the early 20th century, Bhutan came into contact with the British Empire, after which Bhutan continued strong bilateral relations with India upon its independence. In 2006, Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth-happiest in the world, based on a global survey.[9]
Bhutan's landscape ranges from subtropical plains in the south to the sub-alpine Himalayan heights in the north, with some peaks exceeding 7,000 metres (23,000 ft). The state religion is Vajrayana Buddhism, and the population of 691,141 is predominantly Buddhist, with Hinduism the second-largest religion.[10] The capital and largest city is Thimphu. In 2007, Bhutan made the transition from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy, holding its first general election. Bhutan is a member of the United Nations and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC); it hosted the sixteenth SAARC summit in April 2010. The total area of the country has been reported as 38,394 square kilometres (14,824 sq mi) since 2002.[1][2] The area had previously been reported as approximately 46,500 km2 (18,000 sq mi) in 1997.[11]

Bhutan Tourism - Happiness on Earth

Bhutan is a unique blend of the old and new. Here is a country that is slowly opening up to the modern world in a fine balance with its ancient traditions. The land of the thunder dragon kingdom is a trekker's paradise and an environmentalist's dream. With 72 percent of the country under forest cover, Bhutan's pristine ecology is home to rare and endangered flora and fauna. This spiritual land is the last bastion of the Vajrayana school of Mahayana Buddhism which provides the essence of a unique identity for the 750,000 people.

Himalayan Companion, Travel to explore Bhutan with

Bhutan with Audley Travel

A mountain kingdom closed off for years from the outside world: descriptions of Bhutan can sound like something out of Grimm’s Fairy Tales.

Our specialists Andy and Phil have just returned from a trip to Bhutan. They’ve compiled this video from their footage and photography stills. Think of it as a teaser trailer for what you could see and do on your own trip.

First, there’s the scenery. Himalaya mountainscapes lie around every corner. Then, there’s the way that spirituality is so deeply entrenched in everyday life. As seen in the video, you could visit Bhutanese monasteries, where you see monks of all ages go about their daily life and customs.
You can visit countless chortens (shrines) decked in strings of prayer flags, plus white, gold and maroon-roofed dzongs (fortresses) and palaces. You can hike up to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery, its concertina of buildings clinging, limpet-like, to a sheer rockface.

Elsewhere, as our video shows, you’ll get a glimpse of the secluded rural existence that many Bhutanese still lead. It’s a life that revolves around farming cycles and a sometimes inhospitable, if beguiling, landscape.

You’ll find more inspiration for your Bhutan trip in our guide to visiting the Himalaya.
