Bhutan (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

✱ 102 Hotels in Bhutan - Lowest Price Guarantee ►

Travel video about destination Bhutan.
The independent kingdom of Bhutan is located in Southeast Asia, most of it being two thousand metres above sea level and is situated between India in the south and Tibet in the north. Until the 1960’s Bhutan was protected from intruders due to its geographical location and was totally cut off from the outside world. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. On the northern edge of the city on the banks of the Wang River is the Pangri Zampa Temple, two impressive white buildings in the centre of a monastery. A school of astrology is located behind an unusually long prayer wall of carved stones surrounded by a forest of cypress trees. The road to Punakha travels across the Dochula Pass from the top of which more than a hundred chortens appear in the mist. A chorten is a container for religious offerings that symbolize Buddha’s consciousness in the Himalayan countries, and are therefore sacred. As quickly as it arrives, the fog vanishes, and the Druk Wangyal Ihakhang Temple suddenly appears out of nowhere. At the end of a valley, about fifteen kilometres from Paro, and located on a hill, is the once proud Drukgyal Dzong Fortress. At its foot, the beautiful village of Tsento nestling against protective rocks and surrounded by fertile fields which are brown or green according to the season of the year. Bhutan is an amazing country has retained its ancient traditions, religious secrets and cultural identity.

Sikkim and Bhutan (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Sikkim and Bhutan.
Surrounded by the world’s highest mountains is a fascinating world whose exotic charm enchants all who experience it, from the plains of West Bengal up into the Himalayas. Siliguri is a vibrant city located within India’s Terai Plain, a peaceful provincial town with calm streets and shops that once supplied the region’s tea pickers with their daily needs, has been transformed into an important crossroads for travellers to the Himalayas. Siliguri Train Station is the starting point of one of the most famous train journeys in the world, the Darjeeling Himalaya Toy Train which climbs to an altitude of more than two thousand metres, negotiates eight hundred and seventy three bends and crosses more than five hundred bridges. Sikkim is strongly associated with Tibet and possesses more than two hundred monasteries. The most holy monastery of the Nyingmapa Schools is in Tashiding and is located on a mountain in the east of the country along the route from Darjeeling. The independent kingdom of Bhutan is located in Southeast Asia, most of it being two thousand metres above sea level and is situated between India in the south and Tibet in the north. Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan. An array of prayer flags adorn a bridge in the centre of the city and close by is the large Tshonhkhang Marketplace, a colourful meeting place for both farmers and traders. For more than a thousand years Bhutan has survived in self-imposed isolation, cut off from the outside world by its own deliberate policy. Sikkim and Bhutan: two gems of history, monastic culture and religious life.

Kingdoms in the Himalayas (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Himalayas in Tibet.
Surrounded by the highest mountains in the world and an adventurer’s dream, the fascinating kingdoms of the Himalayas. Secluded and relatively untouched, and a hidden treasure of mankind, Sikkim, for centuries a segregated and independent Buddhist kingdom situated on the edge of the Himalayas, possesses more than two hundred monasteries. Just two kilometres from Pelling an impressive monastery is perched at the end of a ridge high above the Rangit River, Pemayangtse Gompa. It was founded in the seventeenth century by Lhatsun Chenpo and belongs to the Nyingmapa Order. A funeral in the Mangru Monastery: with music and prayers and the participation of the entire community. The few monks of the tiny monastery pray for the deceased and the villagers receive food and drink next to the spot where the body has been cremated. The route to Paro Dzong travels along a valley to Dungtse Lhakhang, a small temple that is shaped like a Tibetan chorten. The fortified Paro Monastery is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bhutan, a mighty fortress that once controlled the route by which the Tibetan armies repeatedly invaded. From curve to curve the Taktshang Monastery comes into view, secured within the steep rock of the world famous, Tiger's Nest. Flags flutter in the cool breeze and prayer wheels rotate at almost three thousand metres above sea level. We arrive at this holy place that is situated between Heaven and Earth and where Guru Rinpoche landed triumphantly on the back of a flying tigress. The kingdoms on the roof of the world continue to captivate and inspire along with their unique monasteries and rich monastic culture.

South East Asia Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination South East Asia.
South East Asia is a fascinating, atmospheric and exotic world full of unspoiled nature and cultural treasures and a region in which both past and present live side by side and unite in a wonderful way. Myanmar, The Land Of Golden Pagodas: for decades the rulers of what was once known as Burma closed the country’s doors to the outside world and many of its fine religious sanctuaries were badly neglected but they have now gradually been given the respect that they deserve. Inlay Lake is home to the Inthas, one of the many tribes that came to Myanmar from various of South East Asia’s neighbouring countries. Throughout the area are the floating plantations of the Inthas on which tomatoes, cucumbers and beans are cultivated. A journey on the Shan State Express provides passengers with a fascinating insight into the life of the Shan people whose lives are dominated by agriculture. The north west of Myanmar is known for its many splendid sacred buildings such as Mingun’s Hsinbyume Pagoda that was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It was constructed according to the architectural rules of Hindu Buddhist cosmology and symbolizes the World Mountain of Meru.. One of Taiwan’s most important centres of arts and crafts is located in the west of the island, Lukang, an ancient and idyllic town full of age-old traditions whose large number of beautiful temples is most impressive. In Cambodia and around forty kilometres north of Phnom Penh is the former capital city of Udong. Today only the remains of the city’s former splendid buildings indicate that it was the last centre of Angkor’s power with hundreds of dwellings and temples. The ruins of Ayutthaya indicate the impressive dimensions of the former capital of ancient Thailand and one of the mightiest royal cities in South East Asia.

Tibet Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Tibet.
Tibet is a relatively little known and mysterious land of snow high up in the Himalayas that borders Nepal, Bhutan ad India. It is protected by the highest mountains in the world and is a region that has developed a unique society whose philosophy, art and religious faith have earned much interest and respect.Lhasa is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city. The Barkhor Road extends for eight hundred metres around the Jokhang Temple and nearby Tsuklakhang Square. For the faithful a visit to the Jokhang Temple is the highlight of a long and arduous pilgrimage and the Dalai Lama once sat in its inner courtyard during the monks’ annual final examination, which was also a splendid festive event. On the other side of the Chakpori, a small mountain opposite Potala, is the seldom visited Sang Gya Thong Ku Temple that is somewhat hidden away and therefore off the tourist trail. This ‘temple of a thousand images of god’ is nevertheless very popular among devout Buddhists and is a place of silent prayer. The Yarlung Valley is full of history such as possessing the oldest field in Tibet, as well as the oldest village that is located at the foot of the country’s oldest fortress, Yom Bu La Khang, the rock palace of the country’s first mystic king. One of the largest monuments in Tibetan architecture is the unique Kumbum Chörten, a three-dimensional mandala that can be entered. Eyes decorate the upper part of the Stupa. The ritual walkabout begins on the lowest level with simple deities then follows the entire Pantheon of Tibet, immortalised in both sculptures and wall paintings. Despite Chinese influence, Tibet is still a religiously devout country with a fascinating monastery culture and amazing natural scenery. Tashi Delek! Happiness and Blessings! On the “roof of the world” one is always close to the gods…!...

India (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination India.
India is a subcontinent with a long history, a land of legend, fantasy and reality.A country that extends from the Himalayas in the north to the semi-desert terrain and tropics of the south. A place of incredible contrasts and fascinating splendour. Delhi is the political and administrative capital of India and a melting pot of both culture and religion. A constantly expanding metropolis built on the site of twelve former cities and centre of power for almost a thousand years. Jama Masjid, the Friday Mosque, is one of ancient Delhi’s main landmarks that was bequeathed to the city by the mogul king, Shah Jahan and close to the mosque is the bazaar district of Chandni Chowk, a busy commercial area. The white temples of Ranakpur are the sanctuaries of the Jains and are situated in a picturesque valley to the west of the Aravalli Mountains north of Udaipur. At around the same time that Buddhism was introduced to the area, Jainism also arrived, the religion of the country’s great hero, Mahavira. Rajasthan is the Land Of The Maharajas in all its splendour, a living fairytale beneath the desert sky. Agra was once the imposing metropolis of the mogul monarchy and today the city has lost nothing of its mediaeval atmosphere. Calcutta, or Kolkata, as it has been known since 2001, is the capital of West Bengal and also the second largest city in India. A city of contrasts that could not be more striking. Each morning hundreds of people go to the Howrah Bridge to bathe on the banks of the Hooghly River, a tributary of the sacred River Ganges. In 1853 Bombay had its first railroad and the Indian rail network was soon extended. The Victoria Terminus was built, one of the most impressive train stations in the world. Incredible India, a remarkable country that has always fascinated travellers by the amazing diversity of its people, culture and landscapes.

Brunei (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

✱ 7 Hotels in Brunei - Lowest Price Guarantee ►

Travel video about destination Brunei.
Brunei Darussalam is a tiny sultanate in the north of the island of Borneo located on the shores of the South China Sea and is surrounded by the Malayan federal states of Sabah and Sarawak. The capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, is like something from an exotic fantasy.

The splendour of the mosque of Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudin is a captivating sight. This Islamic landmark is also a symbol of great wealth and was built in 1958 and was named after the father of the present sultan. Snow white Italian Carrara marble was used as building material, with granite from Shanghai. It commemorates the founder of modern Brunei.

On a classic longboat powered by outboard motor, we travel on the Brunei River and are soon surrounded by mangrove brush. Tropical thunderstorms and monsoon rain create dense vegetation and the ensuing humidity produces lush flora.

At the junction of two muddy-grey waterways of the Brunei River is an historic location, Kampung Ayer, a water village. Each building and adjoining pathway is built on posts yet there is both an electricity and drinking water supply. Plants decorate the terraces, and TV aerials are everywhere and it has a population of around thirty thousand.

Brunei is a land that has almost lost its history while moving into modern times. It is a country that has grown amazingly wealthy since its gas has hissed and its oil has spluttered from deep below the ground. Liquid gold - Allah be praised!

Uzbekistan (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan is a country with thousands of years of history and contains all the magic of the Silk Road, as well as numerous oriental fairy tales, along with traditional culture, Islamic history and fascinating desert landscapes. Tashkent is the city of Amir Timur, the riding general who established a dynasty. It is a city on the ancient Silk Road, famous in both orient and occident, and having inspired both scholars and poets, plus craftsmen and artists. Modern Tashkent contains wide boulevards and plenty of lush greenery. White storks that symbolize fertility crown the large entrance arcades to the Place Of Independence. Samarqand was the centre of one of the oldest forms of state in Middle Asia, and was located on the Silk Road. Newly introduced Timurid style further enriched the architecture. Coloured mosaics of astounding luminosity compete with glazed relief ceramics whose ornamentation is composed of arabesques, font characters and geometrical shapes. Samarqand Bazaar now has a new, modern appearance and the variety of goods on offer has never been better with fresh fruit, vegetables, honey and cheese. The ‘Wild West’ of Uzbekistan is a wonderful region of deserts with just a few yurt camps for overnight accommodation. Qirk Qiz Qala emerges from the middle of the flat, featureless desert. Almost mystically, the final sharp fragments of the castle’s former defensive towers emerge from the ground which consist mainly of gravel and are covered with low saxaul bushes that defy the desert’s strong winds with their deep-reaching roots. The oasis city of Khiva is one of the greatest centres of ancient Korezm, ‘Land of the sun’, and was where mathematician Mohammed, who discovered algebra, once lived. Almost fifteen hundred years of oriental culture are hidden within the intriguing winding streets of this fine oasis city. Uzbekistan has always been at the intersection of major trade and cultural routes and a border between Asia and Europe, between nomads and the Western world. Exoticism mixed with all the magic of the One Thousand And One Nights!

Nepal Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Nepal.
At the foot of the huge peaks of the Himalayas is Pokhara and it is from here that we begin our journey through Nepal. In the past, Pokhara was an important trading link between India and Tibet but the trading of salt and wool came to an end after Tibet closed its doors to the outside world.Kathmandu is a melting pot of both race and religion, a metropolis in the heart of the Kingdom of Nepal, a country of snow-covered mountains inhabited by the gods. Kumari Chowk is the residence of the living goddess, Kumari, who is duly selected from childhood. She is not allowed to leave until puberty as her task is it affirm the king his power. Traditional ceremonies are celebrated throughout the year such as the Festival Of The Children that is a symbol of fertility and sexual purity. Patan is Nepal’s second largest city and has retained much of its original character due to its three hundred monasteries and temples. It is also one of the oldest settlements in Kathmandu Valley and during the 15th century was the capital of one of three kingdoms. Bhaktapur is the third ancient regal city of the thirty kilometre long Kathmandu Valley that has always been a prosperous trading route between China, Tibet and India. Through the golden gate of Sundhoka is the old royal palace complex. The Torana above the gate is richly gilded and features the ten-armed goddess, Taleju, and her loyal guards. Located on a 1,400 metre high hill, Swayanbunath is a Buddhist monastery complex and one of the most interesting sights in Nepal. The country’s oldest stupa dates back to the 5th century and is entered from an easterly direction up a staircase that contains three hundred and sixty-five steps. Endless rows of prayer mills and religious images are the instruments of the people’s deep faith. Hidden in a canyon and located on top of a mountain creek, Dakshinkali stands guard over the valley. This wonderful place is dedicated to the bloody goddess, Kali. The customs of the people in the ‘Kingdom On The Roof Of The World’ may seem somewhat strange. But this land of jungle and eternal snow has developed according to its own rich traditions and beliefs. Like magic!

What is BHUTAN? Inside Asia's Hidden Country

Have you ever heard of BHUTAN? It's a tiny country of 800,000 people, sandwiched between India and China in the Himalayan mountains.

I arrived here in Bhutan just 2 days ago, and it has REALLY fascinated me in terms of cleanliness, friendliness and natural beauty.

Bhutan is unique. Bhutan is innovative. Bhutan takes great measures to protect their cultural identity and natural environment, which consists of 72% forest.

There are many other things that Bhutan does, which puts them in another league when compared to the rest of the world.

BHUTAN IS THE WORLD'S ONLY COUNTRY WHO:
- has banned the sale and consumption of tobacco
- absorbs more CO2 than it gives out, making them 'carbon negative'
- largest export is renewable energy
- measures their country's prosperity by happiness, not wealth
- can sentence you to life in prison for killing an endangered animal

Protecting their environment has had a positive correlation with the happiness of its people -- Bhutan consistently ranks as the happiest country in Asia and top 10 in the world overall. Maybe the rest of the world should take Bhutan's lead?

In this video, I did my best to sum up Bhutan in less than 4 minutes. This will be the first of 5 (possibly 6) videos on the country. Stay tuned to learn more!

Mekong (Asia) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination Mekong in South East Asia.
Even though the Mekong originates in the Tibetan Highlands and flows through China, its true source lies within South East Asia, in Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, fascinating countries whose inhabitants can look back proudly on both a colourful and glorious past. Around thirty five kilometres from the capital of Pnohm Penh the jungle temple of Ta Prohm is a unique combination of both nature and culture. Colossal feigen, banyan and kapok trees cover the splendid temple site and their huge roots intermingle with the ruins and thus give the sanctuary a magical atmosphere. Most of the country’s traditional dances date back to the Angkor Period. The dancers of the classical and extremely complex Apsara dance once enjoyed great respect and were given the status of divine beings and they were considered to be mediators between Heaven and Earth. For many centuries the Tonle Sap, the largest fresh water lake in South East Asia, was a vital source of water for around ten per cent of Cambodia’s population. It is also of great importance for wildlife. Innumerable villages and houseboats fill the Tonle Sap with life. Furthermore, the extraordinary biodiversity of the indigenous bird population is truly remarkable. The lake, and particularly the bird reserve at Prek Toal, are a true paradise for ornithologists. Over four hundred Buddhist temples are to be found in Bangkok. One of the most important is the magnificently designed Wat Phra Kaeo that, in addition to many other valuable treasures, also contains the Emerald Buddha. Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is an exceptionally beautiful city with many lakes and parks. Despite its three and a half million inhabitants Hanoi is a relatively easy-going city. It boasts an amazing number of beautiful and historic monuments. The Mekong is a unique habitat that comprises some of the most impressive countries in South East Asia, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, countries whose fascinating cultures are both historic and enchantingly exotic.
