Espiritu Santo (commonly called Santo) is the largest island in Vanuatu. There are far fewer visitors here than you will find in Efate, and there is a much more local community feel.
Here I will show you five awesome places to visit in Espiritu Santo including:

It is possible to visit all 5 destinations in just one day, however, I highly recommend spending a few nights on Santo. There are some great guesthouses in the main city Luganville, and some super laid back bungalows further up the coast like Lonnoc Beach Bungalows.

A tropical setting on 6 acres with 150 metres of absolute waterfront lawns and gardens, for Luganville`s only true beach side resort located just 2 kms from town and only 15 minutes from the international airport. Far enough out from town to avoid the noise but close enough for that early business appointment, adventure trip or scuba dive.
Beachfront Resort offers excellent accommodation over-looking the sheltered waters of Segond Channel and Aore Island.
Our fully licensed restaurant, The Coolidge Bar & Grill, provides first-class food from both our regular and black board menus plus a selection of cold beers and wines all enjoyed in relaxed Melanesian style surroundings overlooking the swimming pool, lawns and ocean.
We also make the best pizzas in town - eat in or take away.
Our front desk is open 24 hours for our guests.
All our bungalows are self-contained, air conditioned and include ceiling fans, ensuite, refrigerator, kitchenette, mini bar, insect screens plus toaster and tea/coffee making facilities.
Our Lodge is available for the budget conscious traveler or groups visiting our tropical paradise.
A continental breakfast, served in our open nakamal or around the pool, is included with all our tariffs.
All rooms are serviced daily and we have plenty of secure off street parking.
Activities include adventure tours to custom villages, ride a horse along a tropical beach, scuba dive on the world's most accessible ship wreck, the SS President Coolidge, snorkel our pristine reefs or an aquatic American WW2 equipment grave site, trek through exotic jungle, hire a car and experience the island, putter around on a scooter, visit coconut plantations and blue holes, paddle a dugout canoe down a pristine river, visit WW2 wrecks, paddle a kayak to another island and explore, trek through a cave and float down a river, grab a rod and catch a big fish, take a scenic flight in a sea plane, lay back and enjoy a champagne sunset cruise around the islands or laze by the pool soaking up some rays the atmosphere.
The latest attraction is our range of two person Zego boats, twin hull for fun and stability and fitted with 30 hp outboards, these craft are great for a high speed spin around Segond Chanel or explore the rivers and coastline.
Our ADSL wifi has coverage in most areas of the resort allowing easy access to your email and for keeping up-to-date with the internet and Facebook. Enjoy a local Tanna cappuccino or laté or a cold drink whilst on line in our open nakamal with plenty of power outlets to save those precious batteries.
In an effort to reduce our carbon footprint and save costs we’ve installed a range of energy saving devices from low wattage lamps, solar hot water heaters to also recommending our local Tusker beer as the bottles are reused by the brewery and not buried. We also recycle aluminium cans †not an easy task on a small south pacific island. See the environmental page for more details.
In our restaurant we use as much locally grown, totally organic, produce as possible including Santo’s famous organic beef and seafood thus supporting Ni-Vanuatu fishermen, farmers and families and reducing our need for imported goods.
The final stages have been made to the islands hydro power generation scheme, on the Sarakata River, which now generates 70% of the towns electricity needs.

Barrier Beach Resort is an adults-only luxury boutique resort. My beach front suite with a plunge pool was decorated beautifully and was very spacious! I loved the wooden walkways and the ambience of the property. Calvin and Julie are gracious hosts and helped us plan amazing outings along the Champagne Coast of Espiritu Santo. We ate many meals at the onsite restaurant which were phenomenal! I also stayed in a garden villa with a plunge pool and loved the feeling of being in the jungle. It felt like I was on my own very private estate! I loved the musical evening with the Bamboo Band, The Water Ladies of Vanuatu and the String Band.
