To Find the Best Climate in Panama: Head for the Hills
Posted on August 27, 2010 by Jessica Ramesch

Boquete has a perfect climate
I'm often asked by IL readers where you'd find the best climate in Panama. Though I'm a city girl through and through, I've often wished Panama City had been situated in the highlands.

Here, perfect temperatures in the 70s° F make life easy and brisk. But alas, to enjoy the delights of the most modern city in the region, you must satisfy yourself with the sultry city heat. I'm well accustomed to it, but I also look forward to and enjoy immensely my trips to the highlands. For this is, without a doubt, where you'll find the best climate in Panama.

Though there are many highland towns worth mentioning and wandering through, three in particular have become popular expat destinations:

Boquete: Number one best climate in Panama

Boquete, located in the province of Chiriqui, has often been called one of the best retirement destinations in the world, primarily because it offers Panama's best climate.

In fact, AARP The Magazine just named it, once again, one of the top three places to retire in the world (and the number one place to retire in the Americas). An excellent infrastructure and growing expat numbers have literally put Boquete on the map.

First-time expats are drawn in by the community, which is active and provides a supply of English-speaking friends for those who are still struggling with their español.

Boquete's location offers more than a year-round spring-like climate, though. The town is close to the provincial capital of David and the province's pristine beaches. A domestic airport in David offers quick and easy flights to Panama City. Fancy a visit to the Caribbean islands of Bocas del Toro? They're just a few hours away. But Boquete offers so much fun, you may not want to leave. There's always something going on and outdoor activities are abundant...from horseback riding to rafting.

Best Places to Retire in Panama

Jessica Ramesch shares the best places to retire in Panama.

Some of the best retirement destinations in Panama also happen to be among the most beautiful places in the country. A happy convergence of natural beauty, convenience, low cost of living, and more makes these towns ideal for the would-be expat…of any age. Whether you’re looking to retire from your current job and “do nothing” or you just want to make a change, these locations are worth checking out.

Benefits of retiring in Panama.

I found a list of some of the benefits to retiring in Panama. I believe there are even more than is listed here, so you may still want to do some searching around.

50% off entertainment including movies, concerts, theater etc. (a regular movie ticket costs $4 - the retiree price is $2.)
• 25% off restaurants
• 50% off hotel accommodations from Monday-Thursday
• 30% off bus, boat and train fares
• 25% off domestic and international airline tickets
• 10% off prescription medicines (much cheaper than US prices to begin with)
• 15% off dental and eye exams
• 50% off closing costs for home loans

But beware of the many blogs who paint Panama as a perfect trouble free place to live. Like any country it has it's pros and cons. A few months ago some people walked out of the jungle piled up rocks and sticks and caused millions of dollars of damage to Panama's economy. They kept some people hostage for weeks behind road blocks. Come and spend a lot of time visiting before you decide to make the plunge.

Boquete is consistently listed in the top 5 places for North Americans to retire. I'm not quiet sure yet, but I'll probably end up living there full time one day.

Well, I am back from my trip to Panama. Here is my review of Retire In Panama Tours

I had the opportunity to experience the unique and unforgettable Retire in Panama Tours and I was blown away by the level of expertise and professionalism provided by the team. They showed me the ins and outs of what it's like to live in Panama, including all the wonderful benefits this country has to offer for retirees.

One of the highlights of my tour was visiting the thriving metropolis of Panama City, where I was able to witness the beauty and cosmopolitan culture of this city. The tour also took me to the tropical paradise of Bocas del Toro, where I was able to soak in the sun and relax on the beaches.

But the adventure didn't stop there. I was able to visit some of the best retirement communities in Panama, where I saw first-hand how retirees are living the good life. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and were able to answer all my questions, making the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Overall, I highly recommend Retire in Panama Tours for anyone looking to experience the best retirement adventure. Whether you are looking to retire soon or just curious about the country, this tour company has everything you need to make your dream a reality.
