The Comoros. Everyday life in a small village. Traditional comorean beauty mask and marriage dress.

#Comores #TravelDocumentary

After long walk all over the vanilla and ylang ylang plantation we came to the small village Paje to learn about simple everyday life in the Comoros islands. We helped Maketses brother to replace a roof with some palm leaves. Tali tried traditional sandalwood beauty mask, which helps to protect the skin from the sun in East Africa. We visited a very famous tailor to dress up with a traditional marriage dress.

About Comoros
Welcome to the captivating world of Comoros, an archipelago that glistens like scattered pearls in the Indian Ocean. Situated off the east coast of Africa, this enchanting nation holds a unique place in history and geography. Comoros, composed of four main islands and numerous islets, is strategically located along maritime routes that have fostered cultural exchanges and trade for centuries.
Comoros' importance extends beyond its geographical location. Rich in biodiversity and boasting stunning landscapes, it is often referred to as the Perfume Islands due to its fragrant spice exports. The nation's coral reefs and pristine beaches offer a haven for nature enthusiasts and travelers seeking untouched beauty.
Reputationally, Comoros carries an air of mystique, with its blend of African, Arab, and French influences lending it a distinct cultural identity. However, challenges such as political instability and economic hurdles have garnered international attention. As we delve into Comoros' history, geography, people, intriguing facts, and economic endeavors, we unravel a nation that stands as a testament to both its timeless allure and its aspirations for a brighter future.

The History of Comoros
The history of Comoros is a narrative woven with the threads of ancient civilizations, maritime trade, cultural exchange, and colonial legacies. Indigenous communities, influenced by Arab and Persian traders, established vibrant societies across the islands. These communities laid the foundation for the Comorian culture, blending Swahili, African, and Islamic elements.
European explorers, drawn by the Indian Ocean's allure, arrived in the 16th century, bringing with them waves of European influence. The islands became a crossroads for traders from Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, enriching Comoros' cultural tapestry. Over time, various European powers vied for control, and the islands saw shifts in colonial rule between the French and the Portuguese.
Comoros' path to independence was marked by political and social transformations. In 1975, the nation gained independence from French rule, but its history since then has been characterized by periods of political instability, coup d'états, and power struggles. Despite these challenges, the Comorian people's resilience shines through, as they continue to shape their nation's history and strive for stability and progress in the face of both historical legacies and modern complexities.

Anjouan, Comoros

March 21, 2019. Short flight from Moroni, Grande Comore to Anjouan, Comoros with AB Aviation. The highlight of the trip was to find yilang-yilang tree that produces incredible aromatic flower the essential oil of it which used in French perfumes, famously Chanel. It smells damn good, and you can identify Chanel smell from it.

comoros

a rather disappointing adventure to the Comoros Islands

comoros

A holiday with a difference. Supposed to be a three island vacation, but as the islands only large aircraft went in for service, the only option was a ferry that only joined two of the islands. Poor infrastructure and hotels without water in the pools, etc

Comoros Islands - Some pictures from my mission

A video clip made out of pics I took during my mission in the Comoros Islands for the Voter Registration. Was there when France took over the administrative power of Mayotte Island...

Chissioua Ouenefou in Moheli, Comoros

Explore the varied ecosystem of Chissioua Ouenefou, whose coastal and underwater areas burst with numerous plant and animal species, as well as interesting geological formations created by volcanic eruptions. Taking a relaxed hike around the island offers the chance to observe palm trees and baobabs, as well as many of the regionally important resident birds, namely the masked booby. If you opt to go diving, one of the most popular activities here, you can see dugongs, dolphins, and manta rays, as well as the coral reef, which is the hawksbill turtle's natural feeding habitat. If you’re interested in history, check out the site of a leper colony from the 19th century. Plan a Moheli trip in moments using our itinerary builder.

LAST DAY IN THE COMOROS - VLOG #23

Our last day in The Comoros in southern Africa, we just took the drone for a flight but had to land quickly as it got overheated. Then we collected some volcanic rocks and I got food poisoning on the way home. Not the best way to finish but man, it was a good trip!

Thanks to IKEA Foundation and UNICEF for taking care of us and doing a great job for those in need!

Vacation in Comoros

Some footage from my vacation in Moroni, Comoros.

GRANDE COMORE. COMOROS

Comoros islands. Grande Comore. March 30, 2019. Southern part of the island Grande Comore.

Thank you Comoros and wish you the best of luck and hope not another coup. I wish you can get Mayotte back from France but most likely not. Now it is up to Mayotte if they really want to join your Union but with political instability in your country and over 20 coups since independence in 1975, I am doubt Mayotte wants to be part of the Union. But best of luck. And please, separate religion from the government. It does not do you well at all. Instead of progressing you are going backwards.

A Tourists Guide to Moroni, Comoros!

I fly into Moroni, the capital of the Comoros. Unlike the Seychelles, Maldives and Mauritius, this Indian Ocean nation sees very little tourism and is one of the poorest countries on Earth.

I stay in the lush surroundings of the Istandra Beach Hotel, but take a tour of the Island's sights, including the old capital, Iconi, a wander through the markets of Moroni, and stop by a beach to watch some fishermen out in the surf. A most memorable trip.
